I have to agree. The fact that they killed a scared and clueless child for trying to help people (who are suffering, at that) and have no decency to even spare her in the place of someone willing is extremely telling. I want them to explore this in season 7. Because the way they are portrayed here sets them up as these power-hungry monsters who deceive people into thinking they are good. There is literally no reason for them to have killed Leola for that. Yes, Aaravos is messed up (in the way that he chose to spite them), but so are they. He needs to go down, but so do they. It makes so much sense for the type of character they want Aaravos to be (I think, judging by the way he was written this episode). Not a grey character, but a villain who has a point. If the council gets no consequences for killing Leola and being the technical catalyst for this spiral of chaos, I'm gonna be deeply unsatisfied. Edit: Yes, I know I already said this, but I felt that it was just better to write a new, improved reply.

Those sparkly dunderheads killed her in the name of the so called cosmic order or whatever it's called, while what she did was literally balancing power between them. So long story short; Aaravos is spreading mayhem over the world because his kind killed his daughter because she gave magic to humans out of the goodness of her heart while being mistaken to disrupted the balance, and if they left her alone Aaravos wouldn't be blinded by revenge and the world would have been in pease with humans being able to fend for themselves, I.e. You'd see the entire race going down the Feanor route if their leaders, the Maiar or the Valar ever did anything like this. Hell, I think even the *Aeldari from Warhammer 40k* would be in uproar. A young Eldar befriending and teaching Psyker techniques to a Mon'keigh child would be taboo and cause for uproar and lectures, but _execution??_ Unthinkable. I don't think even the Drukhari would do something like that. Well, they might kill each other's children or worse in their civil wars in Comorragh (never mind what they do to human and Tau, young or old), but for such a petty reason as this? I heard there are four theories of justice: retribution, repayment, prevention, and intimidation. Retribution is primarily concerned that all parties suffer equally. Ex: You run over someone's dog, now your dog must be put down. Repayment is primarily concerned that damages are repaired. Ex: You run over someone's dog, you pay for their new dog. Prevention is primarily concerned that measures are taken to reduce opportunities to commit future damages. Ex: You run over someone's dog, your driving privileges are taken away. Intimidation is primarily concerned with making the choice of doing damages as unappealing as possible. Ex: You run over someone's dog, you get 50 lashes. Of all the theories, I can't fathom how punishing that child achieves any their ends.

Some Elves, like certain gemstones, can fade in color from intense stress. They pale and dull, hair going from bright white/silver to ash, and their vibrant blue skin to pewter grey. This can happen from trauma or drastic change in the environment and living conditions. Bro claims to have cried for a century, filling a crater with his tears. This alludes to him not eating, drinking, sleeping, or resting properly - if at all. Long-term depression can take physical tolls on a person's health, especially if you're outside, starving, exhausted, exposed to the elements, and constantly racked with grief. As for his chrest, many are tied to their connection to light or their primal source. As their hope dies out, or their connection weakens, the light dims and even goes out. Notice his daughter's skin is very rich in color, her chrest is very bright, and her hair is not only vibrant, but *_two toned_*

@@aashnaabcYou misunderstand the order of events. His daughter _tried_ to teach humans normal "good" magic, and did not succeed before she was executed for it. In retaliation, Aaravos taught humans _dark_ magic instead, which corrupts them and kills magical beings, and began screwing everyone over with his schemes. This is what the dragons imprisoned him for. It's a little strange the other startouched elves didn't execute him for the far worse crimes he committed intentionally; I think the implication is probably meant to be that he got to all of them first.

@@aashnaabc Correct. Ironically, the reason his daughter was executed was because there was a prophecy that teaching humans magic would throw the world into chaos--a prophecy that was fulfilled because of the dark magic Aaravos taught them in revenge for said execution.

