I have to admit to being a little bit blown away by this car - I've driven some fast modern cars - Z06 Corvettes, CTS-V Cadillacs, A Ferrari 599 and some others - but I was not prepared for the intense muscle car rush the high performance versions of the Challenger give you, and this one is far - far - from the most potent.
I give Chrysler tremendous credit for keeping the pushrod Hemi going at a time when other companies are starting to retract their engine sizes. Dodge is bucking the trend for the time being, and I le them for it. This car is speed- hot, nasty speed. It leaps forward with a V8 scream of rage, and rips up pavement with 300 series tires - front and back!
And yet, this one is the sensible choice - with "only" 485 horsepower, it's just a shadow of the Hellcat model, never mind the insane Challenger Demon. I haven't driven one of them, and can only imagine the lunacy of it. God bless America.
This is a big, heavy, and powerful car. It also handles very well, stops very quickly, and is comfortable as hell to cruise. I've now added it to the very short list of cars I would personally own, and find myself having little daydreams about buying one. This is a dangerous thought, as I suspect I'd be without a license within just a few days of owning it, but at least I'd have a giant smile on my face. Long story short - I love this thing.
