Please make sure to sanitize everything involved in this process. There’s a reason sprouts get recalled at an alarming rate. That moist environment is heaven to all sorts of funky bacteria that can hurt you.

Yes, this! Also always rinse well beans, lentils, and rice before cooking or sprouting them! I also would use filtered water to soak or sprout rather than funky tap water that could have bacteria lurking in it from the plumbing ✨

If you can put a weighted lid right on top of the sprouts they will grow longer and thicker. I grow mine in an old salad spinner basket that I lost the top to sat into one of my stainless steel bowls with a small plate on top with either a mason jar full of water or like me my cleaned 2 pound handweights. Its a trick from Maangchi for sprouting soybeans. I also sprout sunflower seeds and wheat berries(for the cats they are in love with it) and even popcorn. But im not a big fan of the popcorn. Its so sweet it hurts your teeth! Lol. But I sprout them for the chickens and my grandkiddos rats. But mainly I do mung beans as they are my favorite. I might go start a batch of lentil as they sound lovely. Oh I also grow pea shoots but I use soil for those and they grow longer. And you can usually get a couple cutting from them. They rock in an omelet.

Have you ever had broccoli sprouts? They are my favorite, but I’ve never personally sprouted them. The seeds are tiny and not as readily available as lentils and mung beans.

If you're sprouting your own beans make sure to blanch them before eating. Also do not eat raw kidney bean sprouts.

Why not kidney bean sprouts?
@remjiedoronila7454 Жыл бұрын
@kevinAuman1 kidney beans have a toxin that can cause liver damage, nausea or vomiting especially if not fully sprouted yet.

@TengoWiskeyFoxtrot Жыл бұрын
I thought that too! But I did some research and, for me, it turned out that it was NOT mold, it’s called “root hairs” you know it’s that because it’s literally only on the little sprouted roots and when you rinse them for the day, those hairs lay back down. So, be careful but also, don’t throw out good sprouts by mistake 😊
