"I don't need to mention (the makeup/costuming), it's always at a high standard." I actually feel like more reactors SHOULD mention those things because Voiceplay pay so much attention to the details that it makes their videos like mini-movies, and that deserves appreciation. They hire makeup artists who do fantastic work, but the design of what they want to look like is figured out in advance, and most of the costumes are put together by Production Manager Kathy. Voiceplay buy or build their own set pieces, Eli designs the lighting, whichever member is directing does the set design, all the equipment is hauled around and put in place by these guys, and of course the arrangements and performances are their own creation. The fact that they continue to put out such high quality stuff every month, all on their own, is amazing!

Everything about this video makes it one of my favourites. Poor Cesar was suffering for his art wearing very heavy chain mail. He had to keep lying down between takes to ease his shoulders. Geoff said later that he wished he'd known you could get artificial chain mail. :). The atmospherics is superb in this isn't it?

I so love Geoffs bassline, with the arpeggios, in this video.
@johndeeregreen4592Ай бұрын
Bass singing with arpeggios tends to make the lines easier to do... not the way Geoff did them, though. It was almost like sweep picked arpeggios on a guitar, but done with the voice and in bass register.

Geoff's coloratura there does precisely that to me what it just did to you. I'm like, kiss me goodbye, I'm dead.

Did you have the subtitles on? I couldn't tell. It helps, with VoicePlay. Here it explains that they are speaking Dovahzul, the Dragon Tongue, during the last 2/3rds of the song. They learned the language. I mean, you can tell when someone is speaking a language versus when they're mimicking it, and they spoke it! This also has one of my favorite Voiceplay openings! Kudos on noticing the sword sharpening sound at the beginning. A LOT of reactors don't notice it, or don't feel it's worth mentioning if they do! (Silly reactors! EVERYTHING in VoicePlay song is worth mentioning!) 💙

I believe you’ve said it all concerning Voiceplay’s video. But I can give you an insight into their generous natures. Every so often, Voiceplay has a patrons only charity auction, with everything except shipping costs going to a music and/or children’s charity. They’ve raised thousands of dollars that way. Sometimes a single item can go for $1K or more. All of the costumes from this video are now in the homes of patrons around the world who - I’m sure - cherish them.

I think this was my 2nd VoicePlay song and it is so gorgeous.
@hwyla4416Ай бұрын
I especially love the way they show a story in this one. In comes the new person to the hall - apparently with news. Then each person already in the hall ‘notices’ him and adds a line of song. Each separate from the others. After that gorgeous line where Omar sounds like an angel, in comes the ‘god lighting’ - those flares of light. But at the same time, each character gets up and moves while all the voices begin to blend together. It’s as if they are all talking at once, discussing this new info while meandering into a line, where they are then not separate, but now a formed group. I just love the way they gave us that little bit of story, both visually and musically.
@hwyla4416Ай бұрын
Forgot to say - I see that ‘god lighting’ as when inspiration and decision hits them. That’s when they begin to coalesce.

Really enjoy your reaction/analysis (you get giddy over music like I do). This is the song where I realized how pretty Geoff's voice actually is. VP usually releases one full production video and a couple of minis every month .Minis/shorts are tiny fun filled treasures themselves and maybe be straight a Capella, game/movie/tv show themes , popular music, barbershop style or just sound effects where they are working out new things. When I first "collided" with VP I went to the beginning of their channel and worked my way forward. What a Ride!

I hope you do keep reacting to Voiceplay. I've been watching reactors for about 5 years. Seems like when they are building the channel they always cover them then until they get enough followers then they drop them.

Home Free, Pentatonix, and Voice Play are the holy trinity of a capella.
@judithboulden3456Ай бұрын
Voiceplay, then maybe Home Free, then PTX for me.
@GaiaOneАй бұрын
@judithboulden3456 Nah, gotta have Home Free first. The other bands are superb, but Home Free is in a class by themselves. They're a bit more versatile. They are pretty much the only a capella vocal band that sings country, and they can slide into any other genre you throw at them. I mean, really. They wrote a theme for a video game, they do great humorous videos, their collaborations are top-notch, their mashups are wonderful, their originals are lovely. They absolutely own their covers. They did both the Butts Remix and Nessun Dorma. That right there is a hell of a reach. I think I have the order right. But these three groups are undoubtedly the best there is. Nobody else in the a capella world can touch them.
@sharonbapp9613Ай бұрын
I really think that PTX lost a little something when Avi left. Their shows are big production of course but something is gone. Voice play manages to remain fresh in so many different ways. Incredible talent and hard work. I love Homefree as well but give Voiceplay an edge

Cesar's diction, so crisp and clean? You need to react to their version of Drunken Sailor. it is all amazing, but he has a tongue twister like line in it that is fantastic. Trust me, you will love the whole thing!!! Now, about this one. I am very old and not a gamer, but it made no difference. The arrangement, performance and production is wonderful. Eli's lighting is really lovely. And the next one....... hold on!!

I feel like I say this every time I comment on a reaction video, but my favorite thing about a reaction is the things that I learn from the different reactors. Geoff's ending consonants in this song are gentle to the point that I didn't even notice them until you pointed them out. And I've lost track of how many times I've listened to this song either straight through on its own from their site or listening to different people react. And yet still this is something that I had not noticed before. I'm sure there are other things that you pointed out that I hadn't noticed, but that's the one thing that sticks out to me right now. Voiceplay always makes it look so easy, don't they? But as you said, they are masters of their craft.
