I’m in the US and I had a strange experience trying to buy absinthe at a publix liquor store. I asked if they had some and the woman at the counter reacted as if I told her I was looking for meth. I thought she was gonna call the cops on me until I provided google proof that it’s not illegal. So apparently the misconception is very common in places where the liquor is legal.
@acisverycool7 ай бұрын
i’m pretty sure it was only legalized in the 2000s so it’s understandable for people to think it’s still illegal
@Zpicismrad7 ай бұрын
the thing with absinth is, contents of wormwood are so low (and they always were even in 1700's) are so low that it has no psychoactive effect, it's basically a flavoring. In order to consume enough of wormwood from absinth for it to have any psychoactive effects, you would have to drink so much of it you would die (we are talking several pints of above 70% grade alcohol). So, if you are seeking absinth with expectations of some spiritually elevating high, don't bother, you'll only get drunk off of it. All the stories about writers and artists using its "magical" properties centuries ago are just myths and legends, it's just another type of booze.
@CarterTheGinger7 ай бұрын
They set regulations on how much Wormwood (Thujone) can be added to absinthe, which is very low to none, since that was what produced hallucinogenic effects.

There is no worse feeling, at least for me, to lay in bed at 1 a.m. after being awake for 3 days, being tired as hell but still not being able to sleeo because you took to much Ritalin. It's horrible, really. You shut down and you have 0 interest in socializing. Your grandma could be lying on her death bed and you still wouldn't be interested in visiting her and being there for her in her last hours. Please don't underestimat this drug. I did, became heavily addicted to it and regretted it heavily. If you read this and are currently taking Ritalin recreationally/ not as prescribed by your doctor: Please rethink what you're doing. They can't keep up with the crazy amount of new prescriptions, and the government and pharm companies are pointing their fingers at each other about the issue, companies blaming regulations for not being able to boost production and the government saying they're not even at full production and holding capacity anyway. Huge friggin' mess. Hate it. I was also out in Ritalin when I was younger and I have trichotillamania. To sum it up: the Ritalin made the trich 10x worse and I had to get taken off of it. I tried it again later on as I got older but only got the same results I did when I was younger: worsened trich. I’m on Adderall now, which has been a HUGE game changer! I’m more productive, less depressed, and I don’t feel the need to have as much caffeine as I normally do (unless I absolutely feel it’s necessary or I’m just craving a monster or coffee). But it sucks that there’s a shortage because people who don’t need them would rather use them instead of letting the people who actually need them be able to get them easier. It sucks having to call in a prescription or wait an extended period of time, it’s genuinely a medication that has worked so well for me and doesn’t trigger my trichotillamania.

Another reason absinthe has the reputation it does (and you're not misremembering, until relatively recently it was illegal almost everywhere), is that back in the day it was spiked with laudanum, a highly potent opiate. Additionally, it became so popular in France that it became the target of a smear campaign by the wine industry, so many of the horror stories are actually propaganda. Absinthe is pretty great if you like the taste of Jagermeister.

Friendly reminder to try all new drugs with caution. Drug allergies and intolerances are way more common than people would think. What is fine for someone else might be dangerous for you. I’m personally intolerant to amphetamines, which I didn’t find out until I took some adderall and ending up in the hospital because my heart was going wild and I was projectile vomiting. My mom is also severely allergic to opioids, which she found out when she was dosed with morphine after a car accident and had to have her stomach pumped. Always have someone that can get you help if something goes wrong!!

Just a bit of expansion on opium, the reason it was highly used for so many thousands of years relatively safely, was because the seeds were ground and smoked, as compared to heroin which is injected. There's a reason why early-mid 1900 drawings of opium dens were made with such a thick haze. And that's why heroin is relatively much more dangerous than smoking opium. I say RELATIVELY because smoking opium is STILL dangerous, highly addictive, and will still create hallucinations if used.

And I gradually became more and more addicted, nowadays I take it bc my psychiatrist prescribed it for me but I really wanted to quit... But it's so hard 😭 Btw I hate how clonazepam addiction is so normalised in my country, it's the most popular prescription drug here in Brazil and a considerable percentage of adults here are addicted to clonazepam... They make it so trivial, my parents also struggle with the same addiction and my dad's coworkers talk about it in such a casual way ☠ It baffles me tbh, we have an epidemic of benzo addiction but nobody does something to stop it 😔

@@kypej I don’t really notice a specific feeling, it just makes it so my pain isn’t as bad as it would be. Here is me story, sorry that it is so long: I was having a lot of abdominal pain and constipation and so I missed a lot of school. And so I went to numerous doctors and had numerous tests and they would pretty much all come back normal, which was very frustrating, in fact, one doctor suggested that the pain I was having was all in my head and my mom should be hospitalized because she was getting so stressed and worried for “believing me” needless to say we never went back to see her. I finally went to a wonderful pediatric gastroenterologist (Dr Janet Harnsberger) and she had me do a Sitz Marker Study (it’s where I swallowed a clear capsule with 20 rings in it that show up on x-rays) and so after I had an x-ray every day for a week, the X-ray showed that all 20 rings were still in my colon, so I was diagnosed with Colonic Inertia, I’m sure she did other tests but I don’t remember, I was 13 years old, so she suggested an amazing surgeon who knew a lot about Colonic Inertia (Dr Merrill Dayton) he was so awesome (I wish that he was still my doctor and hadn’t retired!) So I had a total colectomy (my entire colon was removed) and the small bowel was attached to my rectum. I was fine for a while but eventually all the pain came back, it turned out that the cause was my rectum, it was Rectal Inertia, so at about 16 years old, they removed my rectum and made a j-pouch, and I had a temporary ileostomy until that healed, then he connected the small bowel to the j-pouch, unfortunately it wasn’t very long before the pain came back again, so I had to have the ileostomy again. After a while I wanted to try to have it reversed because I didn’t really like having it, well obviously my surgeon thought/knew it wouldn’t work, but I really wanted to have it reversed and I basically begged him, so he told me that he would do it, but if it doesn’t work and all my pain came back, he wouldn’t reverse it again, so I agreed, and of course after having it reversed, it wasn’t very long before the pain did come back, so I now have a permanent ileostomy. I’m 42 years old now and I pretty much have inertia throughout my entire digestive system, and I live with chronic abdominal pain.
