The Dogs of Medellín

Welcome to Medellin (meh·uh·yeen ), a city with amazing culture, food and of course, a dark past. But today, we're not talking narco culture, we’re here to talk about the dogs of this huge city.
30-years ago these guys might have been guardians of some dark bario in the far reaches of this city run by a by a cartel.
But things have changed.
Now for tourists at least, this place has over 4-million residents, and that dent include its dogs.
Here in Medellin dogs are loved and are part of the fabric of everyday life. They wander looking for snacks along the way. And now the can wander these once bloody streets where they doze peacefully outside the doorways of the their own little territories.
But it's not all sunshine and tail wags. Like any city, Medellin has its struggles, and its furry inhabitants face their own challenges. Many have loving homes, where they are fed and bred for. Others live on the streets and have to fend for themselves.
Like humans, dogs form gangs of their own as a way to survive, forming their own complex societies in the process.
And as for the cats here, they prefer to be hidden from view, and live low profile lives it seems, mostly indoors…
As you travel the back allies of this city nestled of the Andes Mountains don’t forget about the dogs of Medellin.
They are wonderful critters that have leaned to live among us. They have adapted well to a world filled with chaos and uncertainty. Their presence adds to the appeal of this amazing place.
