The Doobie Brothers - China Grove (From "Live At The Greek Theatre 1982")
Available Now: mercury-studios.lnk.to/Doobie...
Recorded at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California in 1982, this concert was the last date on "Farewell Tour". It was an emotional night and would be the last gig for 5 years. The set contained all their best loved hits and they were joined by founder member Tom Johnston for the last two tracks, with former members John Hartman (also from the original line-up), Tiran Porter and Michael Hossack coming on stage for the celebratory finale of "Listen To The Music". The band are in fantastic form and rise to the occasion magnificently, they can rarely have delivered a better performance throughout their distinguished career. An album called "Farewell Tour" was released by Warners in 1983 but this featured tracks recorded at several different concerts across the tour. This is the first time the audio of their actual final concert has been available.
On CD format, four additional tracks from the concert have also been reinstated as bonus tracks. On the DVD format, the Bonus Features offer five tracks from the concert that were cut from the original 1982 film: "Little Darling (I Need You)", "One Step Closer", "Dependin' On You", "Real Love" and "No Stoppin' Us Now" plus interviews with the band members and manager.
TRACKLISTING - DVD

"Live At The Greek Theatre 1982" is, simply, classic Doobie Brothers at the peak of their powers -with guest appearances by several former members. Not to be missed!
When the sun comes up on a sleepy little town
Down around San Antone
And the folks are risin' for another day
'round about their homes.
The people of the town are strange
And they're proud of where they came.
Well, you're talkin' 'bout China Grove, wo, oh, oh,
Oh, China Grove.
Well, the preacher and the teacher,
Lord, they're a caution, they are the talk of the town.
When the gossip gets to flyin' and they ain't lyin';
When the sun goes fallin' down.
They say that the father's insane
And dear Missus Perkin's a game.
We're talkin' 'bout the China Grove, wo, oh, oh,
Oh, China Grove.
But ev'ryday there's a new thing comin',
The ways of an oriental view.
The sheriff and his buddies
With their samurai swords,
You can even hear the music at night.
And though it's part of the Lone Star State
People don't seem to care,
They just keep on lookin' to the East.
Talkin' 'bout the China Grove, oh, China Grove

ahhh....the drug-addled hyped-up tempos !!!!! One of the best songs ever. I love Mike McDonald but The Doobies for me will always be Tom Johnston. The female singer I gig with was born in '71....one night whilst gigging someone asked for 80s rock and I said "Doobie Bros" and she was like "they're pop" (thinking What A Fool Believes etc) ...I had to explain to her that the Doobs were actually a rock band when they started out. :-)

Another cool switch like that is when Stevie Ray Vaughan broke a string on his Strat and had to perform a quick switch while still singing. That video is on KZbin and is cool to watch. Tom's switch is cool too.

Used to play this song in a band back in the 70's when I was in high school. Yeah, we couldn't just listen to great music; we had to PLAY it to celebrate it. No computers around, just instruments, mics, and amplification. Oh, and the turntables we learned the songs off of. That's how it was.