Just noticed Aaravos's star on his chest pre falling is different from everyone elses. The Merciful one and Leola have the curve on the star below while Aaravos has it above until he falls. Also the frame where Leola's killed makes the star symbol but the curve is right side up and the Diamond that's characteristic of Star Magic and Dark Magic is there. The connections between darkness and stars is most definitely real though season 7 will more accurately reveal what said connection is. I wonder why the mark on Aaravos's chest aligned more with the Star symbol before falling while the other elves who we saw in mortal form had the arc opposite like Aaravos post fall, was he more radiant that the others before falling in some way? We know it was likely him in the first intro that was there to see the banishment of humans from Xadia, was it because he was in a position of power or just because he was the only Startouch elf in Xadia at the time? We don't know how involved he was with startouch culture, post Leola we know he has been detached but we don't know if she was a Runan, Kimdael who had followers and friends among his culture or a Lunanje who just lived in isolation though he was a master of all primal sources, something that may be exceptional even among the Great ones, he seems to have spent much of his immortal life learning other arcanums and just being the best mage in history by quite a margin, I'd say that leaving Aaravos alive might be the biggest mistake the council ever made especially with his connections to dark magic and conflict on Xadia. Edit: You can use the < and > signs to change frames so skip around and use them to see specific frames.

Is the coloring do to the dead startouch elves in the past or is it due to the Heaven's of Xadia being a Nebula of some sort? Edit: Maybe Star magic is actually taping into the magic of the stars while Dark Magic is more about the Vast emptiness of space and entropy, Just like how Aaravos felt empty after Leola died his figurative light, he understood and learned the arcanum of darkness. Maybe the fact darkness isn't a primal source is to discredit him and Leola's death, he taps into the literal darkness of space, the cold empty vacuum devoid of everything, black holes and stuff. Maybe the Star Devourer dragons could tap into darkness to absorb the essence of Stars or perhaps the Void dragons hiding in the Darkness between the stars isn't of the Star arcanum but of the Dark arcanum. It even plays into Aaravos's themes and stuff they hide from the darkness of the stars. It'd make sense too sense Stars was probably the arcanum he knew the best innately so after his journey of learning all the arcanums his final discovery is Darkness, the idea of the infinite space between us. Sources can definitively say the Universe is mostly darkness, so if the wind, the ocean, the earth, and the sun, why isn't the void that divides them valid too as an entity. Maybe the Arcanum is suffering, we've been calling it corruption but what if these hollowed out forms of Dark Mages are the equivalent of an elf for Dark Magic or perhaps Aaravos is because he's a star who saw the darkness he looked away from his own radiant light and saw the space that divided him from everyone else, literally as his suffering and empathy and literally being separated from the heavens of Xadia. In his despair he discovered the last and most powerful arcanum and it even plays with himself being the symbol, Aaravos who is well aquainted with space turned away from the light and saw the vastness of space, does this give him gravity powers potentially since space has a lot of ties with that, it's really vague if you consider it. Maybe it's true cosmic order the idea that everything is doomed to chaos because of entropy it even builds off ocean with you not being able to control everything, perhaps it's about sacrificing others or yourself for your ultimate goal. Maybe it's the opposite of star magic, where it's all about us being stardust binded by love, maybe it's the opposite while we are all comprised of various elements whether it's stardust or carbon we all will eventually return to an elemental state, for humans we're carbon and we eventually will die and that carbon will be used in a different way. Understanding dark magic truly is understanding that fact. Or it could be hatred and being willing to do anything to achieve a goal with the understanding since we're all made of stardust it can be reallocated, a table and a pencil are made of wood so theoretically if you could manipulate the molecules you could turn a table into a big pencil. It could be similar to alchemy also benefiting humanity immensely, humans are inherently the beings on Xadia struggling the most due to their lack of magical privileges, maybe that gives them a closer connection to the dark arcanum, they don't seem very religious in any way compared to the sunfire elves. The humans have been forced to compromise their morals more do to