Keener could cure the virus and become a hero. I think he wants to completely destroy The Division’s reputation in the eyes of the people first. Rick Valassi was a huge help in that with his conspiracy theory about the division and their hidden agenda.

Other than that the fact that he has Vitaly means that it's safer for the whole world, he doesn't have a view to destroy humanity, and anyways it's a win-win for both the world and him, the world doesn't try to look for him in a wide scale way due to fear of being destroyed and we get the assurance that someone insane is going to try to wipe out humanity, he is also probably better at dodging these insane people's attempts than the division since the division is rooted, and like keener says some people can be bribed even when they are in the division.

I don't think it's the Division he wants to destroy, he doesn't hate the player. But as we see with Division 2, there was a much greater plot taking place before the fabled Black Friday that would start it all. The Illuminati, or whatever they call themselves, set up a global collapse in the hope of establishing a new Dominance of Power via The Black Tusk.

@@FatalFist Keener knew about the Black Tusk and was preparing for war with em before you killed him. He probably knew of Faye's betrayal as well. Keener knows that you ie the player will go rogue to stop and eventually destroy the Division, Black Tusk, The Founders, etc. Why because the Division can't and was likely created by the latter two I named. Shame Ubisoft just offed him dude had Bane or Legate Lancuis potential.

They can maybe do a pve and pvp battlegrounds like a button on the main menu pve is for if you want to play just the story and mess around the city and pvp could just be a city wide fight between division and Keener side along with some random npc factions here and there and it could work as some sort of free roam yet objective based mide were you have to capture stratgic positions and if one side wins the ones on that side will get big boy loot and the losers get loot for effort and then it just resets. No time limit ans maybe make it 30 vs 30 or something like that

I don’t think the SHD knows about Keeners audio drops in NY. I think we kept them to ourselves when we found them. They were a personal message for us and his words incriminate us. We may have done good things in New York, but we did a helluva lot of bad shit too. So much so that I don’t think we’re completely dedicated to the division. If we were presented the opportunity to cut ties with the government and join Keener in game, I honestly don’t know which way I’d swing. That’s why I don’t like that your character doesn’t carry over. It misses out on that personal touch. I still have my experiences from NY. It feels like I’ve just bodysnatched another agent, instead of starting a new story with a new agent. It really messes up my immersion and investment in the story. But, to answer your question: honestly? I don’t even think Keener knows what he’s planning to do next. Listen to him. He may try to convey that he’s in control, but it sounds to me like he’s floundering. It’s almost as if his dead drops are his way of reaching out and asking us what to do.

All this time he's been putting on a front to hide the fact that he is broken inside, knowing that the nation he fought to protect was taken down by it's weak infrastructure and not some terrorist organisation. The whole going rogue thing is just to try and get more people on his side to give him validation that what he's doing isn't wrong. Overall I just see Aaron Keener as a liar. Someone who's lonely and looking for a purpose in a society without purpose.

So true. Halfway through the recording from TD2 I could notice subtle hints that he's beginning to waver. As he said, it's hard to be one step ahead always. And he actually may have never left NY: as @Anthony Drakeford pointed out, he could have bunker down in the DZ and made us run in circles for months!

I seriously wish there was an option to 'go rogue'. Maybe an alternate storyline...alternate mission setups (i.e. Facing off against AI division agents/civilian militia when retaking the Bank Headquarters or Lincoln Memorial) maybe even taking over the settlements or outposts owned by the civilian militia. Keener was a fantastic villain, smart and sophisticated while being undeniably ruthless. His offers to join up with him in his records always made me go 'FUCK YES, Where do I sign up?' but alas...no option to. I wish they'd add that in. The option to break bad in these games would be awesome outside the Dark Zone.

Imagine they made a division game where you choose to be rouge or play as a rouge agent for the full game. For example your a few hours into the game, working with JTF or whoever the new heroes of the city are and you and story characters have found Keeners location, you go there and he’s there waiting for you with a team of rouge agents. Good against bad and Keener starts telling you what the division did and what he’s experienced, showing you that no one cares about the things you do or who you are and shows proof of this like his time in the DZ with those survivors and so there’s a choice at that moment. Keener says “join me in my quest to save the world, I’m giving you a chance bc I know what your capable of, we need you” and so it presents you with two choices, join Keener and go rouge and aid him and that’s a new path to a bunch of new story missions and a new outlook on what the rouge agents are doing. New choices can be made, new areas to explore and maybe even recruit more agents to keeners cause that would be an amazing game

The subtle contradictions in what Keener is trying to tell us: He is upset about how the Division abandoned people. I think Keener was broken long before the DZ debacle. One slip of adversity, one loss and he became unhinged. He’s like the kid that knocks all the pieces off a board game when his opponent is clearly going to win. His backstory says he was a Fobbit in the military- so generally speaking he probably didn’t see much combat. Mortar attacks (those can be pretty bad), maybe car bombs as terrorists try to blow up the gate... I don’t know if he was ever on guard duty... but he was likely never ambushed, never assaulted an objective, never had to pull a fallen friend out of the line of fire... and so, never had to really, seriously face that kind of pressure and being raised in a life of privilege and probably never having to really struggle and probably was rewarded no matter what the outcome of his efforts... Aaron Keener was incapable of dealing with the massive problems this Dollar Flu outbreak caused. So, faced with “losing the game”, he decided to wipe the pieces off the board. Coupled with what certainly looks like Narcissistic Personality Disorder... I can see how Aaron Keener is behaving as he is. He’s unchecked. Green Poison has released every tether that would have forced him to mind what he does... if the world wasn’t largely killed off he would have already been found, arrested, and be serving a prison sentence but as it is, Keener has free run of the world he can influence.

