I am Australian, and I've noticed that Americans are OBSESSED with "drywall". It is a specific type of interior wall construction, I believe. We build interior walls in Australia, with different names, and we don't talk about it much! Yet online, Americans are always talking about the magic "drywall." I have no idea why.

That was a real flashback seeing the rolling mills. I used to machine, assemble and operate ones that made the panels for the carports and screen rooms that every mobile home in Florida had it seemed. Ours were all manually operated so product changes were....... unpopular. We also had the extrusion press that made all the square tubular structure including the screen and storm doors. At one time I could make a complete order ready to be boxed and wrapped. I don't know if American Aluminum is still around but it was the best you could get. I was a car guy though so when a machinist job opened up at a foreign car shop to do restorations I was on it. Wow! That was 42 years ago! Those walls look nice and that boo-boo at the window will only be noticed by you. No big deal. Yes those scissor lifts are the deal! We used them at the plant I worked at and it really saved my arthritic knees. Your barndominium is looking nice. I'm actually a bit jealous..... LOL! Cheers Terry

You could have used one of those PB C connectors and have the threads on 1 side and when you stick it through Glue on the pipe on the other side they're side then you can stick your wire through it because the nut will be on the back side and the senses PVC screw the thread on that back side you put the nut on it then slide it over the wire and you got it made

Riley, the next time you are close to the metal shop, pick up a little bottle of touch up paint for that white panel. Where you patched it, carefully paint the raw edges- it will both seal the panel from rust but it will also reduce the appearance of your patch. Oh, and don't tell every body visiting! Get better soon, Cort- I'm quite sure you had bigger plans! FR

Just a suggestion but I put drywall inside my shop back in 1994 and it didn't last that long. The dampness from bringing cars in especially in the winter caused the mud and tape to come off and even the paper to detach from the core mud in places. My suggestion is go all metal. But you do as you like, time will tell.

I understand your apprehension about making sure everything is done in the walls before finishing them Riley. But one plus for the sheet metal panels is that if you want to make a change or addition later you can simply unscrew the panels to open the walls up. Make the changes. And then reinstall the panels.

Lived in a bungalo that had roll formed awning that used a rounded W shape top and bottom of the frame with 1/4 gaps between the top and bottom rows. Any rain that fell between the gaps fell into the lower channels. This resulted in awnings that let air thru. Were cool on the underside on the hottest days. And no matter how hard it rained. Not a single drop came thru. I have been under them in the rare cloud bursts in los angeles in the mid 1990s.

Hope you are feeling better today. Yesterday I posted about joint caulk and I see here today that post has disappeared. I only wanted to add one thing. Be sure you get pourable sealant. It will seek out and level out because you are using it on a horizontal surface. Because it is a horizontal surface then the pourable sealant will turn into a nice smooth almost flat top. If you want I can resurrect what I posted yesterday which included some good information about using backer rod and sealant.

Super sweet wall finish! If you end up with too much echoey-ness you might consider covering 20% of each wall and ceiling with a sound absorbent material. There probably is an inexpensive material to use but nothing other than Garage Band style carpet is coming to mind.

Not sure what you have planned for the gyp wall, but I think a great look would be to mill some pine from your land and clad the wall in planks. Minimal cost, cool accent, ties in with the land. Just a thought. Keep up the great progress, guys!
@C3Cooper2 жыл бұрын
Not using sheetrock is only a R-.5 insulation sacrifice. Seems worth it for the ease of installation. I expect that you'll notice greater sound bounce that drywall. Just keep plenty of scrap around for patching when you do need to cut into it. Lights just in time for shorter days.

Looks great. When you factor in the cost of keeping the scissor lift and paint the price gap isn't quite so big. It will make the shop area a little noisier as you found out. Great way to go. This is to late for you but might help someone else, when the batteries get low, you can run it plugged in. Was a little surprised you didn't get the drywall side painted while you had it?? Love the lights Get a leaf blower for "sweeping" out the shop.
