American icons! Could arguably be called America's rock band. Tom's voice is spot on. 50+ years and sounding today as good as they did in '71.

I love the fact that when they do a cover version they seem to complement the original Isley Brothers tune but add a little rock rhythm to it. They did something similar to the Marvin Gaye tune Little Darlin’. I have been a fan of the Doobies since forever and will be till the day I die.

These waere the magic times when the Doobies were still a real Brothers band, and what a line up of orginal Doobies: Pat Simmons, John "Little John" Hartman, Tiran Porter, Bobby Lakind, Tom Johnston, Micheal Hossack, & Cornelius Bumpus........it just had the right feel..........the right swing.......right chemistry cant be substituted by session musicians.......Long live The Doobie Brothers.....

Yeah well that's your opinion.The Doobies were always good! I've followed them since the beginning. The very beginning. They are and always were good whatever the lineup. Don't make it sound technical. They are a band good sound ,soul,rock,all the way through. They don't need an analysis of how good they are. They are good.

So many things can start with: "You know you are getting old when..." You know you are getting old when you think of this song/album as "new", as it was a come back of the original band - now 31 years later! Nice to see the core members of the Doobies together again here.

Saw them in Dallas with the Robert Cray band and I can whole heartedly say they still kick ass and age like wine. They just keep getting better as the years roll on.

The perfect band for marrying pop and semi-hard rock. I've seen them 5 times in 45 years and they NEVER disappoint in any capacity.

When you've got the camera work and editing of an on- stage performance such as this you get awesomeness beyond compare. An Isley Brothers original with a Doobies, Tom Johnston cover. If that ain't goin' to heaven I don't know what is.

Back in the 70's and 80's these bands had flat out talent, unlike today's music! No comparison between. Doobies are one of the best in the business.

I was at this show many years ago at the now defunct Poplar Creek outside of Chicago. They said they would be taping the performance for a music video and did the song twice. The audience was very loud and thats why you see Ton Johnson clap for the crowd at the end.

In 1972 the Doobie Brothers asked me to Listen To The Music and I have and loved every note. Seen The Doobie Brothers in concert 4 times. All, thankfully without McDonald. I have CDs from The Doobie Brothers to Stampede. Then from Brotherhood and all others after.

Love the Doobies and this is a great cover of the Isley brothers classic.Check out Ernie Isleys solo on the original 1974 version, pretty killer guitar. Solo starts about 1: 57. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5uWoXlppMiZqZI

This song is from their "comeback" album- as in when the original members got back together and blasted off again. And I so so glad they did ! They were my first concert ever right after they put out the Captain and me album...and I have absolutely loved them my whole life....Long live the Doobies !!!

I did a little research on this song. I cant believe it did not make the top 40. Another song from this album did. "The Doctor" charted at #9 in '89. The album was "Cycles". I personally think this is a better track.
@cubdukat4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it was a real shame nobody wanted to give this lineup much of a chance. The Doobie Brothers were a perfect example of a replacement member going on to define the band forever more. Just like Phil Collins with Genesis and David Gilmour with Pink Floyd, people seemed to get so used to Michael McDonald that they forgot about great songs like "Black Water" and "China Grove" which didn't feature him at all. If's as if people forgot there was a Doobie Brothers before him. Although I was definitely on Team McDonald back then, I really felt like they were really not into what they were doing anymore. If Michael had released "One Step Closer" under his own name and not the Doobies, I doubt anybody would have been the wiser.

I remember hearing The Doctor on the radio in 1989. I do like this song too, perhaps better. Most of the Cycles album is actually pretty good, IMO.

Bland? Yeah, about as bland as Lena Kansbod and Kathy Ireland! This Isley Brothers' original is one of the best R&B numbers of all time. The Doobie Brothers should have been placed in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame the day it opened, and the Isleys success speaks for itself.

You obviously don't know the Doobie's very well if you think the Doctor was their only good song. They had dozens of great hits & albums long before this song even came out in 1988. They also had several more good ones later on.
