I'm not British but I feel you, this seems very inaccurate to the UK. But I doubt the writers cared about accuracy and just wanted a "quirky" dog movie. Also yeah, this should have been animated. It's another spectacular cheesefest of a trainwreck, but as you noted, the female love interest is not a poodle. They might be my favorite breed but I can recognize they're not supposed to be used all the time. Also, I'm all for interbreed love stories, especially when the female side isn't what might be interpreted as conventionally attractive. A squat, loose-skinned, floppy-eared Bassett is what might have been known as a handsome woman in earlier times, doughty and basic, probably portrayed in human form as a plump, plain peasant lady who bakes pies and always wears something on her head from a kerchief to a nightcap. I would sacrifice a million chew toys for a movie that reverses the genders and has a competent male poodle as the hero, or even the love interest. Make him outrageously French and make him effette in manner so long as he's kind of butch in action scenes and not a stock laughingstock. And have the love interest be something distinctly not a poodle. Like a tough but sweet pittie (I've owned a pit and raised three others for a neighbor, they were all cuddly little things), an unsophisticated but sincere Cajun blue tick hound (it makes for great French vs French-influenced comedic romance), a gangly gentle giantess great Dane, a hyperactive corgi. Or a cat, just go full Bolt.

Yes they do. Some hunt them as a means for meat, fur pelts, bone, and glue as examples. Others hunt them to protect domestic animals raised for consumption or product use. Farmers have got to protect their chickens and their goats. Granted there are people that hunt them for trophies and as part of some odd traditions.

In a more modern example, a Great Pyrenees dog was once elected as mayor in a town in the State of Minnesota. So, while the premise is stupid, there is historical precedent for such a thing. Also, no, the name "Cavendish" does not come from the name of the banana breed. It's a well-established name in England, often associated with the upper classes, and the most famous person with this name is Henry Cavendish, the scientist who discovered Hydrogen, and who lived from 1731 to 1810. The House of Cavendish is also one of the most notable aristocratic families in Britain, being the family of the Dukes of Devonshire and Newcastle. Additionally, since this movie appears to take place in the present day, why are they fox-hunting? Fox-hunting is illegal in the U.K. !
