Curious Cars

Күн бұрын

I have to admit to being a little bit blown away by this car - I've driven some fast modern cars - Z06 Corvettes, CTS-V Cadillacs, A Ferrari 599 and some others - but I was not prepared for the intense muscle car rush the high performance versions of the Challenger give you, and this one is far - far - from the most potent.
I give Chrysler tremendous credit for keeping the pushrod Hemi going at a time when other companies are starting to retract their engine sizes. Dodge is bucking the trend for the time being, and I le them for it. This car is speed- hot, nasty speed. It leaps forward with a V8 scream of rage, and rips up pavement with 300 series tires - front and back!
And yet, this one is the sensible choice - with "only" 485 horsepower, it's just a shadow of the Hellcat model, never mind the insane Challenger Demon. I haven't driven one of them, and can only imagine the lunacy of it. God bless America.
This is a big, heavy, and powerful car. It also handles very well, stops very quickly, and is comfortable as hell to cruise. I've now added it to the very short list of cars I would personally own, and find myself having little daydreams about buying one. This is a dangerous thought, as I suspect I'd be without a license within just a few days of owning it, but at least I'd have a giant smile on my face. Long story short - I love this thing.
Full review and test drive by Bill of Curious Cars. Auto is for sale at Autohaus of Naples, on the web at www.AutohausNap..., or by phone at (239) 263-8500.

Electric cars are a scam. Producing an electric car generates 70% more CO2 than producing an ICE car. Charging an electric uses power of which 65% comes from coal. Current electric grid can't handle going all electric. Rebuilding our electric grid will generate huge amounts of C02.

Bought a 2021 Scat Pack a few months ago. Not the wide body because I like the traditional looks and $$$ but I love it more than any other car I've ever owned. I have always owned practical/sensible vehicles but always wanted something cool and fun. I've finally gotten to a place in life where I can afford something like this and I am delighted with the choice. Looks good (to me), sounds fantastic and is a joy to drive. I have never had anything "high performance" to compare it with but it seems amazing to me. Delighted with the choice. Great video.

Probably Bill’s greatest work, To date! 53 riveting minutes of Bill’s enthusiastic delivery. I also learned something. My view of Chrysler is that it’s more fiat than anything and that’s not good! The truth is the Challenger is relatively ancient in that it’s got Mercedes DNA and not Fiat DNA. That’s a very good thing when you throw in a big honking American V8 that’s hauls ass and sounds magnificent in doing so! Thank you Bill!

Development of the 1970 Challenger was very interesting. Ford's Mustang was based off the Falcon compact car. As such the Mustang's engine bay couldn't fit the big block V8's customers really wanted. Dodge based the Challenger off the Dodge Coronet/Plymouth Satellite mid-size car. Thus, the Challenger was as wide as a typical big car and it's engine bay could handle the biggest engines Chrysler offered, all the way to the 440 cid V8 used in the Imperial. Challenger styling took full advantage of that long hood and being the widest pony car of the day.

The Chrysler/Mercedes partner ship worked out great the Chrslyer 300 is an amazing combo of big American luxury but feels and looks nice like Mercedes. American manufacturers always underestimated the power of interior and how much it really sells a car post early 1990s. I wanted to buy a fast muscle car but also wanted to date and in the late 90s early 00s it was better off getting an import with nice leather interior than the American muscle. As far as going on dates although that also probably depends on where you grow up because women love fast car also. I grew up in the city of very hot South Florida, city girls wanted nice leather heated seats and great air-conditioning nice stereo was a plus. Now living in Pa I see country girls like trucks and muscle cars so again I guess its a lot to do with location.

I had an LS2 in a corvette & I love cars but that was plenty of hp for me to get into trouble.

Had a Hellcat before some assholes stole it. Very much miss the blower whine and exhaust combo. 400 to 500 hp is all you need on the streets. 6.4 sounds almost as good as the 6.2sc.

Bullitt was in 1968, the Charger was a 440.

Hey Bill I always enjoy your videos If you find one , can you do a review on the old the 190s Saab ? That would be cool 😎 to see you do a review on one of those. Your videos are always brilliant.

I somewhat disagree with Bill; neither the Charger nor the Challenger should’ve been sedans. The Challenger should’ve been a compact Pony Coupé, and the Charger should’ve been a Mid-size muscle Coupé. Challenger should’ve been more entry level, with the base engine being an I6/V6, as was the case in the past. Make the Charger a mid size, and a muscle car by default, with the base engine being a smaller V8.

I own the prior version, a 392 SRT manual 6. Yes, these are instant legends, excellent retro muscle, amazing build quality and power ratios. Absolutely love mine, and yes these are hella-fast cars. :) :) :) :) Watching Bill go from from 0-60 in like 3 seconds, or from 80 to 120 effortlessly in a blink, yeah, that's legit.

I have a charger scat pack (needed a 4 door); it’s an awesome car and the Challenger is as well. I just wish that there was 1 more complete redesign, not because of looks but the frame (torsional rigidity, etc). The cars need to be 2-4 inches shorter and about 400 lbs lighter. But unfortunately, because of sales,Dodge never needed to redo either car and now they are going to be replaced by an EV which will never have the same soul even with 1000 HP and 2-3 second 0-60 times

I learned that when Bill features a car built after 1990,let alone in the 21st century,he is totally impressed.
