Yes you leave every year. But not required to leave during the year. Not all country's citizens are eligible. My wife is Filipina and isn't eligible for the 1 year. Thank you JC, This is such useful information. I really appreciate it when you refer to a specific agency or place, but this video goes beyond that and actually shows us how to navigate!!! :) P.S. We will be going to Thailand a full month in April and for one week, in the middle, we will be visiting friends in China. Just this last week we received our China 10yr multiple entry visas, and we used a recommended "visa run" company. I cannot tell you how much easier and cheaper it is to use a highly recommended well established company. This video of yours along with the "Process of Getting a New US Passport" (along with many others), are so practical and extraordinarily helpful. Thank you again JC

I think that's the new thing for US and Canada applying from those countries for China( valid up to length of passport ) -applying for one in a few months so will let you know! - Also to point out as someone married to a Vietnamese citizen ( in my case she has dual ) you can qualify for a "Visa Exemption" which lets you enter for 6 months at a time( multiple entry) and is valid for 5 years...costs about $100 CAN and although they don't say I'm sure can be renewed in country for probably 30 days or so - have done that before with tourist visas - costs $10-20...the other advantage over Thailand is if you want to live there ( and are married to a Vietnamese citizen) they have a "Temporary Resident" visa good for 3 years at a time...they do seem to be ahead of Thailand on the visa front at least for people married to nationals...

It's funny that only US citizens are charged 265+135 = $400... All the others i checked are charged 506 +135 = $641 for Business Visa. (Australia, UK, Canada, France , Spain and even Japan/THAILAND) I was contemplating Cha am/ Hua Hin... but I discovered that Da Nang has better, cleaner and extended beaches than both; even better than Clearwater FL ( i live in the northern Tampa bay area), and it has High rise buildings on the beaches like Clearwater/Miami... and at a fraction of the cost (around $1,200 compared to $5000 + for Clearwater and I I imagine Miami is even higher than that)... just hope they don't have too many Russians there. Americans can get a one year multi entry VISA for $120, not sure if it has been offered to other countries or not, but their website shows for American passports only. I get the one year VISA and stay for three months, leave and come back for three more. It is much easier than VISA on arrival, and better than the 30 day E-VISA, if you want to stay longer than 30 days.. Bad thing about the VISA on arrival is you might have a long wait. First time I got one I was done in 10 min as 2nd in line, 2nd time over one hour to get it. Also you can get a VISA without sending in your passport, copy of passport, photo and forms, and you can get a loose leaf VISA. Nice video with good information.

that online visa company you used is quite expensive. i used another company and they are about 50-70% cheaper. their 1month single/mutliple entry is only $6, and 3months is $15/single, 3 months, 6 months, 1 yr is $20/multiple entry. The wait for for visa on arrival is not usually a few minutes. YMMV depending when you are arriving (busy tourist season or not) and time of day. it can take up to an hour or more during peak times like lunar new year.

Hey jc I've been watching you for years. My question is I'm not sure would I be putting the cart b4 the horse. What if I go online and apply for the pre-approval letter, buy my airline tickets and my Visa is denied what do I do I'm stuck with airline tickets that I can't use what does a person do in that case? I don't think you can apply for the pre-approval letter without having dates arrival and departure dates but what if your Visa is denied and then you stuck with tickets you can't use.
@EscapetoThailand6 жыл бұрын
Just put you're proposed dates on the pre-approval. Note though that of approved you'll need to book those exact dates for travel so make sure first.

I've also never heard of someone getting denied. JC, as you know with the recent changes to the Thai Visa/Immigration program many retiree's will be looking at other living options. Several friends and I are looking at Danang using either the one year tourist or the 1 year business visa. It was only in reading the comments below that I learned about the 1 year business option (that does not require leaving every 3 months). Is this still accurate. Many thanks for the great info.
@EscapetoThailand5 жыл бұрын
Yes Hector that is correct. For Americans they can get a one-year tourist visa but every 90 days they would have to do a border run. You can buy a one-year business visa for Vietnam and not have to leave the country periodically. And as far as I understand it anybody from any country can purchase one of these visas if they get approved by immigration. But it's not limited, I don't think to certain countries.

@EscapetoThailand7 жыл бұрын
+Jason Hey Jason. Photographs are required at Vietnam airports only and you do not need to provide them during the online application process. They must have been taken within the last 6 months and: - in color, not black and white - taken against a light grey or cream background 40 millimetres (mm) width x 60 mm height (4cm*6cm) - be free from shadows - be printed professionally or taken in a passport photo booth. In emergency cases, photos can be taken at Vietnam airport for 2 USD/each

Hi JC, for British tourists you don't need a visa if you are staying for 15 days or less (about 2 weeks) and I assume this would be the same for other western countries but please check 1st. Quote from the official UK government website "Until 30 June 2021 British Citizen passport holders travelling for tourism or business can enter Vietnam for a maximum of 15 days (inclusive of dates entry and exit) without a visa". Therefore for British Citizens and probably other western countries please check for your own country if you intend just going for 15 days or less for a holiday or business trip don't get a visa as its free. Money saving tip.. Cal.

