Amen!!!!! We went to Bluegreen back in April for spring break. They almost got hostile with me when I told them no!!!! And yes, 90 mins turned into 3 hours!!!! Valuable family time at the beach was lost by them!!!! Bluegreen is HORRIBLE!!!!! And the "free" extra vacations they gave me on top of that one, yea....a joke!!! I'm still working on that 8 day 7 night condo. That I had to pay a $50 fee to just register to get it. Then I called to get reservations and they told me there was nothing available at Myrtle Beach during that week. They asked if I wanted to go anywhere else. Ummmm, no! I was a Lifeguard on the beach here in Myrtle in the 80's. I caught a Guy who had been stealing Items like hotel keys, money etc, from beach towels left by the tourist while they would swim or what ever. He would then go to the hotel rooms and rob them of what ever he could. This guy was not a native but was a local here, and was known by me and others in the area( not known well enough though). He was caught because a young daughter was in a hotel room he broke into. She screamed he panic and fled. The Family contacted the police and the Father and Daughter were telling me what had just happened when the Daughter saw the would be thief jogging down the beach. I ran up behind him and asked him to stop a moment and he took off running faster. MBPD had also showed up at that time.and the chase was on, I caught up to him hiding behind a Dumpster. When the PD went to his home two block from where we all were they freaked out at ALL THE STOLEN GOODS THAT HE HAD. Definitely leave a tip. The average wage in Horry County (where Myrtle Beach is) is always close to dead last for ALL COUNTIES in the USA, so you can imagine that those in the service industry are making a wage a little bit more valuable than a handful of dirt. I was a skilled laborer in Myrtle Beach, and even with that wage there were times I couldn't make ends meet.

It's not safe. Don't be an asshole to the locals. (It bears repeating). Don't talk about how much better such and such is up north. Go back if you love it so much. Please don't come here for a few weeks, get a "summer" pet, then abandon it. Every September, there is a surge in the strays and the shelters. Finally, if there's a sign in any parking lot or neighborhood saying you will be towed if you park there without a sticker, guess what? You will be. Did I mention don't be an asshole to the locals? 😊

Here's another one; Sharks are more active during the warm seasons like spring and summer. Try not to wear bright colored bathing suits while swimming. Don't wear jewelry either. Reason is that sharks are colorblind and will mistake you for a fish and will test bite you which could end up taking a chunk out of you and should you see fins in the water, DON'T PANIC! Sharks will think you are an injured sea creature and will become aggressive. Most people who die from shark attacks are either pulled under and drown or get mauled to death. Also, DON'T GO SWIMMING IN THE OCEAN AT NIGHT! Again, sharks get far more aggressive at night cause they can see better I think, Idk don't quote me on that, but that is usually when they hunt for food. One tourist saw a shark close to shore and thought it would be funny to antagonize it and the shark damn near took his foot off and swam away. Be mindful and cautious of what color your bathing suit is. I don't think MB has had any shark attack incidents in the past year, but again, I could be wrong.

Learned hard way. In Horry County If you leave anything not on your person. ( items on beach. Towel. Chair cooler etc) it no longer belongs to you. If someone walks by picks it up and takes it. The police can not/will not do anything about it. It happens so frequently that the passed ordinance to keep police from having to take report or deal with it.

So glad this came up today! My best friend, her kids and grand kids and I are going on June 5 for a week. Never been. I can't wait. Is it worth it to go to the aquarium. We will have 5 kids from 4-12 years old.

Check for coupons before you go. Locals get a discount if they can prove they live here. There are coupons for everybody else in the coupon books in front of restaurants. But YES! Take those kids to the MB Aquarium!!! When mine were younger, I took them quite often. We spent at least 2 fun hours there each time, if not more time!!

#11: Don't go to Dave and Busters at Broadway at the Beach! The hostess (at least mine) was rude, you are forced to order via a website at your table, you have to pay BEFORE you get your food, you obviously can't ask about the items, or how behind the kitchen is, or if you can get anything special (say, cocktail sauce with your Fish & Chips), and a 20% tip is added to the bill BEFORE you even get to meet your server.

Nice review ... long as you don’t display your alcohol beverages - they do not enforce the no alcohol law ! Probably 95% of the beach goers carry beer to the beach! On the 4th of July - the beach is the best place to watch fireworks ! Live here long enough and you’ll learn the rules and have a great time!

Good advice. I stayed at Myrtle Beach for 8 days at Compass Cove and had a great time with no issues at all. I will go there again. When I was swimming in the ocean I left my wallet & keys in the room, and just wore my plastic wrist band hotel key that they gave me. There was a lot of drinking going on at the beach, I definitely noticed that. The Police patrol the beach, so it’s just asking for trouble. I also saw the cops throw some guys off the beach for fireworks. Our room was on the first floor between the pool and the Tiki bar. So I got to see 3 more incidents involving the police right from the patio off of our room (front row seats…LOL!). Myrtle Beach is a great place, and I had a great time.

Just got back 7-29-19. Uber was good...not on Sunday tho. Got lucky with humidity...was very low. And lots of resturants are closed on Sunday. It was our first time. Other than that it was ok.

Don't expect the cleaning staff to wipe down your sliding glass doors or vacuum sand from your carpet each day. Then you won't be disappointed. Don't plan on eating on peek hours during summer months or you will be waiting a long time for a table. Go early if you can. Don't go out above your chest in the ocean or the lifeguards will keep blowing their whistles at you to humiliate you. Don't blare your radio on the beach and disturb those around you. Some people have no consideration for others. Don't drop water balloons off your balconies or anything else for that matter. Don't swim in the pool when it is closed at night. Don't pee in the hot tub or pool...that is just gross.

Always tip unless they do a bad job, not only if they do a good job. Waiters get under $3 an hour in most places in the U.S.Batrtenders under minimum wage usually.

My niece just spent 2 weeks in Myrtle Beach. Today New York State has made it mandatory for returning residents to quarantine for 2 weeks because of COVID19. So, I guess she is quarantining for 2 weeks. Fun, fun, fun.

I'd say to please don't leave your trash on the beaches and please fill in your holes on the beach. We always pick up trash and fill in snug holes before we leave the beach, tourist don't think of it but the sea turtles get sick in the holes if too deep and they can be dangerous to beach walkers at night!!

Dang, this list makes me want to go to a different beach. Can’t drink, can’t use canopy, can’t lay out naked... are you allowed to get in the water?

You can drink, just play it cool. Where can you lay out naked on a public beach?
