That's the problem with other media, they normally just have the front man and maybe a guitarist on to talk. Craig is bringing the drummers to the front and centre 🙌

Was a massive fan of Shikari in the TTTS days, just went off them as my taste got heavier and they deviated down a different path. As times gone by I’ve been going back through the albums and they’re all amazing, so glad to see the lads doing well and loving what they’re doing too. Great interview!

I remember being sat in my garden. Recently unemployed. Bevd up. Listening to Enter Shikari sing "we're apocaholics, drinking gin and tonics" and it being so brutally relevant.
@tomoneil8638 Жыл бұрын
Shikari have never been exclusively heavy. So the "not what they used to be" crowd are deluded. The "I just want the angry" punkish crowd are upset because common TTTS and common dreads and AFFOC were about punching the guilty party in the face with their message. From The Spark it became about introspection, and being ok with yourself. You can be angry and be motivated and mobile in global movements, and still learn to be ok and happy. These recents albums don't fail on the energy, they just focus on the self a lot more, and there's plenty to be angry about with respect to those things that infiltrate and disrupt your ability to be ok.

People expect bands to permanently exist in one moment in time and to never change the sound as the musicians themselves change as people. The Sam/Dan podcast episode does a great job explaining this too.
@NotLuigi Жыл бұрын
Each Shikari album was definitely fairly varied and evolved the band's sound, but the predominant sound of the band was still very heavy even with tracks like "Today Won't Go Down In History" on TTTS. The Spark went in a totally different direction and the predominant sound was far less heavy. I don't think the "Shikari aren't as heavy as they used to be" crowd are entirely wrong with what they say.

Please do bring back Rockness! Great memories seeing Shikari, Pendulum, Prodigy, and so many others. Was a nice festival for us up here where it's out of the way for most bands touring schedules. Especially now the only decent sized venue in Inverness shut down for more hotels.

Awh man, this is making me all kinds of nostalgic! I haven't listened to Enter Shikari in a long, long while, but I used to *love* them a decade ago, when I was a teenager. I saw them live at a festival in 2013, when I was 17 years old, and it was awesome. I was hanging out in front of the stage with my then-boyfriend like an hour before the show started, because we had nothing better to do, and one of the band members came onto stage to fix something. For the life of me I can't remember who it was... but I remember he chatted to us, and I was so struck and dumbfounded because I loved this band so much, I just talked gibberish and felt really embarrassed afterwards. It was an awesome show, though! Edit: Omg, and then Rou goes on to describe the dream festival location as pretty much the festival I saw them on, Hove, which was in coastal southern Norway, in the middle of a forested area, summertime, there was a lake I believe, or people went swimming anyways, and the gibberish I talked about was the stringed lights hanging over all of the paths in the forest and how pretty it was.

Sure someone else will have mentioned this but on the topic of venues doubly as strip clubs, when you mention it being a separate room, you might be thinking of the (RIP) Peel in Kingston where half the building was venue and the other half, accessed via garden gate, was a strip club. I can recall attending an all dayer there in 2001 or something and losing a bunch of friends, only to discover they'd found said strip club and had decided it was more fun than the early afternoon bands on the all dayer. I was less impressed on all counts.