It looks a bit complicated for novices. Not many tourists have access to printers when travelling to print out hard copy approval letters. The requirements seem OK for people who have made frequent trips to Vietnam on previous occasions and are now familiar with the way things work. It seems quite involved for people other then US Citz if you wish to live long term retirement in Vietnam. It appears also really no long term Retirement Visas available. Clearly they are not interested in Retirees? A stroke of a pen could change all this for the better.
@EscapetoThailand7 жыл бұрын
+david walden Hey David! Actually for abbot $500 you can get a one year business visa with no requirement to leave or report your whereabouts every 90 days. More difficult? If traveling when doing this and not home with a printer you can have your hotel desk print it out or go to a copy shop. 👍

+walkabout29 No they don't have a retirement visa option per se. What they do have for Americans is a one year multiple entry tourist visa. Or citizens of most countries have the option of purchasing a one-year business visa. With the tourist option you need to leave and come back every 90 days. With the business option you don't have to leave at all for one year. Check the link in the description on that website and they can give you more information about that.

@EscapetoThailand6 жыл бұрын
So you don't have to take the time or effort for a visa approval process while you're sitting in the airport. This way the hours of time it takes to verify a person's background for the visa has already been done. I hope that makes sense.
@markolwick22237 жыл бұрын
I’m confused. You say with the one year visa, you cannot stay long term. Do you mean you can’t stay for a year, leave, then come back for another year? An annual visa run?
@EscapetoThailand7 жыл бұрын
+Mark Olwick Mark actually the one year visa that can be issued to Americans is a 90 day multiple entry tourist visa with a one year expiration. So every 90 days there needs to be an exit shown. I hear that some travel agents can accomplish this somehow but you could always do a border 🏃 run! BUT if you are from many countries you can pay a proceeding fee anywhere from $265 to about $500 instead of approximately $35 and you can get a one year business visa instead and you can stay in the country for periods of stay of a year without having to leave.

Vietnam is wising up. They want some of that tourism revenue that Thailand been getting for ages. There are several worthwhile sites worth seeing but the government didn't seem keen on having foreigners visiting their country. But they are not as bad as Bhutan. I read that you need to pay a visa fee of $250/day for a visa to be in Bhutan. And you must be with a tour group. And when you get to Bhutan it's mostly people living on a mountain where the men and boys wear what look like bathrobes. But Vietnam is worth seeing. And now with the e-visa they made life easier. Over ten years ago I used to chat with a Vietnamese lady whose American boyfriend decided to visit her first time. Someone told her he doesn't need a visa. When he tried boarding the plane in Los Angeles for Vietnam he was denied entry. He had to buy a new ticket that took him to Thailand. He waited in Bangkok three days before he was able to get his Vietnam visa. I tell this story to emphasize how rigid the rules were. I was in Vietnam last month. Crossing the streets there in the old quarters in Hanoi and parts of Saigon remain a challenge. They also got Uber. One of my friends called Uber to take me back to the hotel in HCMC. The traffic was a nightmare. The fare was 18,000 dongs or about $0.79.
@EscapetoThailand7 жыл бұрын
+Wayne Samuel Funny somebody the other day asked me why I don't recommend Bhutan for retirement! Yes Vietnam is still strict with visas but they are clear and uncomplicated.
@samthepoet1077 жыл бұрын
Bhutan is great if your lungs can handle breathing thin air because entire country is up in the mountains. Over the years I chat with one girl there only once and never heard from her again. They begrudgingly allow foreigners in. Vietnam wants some of that money the Thais been laughing all the way to the bank with while improving their infrastructure, subway trains and some of the tallest buildings in SEA.

+Wayne Samuel Yes Thailand has been on a boom. But as with all things what goes up must come down. In a few years it might not be THE place in SE Asia to holiday.

Guess what the rules have changed again. US citizens have to leave every 30 days effective 1 July 2020

Jeff fake news regarding the 30 day visas. Ignore the people saying this.

Make sure you have VN visa before step your damn foot on that country. Don't waste your time at VN's airport to get visa because you have to pay something to get it fast. Otherwise, they will let you wait for couple of hours.

Its best to go through the proper channels eg: The Vietnam Embassy not a travel agent or website not officially sanctioned by The Vietnamese Government! For example there are web sites saying you can get a visa upon arrival at certain airports in Vietnam...however the The Vietnam Embassy website in Canada for example states this is for extreme emergency situations only! Paragraph below...taken from official Vietnam Embassy website in Canada! Visas on arrival (or VOA) is a special facility reserved only for extreme emergency situations, mostly for humanitarian purposes and not designed for regular visitors. Abuse of the facility may lead to penalty and denied entry. Please click here for details on eligibility and our warning on the so-called "visa-on-arrival services". www.vietnamembassy.ca/visas

Barron not sure about your comment. The websites like the one I recommend ARE sanctioned by the government. It's an official stamp you have on the document you present at immigration at the airport. Also you are a little confused. Only citizens of certain countries can get a visa on arrival. Don't confuse that with what I'm discussing which is a PRE-APPROVED visa.
