Performing the deadlift with two dumbbells requires a deeper setup position than the traditional barbell deadlift. Ensuring the dumbbells do not swing away from the body requires tension and control from the musculature of the upper back. As with many of the major lifts, learning to execute this movement well, regardless of the equipment used, will aid in developing well-rounded capacity.

The variation of dumbbells is extremely useful for a small person like me kzbin.infoUgkxP26Tir6n60vUkdtn4mbwhRO8cwuJQNy2 But the dumbbell size being large it's hard to do certain exercises like deadlift ( I have to have my hands and legs a bit wider to accommodate the size of the DB )Otherwise happy with the purchase. No excuse not to lift weight when it's snowing outside.

Think I'm probably going stick with a hex bar for deadlifts. I bought some moulds for concrete plates. I can also use it for shrugs and shoulder presses!

If it is more comfortable, you can also put the dumbbells between your legs instead of outside your legs. I find that I can achieve better bracing and tension with the dumbbells between my legs.

Those who can only workout at home and only have dumbbells / don't have the cash to spend on a barbell. Not everyone can afford it, or is able to go to a gym.

No. Train hip hinging first until you get the hang of loading your posterior chain. Sorry for the unsolicited advice but I do work in the fitness industry, I'm just here to link this video's url for a client

Use the biggest plates possible on the DBs (instead of numerous smaller ones) and put them on weight plates. It helps when you don't have to reach too low to grab the bars

Dumbbell deadlifts are excellent target exercises for the glutes and lower body. Performing a dumbbell lift is ideal for lifting in spaces with storage constraints, where dumbbells are the most feasible option. Dumbbells are also a good choice for doing sets with lower weights when learning form is needed, such as people just starting out with lifting.

This model and video aren't very good, there's too much bending at the knee instead of hinging at the hip. This is more of a deadlift/squat hybrid instead of a true deadlift.

This is good traditional deadlift form, especially with dumbbells in the frontal plane. Sounds like you are describing more of a Romanian or stiff-legged deadlift, with more emphasis on the hip hinge, slight knee bend, pulling with the glutes and hamstrings

Yeah, not sure you know what you're talking about. Hip height and then lifting varies from person to person. I used to be a high hip deadlifter, but in my older age (30's) it's been easier on me to drop the hips a little more, which tends to be how professional powerlifters deadlift anyway.

Very confusing at first sight, but key things to pinpoint is that a squat has your ass going straight down while a deadlift has your ass backwards and out instead of going down.
