It’s actually the Aquarius Theatre, which is still there, but not in use. It is across the street from the Palladium, in Hollywood. An indoor venue, by the way. These shows were over a 2 day period, with an early show and a late show each day… Stellar recordings, and absolutely the quintessential captured snapshot of this band in its finest prowess performances!! My favorites by far for what has been in circulation. Manzeric’s keyboards so haunting amazing, and Krieger, Densmore totally ON. Jim, well, Jim is Jim: American Poet…🎸🔥🎤🎼🔥🎸💗👍👂👀

The Aquarius shows are the last recorded shows where Ray is Still playing the Vox Continental organ . By the time they Recorded the New York shows in January 1970 Ray had switched to using Fender organs . The Doors don't sound as good when Ray uses the Fender organ. The Vox Continental organ is such a huge part of the Doors original sound . I found Ray's Fender organ sound to be dull and muffled and almost muddy. The Voc had clarity and cut that his Fenders didn't. The Fenders don't have that Carnival sounding bounce like the Vox did. The Vox sounds more dark and sinister but also has alot more clarity and high end cut .

@ I forgot to mention that Morrison said the Doors were resented or even hated by many others because they were so good! The other bands couldn’t compare or compete with them. He was right! They were jealous of the Doors success. So many hit songs and albums. But then he said that the Doors would eventually be accepted like an old friend because they didn’t go away. They were steady performers and not fly by nighters. He was correct again! Morrison was highly perceptive and intelligent! He knew the game and how to play it. So were Ray and Robbie.

I’d say this is better than the Hollywood Bowl show and I wish someone had recorded the shows visually because from the photos it looks amazing! You don’t realize how good they really were until you hear this show! Jim once said that they Doors were hated by some because they were so good! They had musicianship that was off the hook! Stunning virtuacity on their instruments! The crowd listened in stunned silence because they were hypnotized by the swirling sounds! A band of virtuosos!
@jcrock8517Ай бұрын
I agree. This is better than the Hollywood bowl concert. Amazingly detailed and tight, yet freer and highly energized. I haven’t heard any other live material by the band quite like this. The whole band are on top form.

@ I have a CD from that show that has a young Jim Morrison on the cover on stage. The 2 Aquarius CDS have the bearded older Jim Morrison on them. So I always assumed the younger photo was from the show. Now I’m not sure. But I agree I t would be great if there was any live footage from this show! Since the band decided to record right why did they film it too? A real shame they didn’t want any visuals. I don’t know why.

anyone know wtf happened to Jim during Peace Frog? why did he not sing?? passed out?? did he pull a Keith Moon?
@とずとヤマータの日記2 ай бұрын
It’s likely that the vocal take for 'Peace Frog' hadn’t been recorded yet. Jim was often late during the Morrison Hotel sessions in 1969, so it’s possible that the instrumental track was completed first and the vocals were planned for later. At this stage, they may not have finalized the vocal pitch or even recorded any vocals yet, meaning only the instrumental was complete for this live performance.
@MikeLobascio-q9l2 ай бұрын
Likely to be said, I think what The Doors were doing for a change. We’re doing an instrumental version of it. That’s why see there’s two versions of it. There’s a vocal version with the instruments or they have the second version the instrumental version, my dear friend.
