I am sure I enjoyed watching this more than you enjoyed being out there fighting that muck. Thank you for the sacrifices you make for us. 😄

Where ever there is a drained lake or pond, you can pretty much count on us getting stuck in it if given the opportunity

Good recovery! Were there an area previous inspection? If not, "You have more balls than Espartero’s horse"

Yeah, they were down in there clearing out trees, so they must have known. You'll have to find a metaphor that incorporates tiny brains my friend

If I had actually made a plan of what my path was before I dove in, might have avoided getting stuck. Tricky bit was that ground that was firm enough to walk on quickly gave way to the sticky, soft, slippery clay underneath when driven upon.

You'd think it'd have to be with how often we find ourselves in this situation. Closer to the opposite though.

@@jasonchall3766 totally, last time at least we got a good blast through the mud before we got stuck. Relatively quick recovery also.

Hey mate, going off your knowledge and experience with Subaru Foresters and looking at all models and series created between 97 and 2012, which would you believe, either stock or with very little modification, would perform the best off-road? Thanks for your time.
@powerofyourbrains
@powerofyourbrains 4 жыл бұрын
This may not be the answer you're wanting, but the cheapest one that you care the least about is going to perform the best. Easiest models to do suspension work are 97 to 07, as later models have a multilink setup that limits your lift options. Avoid 97 to 99 if you can - these models (SF phase 1) have an inferior motor that isn't compatible with various components such as vtd from later model years. Watch out for rust too, and take measures to prevent it from developing before you go out and start scraping up the underside. Hope that helps.

I'm gonna add on to that and say facelift SG, 05 to 07. SGs have high spring perches from the factory, so you can fit bigger tires. Its also got a super strong chassis on it. Its got the EJ253, which is probably the best naturally aspirated EJ25 subaru made. Creature comforts are nicer than the SFs, ans will likely be less rusty. Only real issue is the washer fluid and "snorkus" on the intake are in the front bumper, so you'd have to relocate those.
@itame101
@itame101 4 жыл бұрын
@@TylerScranton so even if you could pick up an 08/09 model with the higher ground clearance for the same price, you would still choose the facelift sg model over it?
@TylerScranton
@TylerScranton 4 жыл бұрын
@@itame101 Absolutely. The SG is smaller still, ans i believe has better departure /approach angles. And actually , look at the pre-facelift SG as well. Its way easier to find EJ251s if need be, and the exhaust is less of a pain (catalytic converters on the exhaust manifold on the 253). I personally like the pre-facelift style more anyway Really, day to day, the only big advantage of the 253 is that it keeps power in the higher range. On any used Subi, keep an eye out for rust though. Especially on the rear strut towers under the carpet. Ask me how I know.

I gotta be that guy... why not use the winch?
@powerofyourbrains
@powerofyourbrains 4 жыл бұрын
Fair question. Our winch was not anywhere near powerful enough to move the car even a little from the pit we fell in. I mean, our hi-lift (a bar of solid steel) actually bent trying to jack up the car from the clay bed
