Hello, I'm not a senior (37) but I am new to golf and I've watched that many KZbin videos from various KZbin coaches. I was hooked on the Ben Hogan swing style but I've come to terms finally that it's never going to happen for me. I've just found this video talking about the vertical line system. This looks really good be and I think it's cc a swing I could easily do better at. Also as a side note the green line is bang on the line the sheet of glass depicted in the Ben Hogan fundamental book as in going from the golf ball right through the neck. Brilliant. Kris from UK

@@USGOLFTVshow Hi. So I've been on the course today trying to swing more vertical. I did a few decent 5 iron and 7 iron shots on the fairway. But I didn't do well with the driver at all off the tee. I just couldn't connect well. Topping or shanking the ball. And if I did connect with the ball it was a almighty embarrassing slice that landed on the opposite fairway. So not sure want I've done wrong. I sometimes suffer with slice but today was awful. So need to have a think what's gone wrong. Any idea?

After trying for a couple years to make the flatter Hogan type swing work I had a trusted instructor suggest that I go back to my natural vertical swing which looks allot like Craig Stadler. So being thick chested and now getting late 50s I tried it again but now I focus on the idea of trying to punch the ball with my right hand into impact. After some practice it has brought about more lag and speed, giving me that whip through the ball I'd been missing as a slight draw. Looking forward to springtime now

I am completely new to this swing but find it so body friendly and easy to execute. Being an oldie this swing eliminates rotation which I have always used and makes the swing more to my liking. It will take a little time to fully adjust to but suits me perfectly. I have always had a closed stance and shoulders in my old swing but to a larger degree than what you instruct. This reduced closure and the vertical swing is more to my liking and comfort. Will keep you posted on my progress. Thanks a bunch Todd this is something different but just what I need. Stay well.

Bob, you speak the truth my friend. As we age, the body does not move like it use to and therefor the swing needs to adjust. We all can play some great golf as we get older if we simply move the way the body wants to....keep up the great work and thanks for posting!

Great video Todd. I have just taken up golf 4 months ago. I have found more control with a shorter back swing after taking lessons and listening to buddies who all put all their might into the swing have tried to tell me different. I don't have a fast swing but I am finding more fairways lately than many others I have been golfing with. I started out getting around 65 on 9 holes and in 4 months I am now around 55 on nine on average. I stopped lessons after 2 because all it did was confuse me and messed up what I had going. I did what felt good to me and didn't care what others thought. It happened to be pretty much what this video shows. Great job and thanks for letting me know it's just fine doing what I do. :) Still getting better week by week happy to say. :)

After on from the other side of the world, Thank you for the video. Excellent!! In you VLS approach you appear to focus on the arm swing and the direction of that swing, as the key drivers. Body rotation or pivoting appear to be 'responsive' actions - no specific mention of 'turn' or 'tilt' or the blend of the two. Are my assumptions correct? Is the conscious focus almost exclusively on swinging the arms club unit on a more cretic all (Ferris wheel) type plane Pls comment. Thank you, Bill

Todd, I have the Vertical Line System but have a question. In the set-up, you advise to close your stance slightly right of the target line. I really feel like the vertical line swing is more natural and what the body is inclined to want to do. The other way feels forced and unnatural, in my opinion. For example, when I hit driver, I maybe have the driver go up not even 3/4, but am able to really get some good zip behind it. I think this is where teaching can go wrong. If you work on good fundamentals that are incorporated into a golfer's natural swing, then that's a win. I'm a huge proponent of this method, Todd. Excellent job!

@USGOLFTVshow2 жыл бұрын
Yes, spot on. We like the trail foot back and slightly flared, which helps the hip turn and promotes more of the in to out swing path. Important distinction: your stance will be slightly closed relative to your target line, but your club will still be square to the target line...this is a perfect recipe for a high draw!

Then I try to repeat it on the real swing and feel that it was more vertical, and it may be, a bit. But isn't really more vertical. So your concept is great, but please give us a PROCESS that would help change to the vertical swing. I finish vertically, but suffer from a horizontal backswing, which means a draw a lot, but since I take the backswing horizontally My hands are not coming up as they need to. I am 67 years old and an 8 handicap. My swing traditionally has been a very flat, around the body swing. As I have gotten more "experienced", I have been trying to make my swing more upright and vertical to lessen back strain as you have shown in your videos. My issue is that I have been struggling with push fades much more now. On the simulator, I am 2 to 3 degrees coming from the inside, but the clubface is open 5 to 6 degrees. I am tending to cup my left wrist more on the backswing than with my flatter swing. I have a strong left hand grip which cups the left wrist a bit anyway, but the more upright I swing, the more the push fade becomes an issue. suggestions?

Now, I am hitter flatter and can’t get the ball down range and am not hitting any greens. My 7 iron is a paltry 125 yards. I still have good range of motion and good club head speed. I am going back to my vertical. I am 69 years old and play 4 or 5 times a week.

Tony, thanks for asking. Note the line is as much for reference and visual as anything....hope that helps.

This is so ridiculous. No one teaches that flat of a swing and in your examples, your flat swing and vertical swing were almost identical. Teaching golfers to get LESS depth in their swing is just going to promote more slices. Awful video

As I am still new to golf I’ve struggled with swings and balance , I’ve had lessons where I’ve been taught to swing around the body , which has cured my lefthanded slice and while this has helped my drives it has hurt all my other clubs , would using the vertical swing method for woods , hybrids and irons and using around the body for driver be acceptable 🤷♂️🏌️♂️

This vertical swing concept doesn’t work for me. It’s causing me to chop at the ball. I’m sticking with the red line swing.

Appreciate you giving it a try. Did you do it for long?

@@USGOLFTVshow tried it at the driving range once and didn’t have any success. I prefer to keep my hands low around waste area during my back swing. Then up and around and down on the same single plane as best I can.
