Interesting discussion. I recently picked up Among the Dead Cities by AC Grayling, which deals with the same topic. By the way, beautiful bookcases!

I appreciate it. I'm trialling a new type of bookcase at the moment so remain hopeful of an advance. Yes I watched your video that talked about the Grayling book. It would be nice to have a look at a copy - but might have to be #historathon2025 Q4 ? I'm currently plum in the middle of the causes of WWI and literally have to read my way into a more inclusive appreciation of the whole thing. I've looked at Peter Hart 1914-18, Michael Howard and Hew Strachan but there are others heading out from the other side like Herwig.

I havent read much at all on ww2 but I do remember singling out Moral Combat when I was trying out different ones to make a short list for some day in the future.

Funnily enough Amazon(UK) is not very good for finding things. The Beevor book did appear early on in my search, Churchill's version in an abridged edition appeared a little later, and at last the OUP _A Very Short History of WWII_ ... at least this one has been written by Gerhard L Weinberg! None of the others in this video are in sight! I mean how many pages does anyone click through in a search for something: my search terms were 'History of WWII second world war'.
