Ok so no one will sound like Tony Washington. That's a given. I remember Valerie Simpson telling me one night at the Sugar Bar,".....Tony was before his time...". Think of how brave he was to be out there and to be OPENLY gay...Don Cornelius was sort of dismissive towards him when the group performed the song on Soul Train back in the day. back then our lead singers in groups were robust men...Dennis Edwards, Eddie Levert, L.J.Reynolds, Theodore Pendergrass - even the cats that sang falsetto - Eugene Record, Ron banks, William Hart, Leroy Burgess, Ron Banks - these cats were undeniably macho. Tony was very brave to put himself out there and decide to be who he was no matter what the cost. Motown was equally as brave in signing them. My problem with this clip is that they look like tired old fat men just going through the motions...yes we all age with time...but fellas...rolled up sleeves and tight shirts showing guts? The lead singer has a phone hanging off his belt? No you could have looked a lot better guys....I don't care how hot it is....put on jackets and hide those guts.
@missyoli72669 жыл бұрын
+Carlton J. Smith That's what most men their age looks like. They are old and fat, So are most of the r&b singers from that era, men and women. I'm sure they have regular jobs and occasionally get together to do events. I think they should keep the routines down to just side to side with a couple of hand motions. I take my hat off to the OG's that pave the way for some of these no talent acts to make the insane amount of money they're making.
@MrCarltonjsmith9 жыл бұрын
miss yoli You are speaking the truth miss yoli...I just wish they tried to hide it a little better. I am the biggest James brown fan there ever was...but towards the end of his life he would always be out there with his jacket open like he had a six pack and it was just NOT a good look! But you are so right about the OG's I am blessed to have seen most of them live and I am hear to tell you...those days will never come back. A lot of these singers out here, now back in the day they wouldn't have been able to get work as background singers for Milli Vanilli much less have million dollar careers. Peace!

+Carlton J. Smith Carlton my Brother you and i go way back a little over 30 yrs but man i have to ask you why do you keep ragging on the older folks we're all going to get old older a lot of folks gain weight over the years with health reason,look at me i'm not as trim as i was 20 yrs ago and i'm not fat but yeah i have a stomach but hey i have a back injury so i can't work out like i did 15,20,30 yrs ago and play sports that's life man.Look at James Brown,he wasn't fit and trim like he was back in the days his voice was shot also.It's part of a life cycle that as we get older it's going to happen to you and i and many many others.Look at Dennis Edwards he's not on the slime side but he can still sing his ass off,Otis Williams he's not as thin as he used to be also and i'm sure he has health issues as well the same with Eddie Levert & Walter Williams they're in their 70's Eddie made a statement that arthritis is bothering him but he's going to keep singing until God calls for him also Walter he has major health problem but he's still doing it Hey Brother i'm just saying at least they're up there singing even though that's not the original lead singer.Stop disrespecting the older folks there's a heavyweight person in every family yours,mine etc,etc,etc but i bet you wouldn't rag on them now would you?LOL Brother i respect you but you did and said the same thing when i post that photo up of Steve Arrington we didn't care what we had on we partied it was great seeing him up on stage at B.B Kings we were there to hear him sing with his tight band we all had a great time watching him on stage you can't go around dissing every other acts who has gold,platinum records and traveled all over the world doing concerts they've paid their dues and at least they're not ashamed to get up on stage no matter what they look like? Holla at you later man
@MusicLoverPearson8 жыл бұрын
+miss yoli I totally agree with you everybody's going to look like that the men and woman look at Aretha we don't care about her wight or what she looks like we just want to hear her play the piano and sing her heart out,We want to see them sing no matter what they look like the legends are up there in age they've paid their dues through blood,sweat and tears to make it to the big time to win Grammy awards,have #1 records on the charts,earning gold and platinum albums and other Accolades during their 50-60 yrs in the business.If they got good and if they think that they don't have it anymore they won't record or do shows to make fools out of themselves. Now i don't know if those are the original member of that group but at least they're singing.

How can a group call themselves the Dynamic Superiors when George Spann is still alive. It's so unfortunate how people can take advantage of a group's name without respect for those who worked to establish the name and the group under Motown. These singers never sang with Motown and never produced any of the Dynamic Superior's original songs. This is bad business and exploitation at it's best. Much love to George Spann, one of the original Dynamic Superiors!

Good Afternoon. Mary Wilson of The Supremes helped get a bill passed The Truth In Rock act passed in congress. The bill helps protects the interests of legendary groups. The bill states that in order for a group to perform using a name of a legendary group they have to have at least 1 original member. The bill has been passed in several states and it helped out the original Marvelette Katherine Anderson-Schaffner who along with the estate of Gladys Horton was finally able to get ownership of The Marvelettes trademark after 40 years. Katherine reformed the group with 3 young ladies and perform as The Marvelettes featuring Original member Katherine Anderson Schaffner. The fakes Marvelettes now have to perform as a tribute group or revue.

Over 70% of the current growth in the music industry is attributed to the sales of older music and artists popular in the past. People love their gadgets and technology but their hearts are awash in nostalgia for a simpler and sweeter time. When it comes to groups trying to make $$ by taking on the name of some established group from the past it is us, the baby boomers, who create the demand for that. This is presented as a "tribute" but how many gigs are these men doing using the name Dynamic Superiors? I know their intention of honoring the group is probably sincere, but sometimes the results are neither dynamic nor superior. No offense guys, but this one doesn't work, even with one original member.
