Invoker’s model is from Warcraft’s Kael’thas. Chinese romanization of “Kael” is Kah-Er, romanized back to English as Carl (listen to Sumiya talk about Carl). Zeus’ model was reworked too - became a buff boy. Dota 2 has family ties with League of Legends via Guinsoo, a designer of Dota 1. Sheepstick used to be called Guinsoo’s Scythe of Vyse, an upgrade of Eul’s. To follow Earthshaker’s Dota 1 lineage with his Arcana, Wraith King did the same as the Skeleton King (implied as Leoric). Spectre was a future self of Phantom Assassin. In Dota 1, Terror Blade and AntiMage were brothers, which used the same Warcraft character Illidan pre/post demonic corruption. Troll and Faceless Void equipped with basher and enough ias used to have permabash (no cooldown) - went thru BKB; insta-win! Right click Zeus was meta when Butterfly was first introduced. Eaglesong and Reaver referenced Diablo 2 items Eaglehorn and Messerschmidt’s Reaver. Buriza-do-kyanon (Japanese romanization of Blizzard Canon) of Diablo 2 fame, ended up as the Daedalus. Might be too late to see this, but just wanted to mention that one of the late game visual bugs was that if the game took long enough, character models would just stop appearing on the map and become extremely difficult to interact with. They were not mechanically invisible and you couldn't even see/click the highlighter circle to indicate where they were, making the game practically unplayable.

Great video and topic! Some things I think you may have missed that I thought might have appeared on the iceberg: - There used to be a fourth type of damage in Dota 2 that got removed, it was called composite damage I think, which dealt a mix of physical and magical damage. - Techies' minefield sign ability was originally a part of a set, but was then added to the default set after players complained that it could have been pay-to-win. The reasoning was that it was contributing to the psychological warfare of placing mines. - Invoker's Cataclysm upgrade was first featured in Siltbreaker, where it was one of the abilities of a boss you and your teammates fought. - There used to be a bug (or perhaps an interesting mechanical interaction) with Batrider's and Pangolier's ultimates, where a lassoed target would take massive damage in rapid succession from Pango's ultimate once they made contact. - Keeper of the Light's Will-O-Wisp actually has a name, it's called Ignis Fatuus.

Pocket riki refers to the shitpost 8yrs ago for an aghs idea for riki, where he enters an ally heroes inventory, where he gives his passives to the hero. He can also be sold for gold, or consumed for health

Courier count wasn't limited to 1 in dota1 actually. If you are willing to buy more then one, it would be totally fine and some mid players actually bought their own courier besides the one which team share and they explicitly say to "don't use this courier' to the team

Kael's fun name Carl is not a D1 reference per se. It is a reference to the russian community misspelling Kael's name in one of the patchnotes. This went viral and IceFrog implemented the fun name "Carl" for Kael. *A fun name is a name with a low chance of replacing the actual name, like Moghul Khan > Moghul Khan't Touch This.

The Blink Dagger extra range IS actually in the description, just press alt and the tooltip shows that. It's been there at least since 2015 when I started playing.

I would also add browser games NaVi pudge hook trainer or invoker spell trainer (the last 1 still exists). It was so much fun to play it during a class at school before... Also, Necro ulti would increase respawn time and not allow buyback to the hero that died from it, or smth like that. It was too OP :)

When the tormenter was introduced, it was once again for a short period possible to destroy the fountain by putting the tormenter in spawn. This could be done by having an io relocate a primal beast while said primal beast using pulverise on the tormenter.

in Dota 1 ealier patches, you can't buy Blink Dagger when you play as Butcher or Vengeful Spirit. using Manta Style while in DK ultimate form, you will have to use shift button to clone the dragon instead of og hero

Hope I remember it right but since Dota 1, it was implied that if you use Blink Dagger far above its cast range it would only take you to 2/3 of its range, unlike using BD precisely to its max range. Same goes with AM's and QoP's blink abilities. I forgot where I read it from but it's been like that since. It was a big QoL change to add an AoE circle for your cast range in Dota 2. Love the vid (especially the Techies iceberg)!

Not trying to be overly pedantic but blink goes like 5/6ths max range when over cast the 1200 range. Qop blink can be cast past max range and will go the max 1300 range. The interaction with qop is that u can go slightly past the 1300 'max'. If u click just outside the area u can blink like 1350-1400 range, very slight gain. People will do the trick with blink dagger since 1000 vs 1200 cast range can mean a missed stun on centaur for example. On QoP no1 will do this trick as it is difficult with small gain(qop blink 6sec cd vs blink 18), whats interesting is that the qop trick can be used when Bloodseeker ruptures you. A normal blink of 1300 range will proc rupture damage, but a max blink of 1400 range wont trigger the threshold. Its why TPs and relocate dont trigger rupture. This is how it was at least, maybe its patched.

Do people really need an iceberg to learn that Crystal Maiden and Lina are sisters? I feel that that one should've been surface level at most, but it's not like that information is hidden anyway. I will say, of all the model reworks that characters had (at least up to the point where I stopped playing), the most memorable was my favorite character's, Venomancer. Most model reworks just gave the character more details or made them less similar to Blizzard characters, but I straight-up lost limbs and that will never not be funny to me. Sure, I wasn't using them, but they can't act like I wasn't going to notice :v Speaking of Venomancer, here's a bit of trivia for him - his lore page describes him as the master of the Jidi's Acid Jungles, but one of his voice lines says he was a "minor inconvenience" there. I was never sure how those two bits of information squared with each other.

the aghanim's lore is because it used to largely be a useless item on some heroes and only like half of them even had an agh's upgrade even though the item wasn't hero locked like basher used to be, you could "buy it for the stats" on some heroes when it had a different recipe that included mystic staff.

You hit the nose for me with Aghanim for being such a powerful and taken-seriously entity in the dota 2 universe (along with the fact that dota 2 is more of a mature, realistic, darker theme game) you get a goofball blue wizard??!!!! The forced 50% isn’t a conspiracy theory. Players within a given rank are labeled as either Earners or Non-earners. When on a win streak you are labeled as an earner, and are teamed with more non-earners. Every single match is not perfectly balanced with 5 earners on each team. At max, it is usually 2-3 earners per team so queue times are faster and ranks are evenly spread. This is why players in your same rank can be dog shit. Edit: This is how all skill based matchmaking systems work.
