At the 1999 Las Vegas Bowl, the Fresno State Bulldogs played the Utah Utes. However, the original plan that bowl organizers wanted was to have BYU play in the game; BYU eventually played in the Motor City Bowl. And the reason why BYU didn't play in the Las Vegas Bowl that year? You can blame some of the most incompetent and lazy bowl organizers and officials ever for completely fumbling the bag. The video missed a huge part of why Utah got the Vegas nod. The MWC was really lobbying hard for Utah to get the Vegas nod. That would free up BYU to get an large bid to take on undefeated Marshall in Detroit. Since the MWC only had 2 guaranteed bids, BYU needed to be the one to without a guaranteed bid, since it was unlikely Utah or CSU would be able to get an at large bid. This meant more money for the conference.

They didn't make that 30 second call because they knew JG8 would need a content piece 23 years later. That's the only logical explanation.

Yea this was when they had their Dinner Bibs jerseys. Dumbest, ugliest jerseys. This was also when byu decided they wanted a new shade of blue instead of the blue they used forever.

Yeah, the bibs were thankfully one and done...not sure whether they're still trying to pass the navy they're using off as "Darkest Shade of Royal Blue" (I wish I was making that up)

Utah not only got the Las Vegas Bowl bid and beat BYU that year but one of Utah’s cheerleaders beat up a BYU fan who stormed the field. Leading Steve Smith (yes that Steve Smith) to quip “Even our cheerleaders are kicking your ass.”

The 1999 Thundering Herd went 13-0 overall (8-0 MAC), and was ranked tenth in the AP and Coaches polls. QB Chad Pennington was named MAC Offensive Player of the Year. (Byron Leftwich was their backup QB.)

I remember this. My family are all Utes fans and it was hilarious that Utah got invited to Vegas but BYU didn’t (ask any Utah fan how they feel about BYU, or any BYU the same about Utah, and you’re going to get an earful). We just enjoyed the bowl game and laughed at the Zoo’s expense.

Wife and I were driving on State street in SLC the other day. Two different cars on side streets pulled right out in front of us forcing us to hit brakes. We were not in a right turn only lane, I never signaled. The Ute stickers on their cars explained all. ;)

Craig Palmer's music was huge during the 1980s; NFL Films (among others) used it during that time. (I discovered it when Dave Volsky had many of Craig Palmer's tracks on his defunct NFL Films Music channel on KZbin.)

@@CTubeMan Yes. I contributed roughly 300 tracks from the beginning in 2014. I (and I'm sure lots of people) still miss his channel. Just before he had to shut it down (thanks but no thanks, NFL), I had 25-30 tracks ready to send to him. Since the shutdown, I found two channels that have a few of Dave's videos: GODZILLAROCKS and Dave Volsky's Back Door (formerly just Back Door).

I lived in Kansas City Missouri for 27 years. There is a large population of Mormons there especially in Independence Missouri. They'll come to your door day after day after day. I wonder if that's why every time I see BYU on TV in any sport I cheer for the other team.
