The heartwarming thing about Janai signing, even though she signed the wrong thing, is that she made the attempt. Gren could have easily just translated it for her and Amaya could have easily just read her lips, but Janai made the attempt to do it in a way that Amaya could properly understand. And that is what makes it beautiful.

Seeing two lesbian characters getting the relationships treatment of straight relationships is all I ever wanted. And for those that know not of what I'm talking about, I mean seeing their relationship's focus being on their love and juuuust a bit on their racial/cultural differences, but NOT on them being two women. We are not led to think of them as two women in love, but two people in love regardless of their sexual orientation.And they did get some nice scenes showing their closeness emotionally and physically.No drama, no tragedy, maybe some discussions but not with hate in mind.Just two mature individuals who love each other threading the path of their relationship growing into something bigger. That?That you USUALLY do not see in works of fiction, or at least not in "children's shows".

Yeah! When Janai's brother said he didn't approve, I thought he meant of them both being women, not of them being an elf and a human. And I was like, "Oh, he's not homophobic, he's just racist. Which is also bad, but you know."

@@gretazimmerman8299 Funny thing is that in the end he actually was ok with them being together, just not "at that time" since his people basically lost their entire culture and he thought that the Queen marrying a human would pass the wrong message(or something).

@@Jan_Koopman If more shows treated queer relationships the same way they do straight ones(which means making the couple's sexuality a "no big deal" kind of thing and instead focusing on other aspects of it like "culture", "status" and such), maybe people(specially kids) would learn to not discriminate and soon most people wouldn't even bother with being bigots towards something that would be considered normal. It's when shows make the work of making it clear that queer relationships are VERY differente and "special" that creates this strangeness that makes people unable to see them as "just a relationship".

I was hoping that this was the season that they'd drop the unrealistic lip reading but I guess not. At least they dropped those gloves. It was almost impossible to read her spelling. Now hopefully they'll start using sign friendly camera angles.

Personally, I always found Amaya's portrayal as a deaf military commander was pretty unrealistic. She only had one interpreter who was missing for a good part of her scenes and her followers didn't seem to how know to sign. Also, in fantasy settings, leading an army often requires the commander to yell shout orders on the battlefield and she certainly can't sign commands if she's engaging in hand-to-hand combat or has a weapon in her hands, if Amaya could at least talk maybe it wouldn't be such a big deal, but the only time she's made a sound was when she was gasping for air. I think it would have been better if she was a scout commander rather than a general. Fantasy scouts are supposed to avoid making sounds and teams usually use hand signals to communicate at great distances. I'm not deaf and I don't know anyone in the deaf community, so if anyone disagrees feel free to correct me.

Generals in old armies didn’t rely on direct commands. That’s why flags and trumpets are used.

@@DonMo999 Maybe, but fantasy battlefields tend to follow their own guidelines and as the commanding officer, Amaya, would probably still need to relay tactics in the war room and the only people who seem to understand sign language in the series are her family members and her interpreters. She only seems to have the one interpreter directly under her command and he was absent for the better part of the series, so how exactly would she have been able to talk strategy with her fellow commanding officers, if something were to happen to him? Plus, I haven't seen either flags or trumpets being used in the series.
