Great review Andy. The one thing you didn’t touch on was sound & feel. I have a Mizuno STZ and I love the look, sound & feel of it. I arguably have never hit a driver better than the G425 Max, but never put it in the bag because I never loved the sound & feel of it.

Thanks for the review Andy! I have replaced my complete Mizuno set last year by the JPX923 Hot Metal irons, T24 wedges and STz230 Driver/woods/hybrids. That was a serious investment which I am very happy with!! My STz230 driver works great for me. 😁👍I simply can't afford to change my clubs with the speed the manufacturers bring out 'new' editions. Next new driver will be over 6 years or so....

Played Mizuno drivers for ages now. JPX 825, Gt 180 and ST220Z. The improvement over the years has been incredible. Tempted to upgrade again after this review.

Great numbers, and great timing with this video. I did a fitting yesterday, tried all the new drivers including the Mizuno. For me, it outperformed all of them, except for the Titleist TSR3. Even there it was a very close second, less than yard behind. The TSR3 was more consistent for me, tighter dispersion. Well done Andy.

Got to agree with you Andy. That is a stunning looking driver and would certainly suit my game. Unfortunetly I bought a new driver 18 months ago and at the rate I play, it will be another 10 years before I'm due to upgrade. I've had a JPX driver in the past and it was a beast, but difficult to control. They really have come a long way, and all the improvements ought to put them in the top 5 drivers on the market today.

That is outstanding Andy..... Great numbers with that driver. My understanding is the shaft length is 1/2 " long which is something Taylor Made has been doing for years to bump up club head speed. Great review!!

exactly what I needed to see Andy ! Been looking out for a new driver, been gaming Mizuno for over 10 years from wedge to driver and this time I was hesitating to shop elsewhere for the big dog. TSR2 and Ping G425 Max - yes, the old one - were the ones I was looking into at the moment but this might change my mind and stay with Mizuno ! 🙂

Are you hitting stiff shafts? With your clubhead speed maybe a regular shaft. It may straighten you out and give you a little more carry. Most pros I have talked to recommend regular shafts under 100 MPH.

this is actually a reg shaft and there is plenty to suggest a stiff shaft would help performance and dispersion, I would never let swing speed alone be the factor in shaft choice, it plays a part but many more considerations 👍

"Stiff" also varies from brand to brand, for instance a "regular" Oban shaft might actually be stiffer than say a "stiff" Accura. Off the shelf shafts are notoriously all over the place, especially if they haven't been "pured" which no stock shaft ever is.

Love the videos Andy. I am stuck between the STZ 230 and the ST Max. I currently play the STZ 220 which l love as it has helped stop my shots going left. I am just wondering do u think the ST Max launches and spins too much compared to the STZ 230. I hit the ball high at the min with about 2500 spin so not sure what one to go for. Thanks

Love the look of it! I don’t need a driver but I would sure love to try it, some of those drives into the 260s for you is excellent. And it’s less money than some of the other companies out there screaming forgiveness. If I ever decide to change this year Count me in I’m trying it!

Hmmm...it's been a couple of models since I've tried Mizuno...I think it was the Z, with sliding weights all over the place. Mizuno has definitely upped their driver game! So far it kind of seems like 2024 drivers are eliminating more of the sliding weights in lieu of fixed weights? Generally. Anyway, those numbers look great....sooooo....does this beat out the Mini Driver for you?? I've decided to go with shorter length woods this year as an experiment, and even built out a driver shaft a tad under 44 ... we'll see how it goes once my part of the globe thaws out...until then it's just me tinkering for the sake of tinkering. :)

The shaft on that particular driver from Mizuno has a little bit longer shaft, thats probably the reason for the extra speed and distance.

Yes its a great driver and I have it in my bag - BUT - I also just finished playing 3 rounds with the new PXG driver (Black Ops) and it is also extremely good and seems to be even more forgiving.

So I recently watched several of your PING comparisons as I was thinking of the new 10K model but after watching every PING MAX driver vlog of yours since the G400..they've all fallen short of the G400 MAX. Interestingly enough, 6 years ago the PING G400 MAX avg'd 242 yards carry with an avg 266 total yards and 3 drives at or over 270 yards. None of the other PINGS could match this year after year (6 years to be exact). The MIZUNO ST MAX avg'd 230 yards carry and 265 avg total with 2 drives running out to 260 and 1 to 267 yards total. You were 6 years younger and thus swinging quicker but you seem to be hitting most drivers the same and I wasn't comparing swing speeds. You hit the PING G430 MAX 10K the shortest of all the carry distances at 225 yards. All in, besides having the newest driver every year they are not and cannot increase distance in the technology of the driver within the existing tolerances. Dispersions were all within acceptable comparisons. My takeaway..my PING G400 MAX is staying in the bag and the money saved is buying me more rounds of golf and more beers with the Boys ⛳🍻😎 I do appreciate your reviews tho. We hit about the same distances so they're very relatable 👍🏽

You have to define better, certainly as good as any other driver tested and quite possibly the best yes, but it’s not as straightforward as ‘better numbers’ there are many factors to consider

I rate the videos and The Average Golfer in general, but this video is at odds with his recent video about the new 2024 Ping driver. Ultimately this is all a money making racket on golf equipment. It’s marketing more than anything else, ultimately the best improvements you can make year on year is in the mirror.

In the Ping video, the main message, at least to me, was that there wasn't a measurable difference between the 2023 and 2024 releases. This is almost certainly true for most drivers released in 2024. Most of the time, the human element of the golf swing is a much bigger factor in the differences in yardages and dispersion than the actual improvements in technology in the clubs year on year. Either way, just my thoughts-I'm a fan of your content and will continue to be.

At a cost of £500- !!! Don't think so. Sound fundamentals and improving technique outweighs new drivers. STG are more important than driver distance.