Oh, I can’t say I wouldn’t break, I’ve never been stuck with the sort of things the Dollar Flu caused and hope nobody ever has to in real life- it’s best to be left to video games. But Keener’s a narcissist and who knows... maybe he was planning all this all along? We only have what he tells us, who’s to say he’s telling the truth about his motives or about when he decided to go rogue? I hope we find out for sure at some point, but in my mind Keener was predisposed to come unhinged as he has.

I got Division 1 at a midnight release and i played it damn near continuously for 2 weeks(Best PTO I ever used from work) I paid close attention to every bit of lore I got my hands on and I made sure to find every bit there was. I knew during the Echo of him not being able to help that family that he was snapped. He went from personal failure,to. To indignation to vengeful and opportunistic. I believe his only real agenda is to watch the world burn and have some fun along the way. The guy is The Riddler if he was trained by the special forces.

It's set in modern times, not the millennia in the future or past and in another world or universe. It's right here right now and I'm places I'm familiar with so well to.me because I'm in America and I've lived in New York. I've skated in a few of those parking garages and walked down those streets and alleys. I'm less familiar with DC but I've been to more than a few of those people places like rhe Lincoln memorial and Washington monument and the capitol building. It's so surreal. I'd love to see a series of novels written about Everything that's happened in nee York from the day Amhearst left those contaminated bills in the jewelry store alll the way up to the agent tracking Keener to his last known ping inside that apartment. Then move on to DC. It be great. I just don't know about movie. Movies based on some of my favorite stories and games haven't fared well. R.I.P. The Dark Tower Series. And The Witcher.

I feel like they could've done more Keener, like have him as a boss fight halfway through the first game and after you beat his ass, he hits you with a shock bullet and escapes in a helicopter. After realizing your fighting prowess does he then try to recruit you, and not in a "join me, peasant" kind of way either, but almost like a bromance. Sort of like a Batman/Joker thing. It'd definitely be more engaging in the bigger picture.

What I love about the division is it makes you question your own beliefs and makes you pick a side. Like the bad guys in The Division had good in some of their intentions (besides the rikers. Fuck those guys). Keener is one of the most interesting characters i have ever seen.

"Do you know how many agents died to hold the Dark Zone just for the brass to give up and put a wall around it?" When you see how bleak things were from his point of view it muddies the water a bit.

*SPOILER ALERT* Aron Keener is currently in Manhattan. He is actually interacting with the hunters we saw in the division 1. IDK the whole details but that somehow correlates with that one hunter mission in the division 2 were the hunter appears out of no where, shocks you, and disapears. It is believed that the hunters have their own secret organization but that theory doesnt have much evidence to support it. However, we can guess that the hunters have some beef with division agents considering that they wear those division wrist watches all over their body from the division agents they have killed. Perhaps they could be rogue division agents hunting other division agents or something 🤔

Where did you get the idea he is currently in Manhattan? One of his dead drops confirms he returned to NYC, but it never mentioned he stayed there. He could be anywhere. Hunters most likely have their own organization, but there is nothing know about them. I still think they're somehow linked to the G. Phillips Protocol.

Aron keener went back to Manhattan after finding out that there were division agents going to DC. There are still divison agents in Manhattan, so you may ask 'why did aron keener go back?', thats because he knows the division wont be looking for him there considering that he left previously to escape the organization. Aron keener considers himself smarter than the division, which is why he is hiding in a place where it is least suspected to be his current location.

If they ever make a div three I wish they would make it so that you have an option who to play as a division agent or a rogue agent who was part of keeners crew and there would be two story not completely different but depending on which group you pick you have a different main objective to follow and the story would overlap at some points but not entirely different and not entirely the same

You know, this puts me in a similar predicament of choosing a side like I did in Destiny 2, but with Keener, I'm less inclined to side with him. I signed up with the Division to do my job, and if there's someone harming Innocents, obstructing my ability to do my job, and committing acts of treason? He's a threat. To me, and to my allies. And I know exactly what to do with threats. The only thing I'd want to know, is could he have had a better goal in mind, could he do more good being spared?

Watching this because the newest story trailer for Division 2 Episode 3 came out. In the trailer, he looks like he joined the Black Tusk. Which as a major division 1 fan it has me torn. I've waited 3 years for this mission of "Killing Keener" but all of a sudden he goes from rogue agent to working with some military group that was introduced last-minute in Division 2???? It makes very little sense to me. I was expecting to go in and kill a bunch of rogue agents like all of this lore leads up to. Idk, just posting this here to see if anyone else has similar opinions.