having the disadvantage, maybe it's more than "hate" it's nihilism and entropy the acceptance of entropy but rather than being nihilistic finding value in it. Aaravos knows in the long term no matter what Leola will die, however he's willing to exchange someone else for her literally, get stardust, sacrifice another daughter like figure potentially, perhaps even himself to achieve his goals. If ocean arcanum is knowing you have depths even of yourself you don't know of maybe Darkness is being aware that there are things you're willing to compromise your morals for, things that mean so much to you, you're willing to compromise them. For Viren if it meant he kept Soren he was willing to do dark magic, for Claudia if it met keeping her family safe she'd be literally willing to sacrifice anyone, for Callum Rayla is his breaking point, for Aaravos it's clearly Leola. Aaravos is truly able to hate and use dark magic to it's fullest because he loved, he knows that there is infinite darkness within him figuratively, he'd do anything to get revenge on the startouch elves just like there's infinite darkness in space, he's willing to do it if he must. The strongest feats without the corrupted sunstone or unicorn horn and hatred (Harrow's hate who was also willing to do anything to kill Avizandum) was when Ziard and Viren used dark magic willing to sacrifice themselves sacrificing themselves for their goals. Maybe it's because Aaravos isn't in denial of his goals, maybe Claudia will surpass even Aaravos at Dark Magic by the end, we know she made the hot brown morning potion, with the loss of her father this might be what's needed to truly make her understand darkness, maybe even a space metaphor. "There are many stars in the sky but between them an infinite darkness" or something among the lines of "The Universe originated in darkness and eventually it will return to darkness." the concept even defying the other startouch elves arrogance insulating darkness will exist long after he and the rest of his species survives. I imagine she'd be able to cast dark magic spells similarly to Aaravos as he did with Viren perhaps ironically she becomes the "Avatar" of the Dragon prince not because she learned the sources but because she understands the nature of sacrifice, the ultimate parallel to her in the beginning, she now knows what sacrifices she's willing to make for her goals. Maybe he's grooming her to be the ultimate dark mage. We know Dark magic leaves residual magic in you from Viren and his mentor, maybe she'll have enough residual darkness at the end of her journey to form a true connection to darkness. We know stars is all about connection and Aaravos uses his star magic to connect to Callum and manipulate him, maybe Darkness is seperation not just dividing things with hate but the infinite gap between things the darkness in space. Maybe he'll even teach her stars, so she can divide and combine with love and hate, the ultimate combination, as it seems that with the resurection spell star magic is the glue that stuck all the other components together. Maybe since Viren said that "Blood of child" was a deep magic spell Claudia performed it and now has the Dark Magic look maybe the original magic was Dark Magic all along, it's originally called deep but it was seen unfavorably and rebranded. This was so unbelievably shitty of the council to do... kill a scared child for wanting to help people (and people who are suffering, at that). Now I understand and don't blame Aaravos for not wanting his daughter's undeserved death to go unpunished, even though I can never condone the way he went about it. I think it would make a lot of sense and be interesting if the council were also villains in a way. And while Aaravos is still a villain, he would be trying to take down another villain. Like there's just so much I feel there is that the story is not telling us about this council and their "cosmic order". Killing Leola would not reverse the fact that humans now know some magic, so why did they do it? Whatever it is, it is definitely something that would tell us that these guys are, in reality, evil. Yes, Aaravos is messed up and needs to go down, but so do they, is my point. I think that's the right direction for his character.

A Startouch Elf, who can live forever by re-incarnating ... But when his Startouch Elf Daughter taught Humans how to do Dark Magic, which costs the life of others to do the magic of ... The Startouch Council permanently killed her and sent her along the Aether ... She would never return, and he had the choice to go die with her in that way ... But he chose not to, cause he wanted to do more ... Aarovos felt regret for centuries, even literally crying a lake in the World filling it up entirely with his tears ... Because of this pain, he found a new purpose ... And that was to cause chaos and even potentially destroy the World by manipulating the higher powers governing the World. And he will never stop until it is all over.
