You are 100% right! Majority of people complain about how expensive things are but keep buying WANTS not NEEDS! When you are older the same advice applies as for younger people. Only, you are taking more risk for less rewards as you have far less compounding and are more susceptible to timing risk OR need more bonds which provide lower returns.

There is still risk in the stock market. You can lose just as much as you gain. It is the long term that is low risk, but you gotta survive and have the capacity to feed it money over a long period of time for that to work. Banks aren't safe because they aren't in a good spot (foget the FDIC, they can't cover it all lol). Holding cash is the worse idea, money is losing value so fast it's insane. It's almost like if you do anything with your money it isn't safe. All it takes is a serious downturn and you are screwed. If our only hope of building wealth in the safest way is the using the hyperinflated stock market (mini gambling game that you win if you live long enough and taxes don't take half), then that is just sad. It makes me feel like I am cattle being farmed by the ultra rich, corporations, and government. I guess it's our only choice. We invest and we pray we get to walk away with at least half after fees and taxes and recessions.

I’m paying off debt at an accelerated rate meanwhile utilizing dollar-cost-averaging method weekly or each time I’m paid. I prefer more of a 70-20-10 [invest-spend-save] approach as it has created consistent cash flow in less than a year and steadily growing.
