As good as it gets. My first concert in June 1974 at the Chicago Amphitheater. This song is 50 years old now and probably at least 45 when they made this appearance, but the point stands. They sound terrific and Mr. Johnston sounds no different than he did in the years 1972- 1974. They got soft when Mr. McDonald joined the band and after Stampede, I tuned out...but Mr. Johnston and Mr. McDonald both claim to have had a very good relationship. Lot's of band who could really play got soft when producers and studios wanted hits in the later 70's....America, Three Dog Night, Eagles just to name a few. This performance here sounds as good as the day they recorded it..maybe better.

Aussie here, and I had tickets to see them in either '74 or '75 (can't remember exactly which year it was at this remove), but they got sick from flu in Hawaii and scrubbed the rest of their tour - which included their Australian leg. I don't have many regrets in my life, but not getting to see those guys in the 70s is a major one. Good to hear that Tom is still belting them out though! Tom and Pat were always the heart and soul of the Doobies. I was never crazy about the "McDonald years". Not meaning to rubbish Michael McDonald, he's a talented man to be sure, but the Doobies were never the same without Tom and Pat up front, in my humble opinion. I wish I could have seen them back in the day. Color me green with envy, man 🙂
