Just wondering if you know that the sea level has been rising VERY CONSISTENTLY for the time period we've measured it accurately. It is not all of a sudden a HUGE problem. If we were to raise the existing dikes by a meter or 2, we'd probably be safe for the next 100 years.

The "massive sea dike" is not actually intended to keep the water out. It is intended to be permeable to water; all it does is break the strength of the waves so the shore does not get pounded as badly. Since the water behind the dike will not be as turbulent, any sediment that passes through the dike will settle there, slowly raising the ground level behind the sea dike over the course of a century or so. Once it has come up high enough, it will be a simple matter to turn it into more useful land. After that we just repeat, until eventually the UK and Ireland become part of the Netherlands as well. For an even more megalomaniac plan, look up the Northern European Enclosure Dam.

I believe that on the battle against climate change everything is TOO focused on emission reduction. It's important yes but from what I see happening it's already way too late. In recent years so many projections on temperature rise, precipiation, ice melting etc. have turned out to be wrong. Sometimes completely unexpected effects show and most of the times the projections were overtaken by reality in pace. We need to cut down emissions yes but it won't do anything to STOP climate change. Especially considering that only rich countries focus much on that topic. The most populous places often lie in the third world, where pollution of any kind is a big issue. Only now the Western countries are really panicing and trying to do things in a couple of years that would have been necessary decades ago. Besides emission reduction we now need to focus on reduction of poverty and political instability globally. And the most important part is to COPE with and prepare for the effects of climate change, which are already very apparent in Europe.

@j.p.vanbolhuis8678 Жыл бұрын

So if sea levels are rising “allegedly” why is Florida not building sea defences in the Everglades?
@IanBurnette Жыл бұрын
Three reasons: 1) The Netherlands only works because they've drained the swamp and pumped all that water into the rivers, which then raises the river level to match the sea while also providing solid ground to build/farm on. You couldn't really do the same in the Everglades without destroying them. 2) The Netherlands has 508 people/km2 compared to Florida's 136/km2. This means that the cost of any sea defense is going to cost an individual Floridian almost 5 times as much as it costs an individual Dutch person. The economics just don't make sense for a sparsely populated state like Florida. I think the big cities like Miami and Orlando *will* start to invest in sea defenses in the coming years. 3) Yankee Boomers migrated to the state and keep voting for climate change deniers. They have fixed income and none of their family lives in Florida, so why would they vote to raise taxes and protect the state 50-100 years from now? They'll be long dead and their descendants will still be safe in Ohio or New York. People fail to plan for completely foreseeable disasters all the time-- I mean every hurricane season people wind up dying because they don't take evacuations seriously
@bakker071 Жыл бұрын
@@IanBurnette wow you are full of crap, we can close down our sea entries, when there is a northwestern storm. Northwestern storms are the only reason we build our sea walls, look at the geography. The biggest problem with this whole system is that the water has to go somewhere, so if the Netherlands protects itself then northern Germany and Belgium will flood.
@jasonhaven7170 Жыл бұрын
@@stewartoneill8419 You know if Belgium floods, it will flood the Netherlands from underneath?
@RealConstructor Жыл бұрын
I don’t see a problem here. They can take care of themselves and build flood defenses also, or move people to higher grounds. We can’t, we don’t have enough higher grounds to house all these people from the Randstad 😮. And I don’t think Limburg, Gelderland and parts of Brabant, Overijssel and Drenthe want all those leftish know-it-alls from the Randstad destroying their culture.
@jasonhaven7170 Жыл бұрын
@@RealConstructor Their culture doesn't need protecting, the world would be better off if they got subsumed by "Randstad" culture.
@RealConstructor Жыл бұрын
@@jasonhaven7170 Yes that’s the arrogance of leftish Randstad people. Nothing’s lost if it submerged. I’m only sorry for people living in the Green heart of the Randstad. Like myself. But I’m willing to sacrifice myself in order to shift the balance more to the provincial regions, away from the Randstad.
once again survival of the most adaptable to changes

I can sometimes be persuaded to watch an ad, but Masterworks sounds shadier than Established Titles. At the very least, you're exposing your viewers, to potential financial loss.

Honestly, you'd think the Dutch would have formed a military union to fight nations who aren't stopping their carbon emissions

As I'm arguing for a while, the Dutch should be kinder towards the Eastern Europeans.

I think they plan on buying a mountain of stone from the Swiss to make a new coastline. As there is no stone in the Netherlands, if you skip over the boulders the gletchers left here.

Maybe building the sea full of windturbines and floating seaweed farms will also reduce storm damage…

You're videos are really really good. Please stop being so Dutch and only talking about Dutch things. I don't know how to describe it but it colors every video. It is a good thing but it can be too much too.

For the people not knowing Dutch, the dutch words are said in a Rotterdamish accent if I heard it correctly. So not everyone talks like that.

If the low lying under sea level land was fully filled with soil, clay, gravel etc..... In theory at least, the low level could be back filled above any expected sea level rises
