Huge tip for backing a trailer. Open the hatch or drop the tail gate. It might look dump but you get a much better view, and you add all of your cool point back when you back all the way from the parking spot to the water without any bobbles.

TIP: for beginners trying to back a trailer. If your reversing and notice to much trailer in your left hand mirror, go left hand down on the steering wheel. Same for the right hand mirror, to much ski? right hand down. When your straight go back slowly and use small movements on the wheel to keep the trailer straight. Most importantly DO NOT RUSH! when you start to rush of get flustered accidents happen.

100% agree. Another trick I learned (using an SUV) is open the tailgate, then you can look through the car and have excellent vision, especially when the trailer is empty and you cannot see it. People look at you strangely, but I reverse down that ramp pretty easily. 😊

The is a very minor critique, but you are a pro and know how to do it. Beginners will have a hard time approaching the trailer and getting it lined up using as tight a turn as you did coming into the trailer. Beginners will need to line up the ski further out and come in at a straight line to the trailer. You didn't because it was second nature to you.

Nice video, but no one (especially beginners) should ever leave the helm of any vessel with the engine running and “in gear”. Makes sense with a roller trailer to keep it from rolling off, but that’s a good reason to not have a roller trailer. A traditional bunk trailer is much safer.
@maxflight7773 жыл бұрын
Bunk trailers are pretty much only used in the USA 🇺🇸! The rest of the world grape that wood with shitty bits of carpet nailed on …. Well it’s a shitty idea. Invest in a purpose built PWC trailer!
@greengrass893 жыл бұрын
@@maxflight777 I’m not sure what you mean by “purpose built”. Purpose built boat and PWC trailers do most often come with carpeted bunks or bunks with nylon pads. BRP stopped selling the MOVE trailer for Sea-Doos which had roller bunks. They were dangerous and damaging to the PWC. If a brand as big as Sea-Doo has switched to purpose built trailers with carpeted bunks, there must be a good reason.

I have help and never start the ski until it is off the trailer with a driver on board so no accidents occur such as hitting the throttle while getting on. Doing it this way also insures you get off the ramp quickly and don't tie it up for others to use. At some lakes and venues you have vehicles lined up loading and unloading boats and skis so don't tie up the areas.

You really should point out what type of trailer you have that works for your style of launching. If you have rollers, then your style works if your trailer has wooden bunks, this procedure will not work, if your trailer has bunks you have to submerge the trailer deeper almost to the point where the ski floats off if you don’t the ski will not come off the trailer, be able to blast it back onto the trailer if the bunks aren’t under the water please point that out so people don’t think they can use the technique you show on a trailer that doesn’t have rollers.
@Hozzam20 күн бұрын
This. My ski trailer has the bunks and it's pretty hard to get the ski off without sinking the trailer
@marklove80793 жыл бұрын
Pretty good. Only 2 points 1) Don't submerge the wheel bearings ie the axle of the trailer. When you get to the boat ramp the bearings are hot from being driven to the ramp. As soon as you submerge them they suck in a lot if sea water which results in bearing failure... usually in the side if a highway ! Not Good being stranded with a failed wheel. And if you have a spare wheel Still no good cause it's the bearing not the wheel that's failed. But I check the bearings.... How often ? But I replace the bearings every few year's... You wouldn't need to (It's a messy job)....And do you know when thier about to fail ? cause they don't give any warning that the average guy can detect. 2) Driving the ski in and off the trailer It isn't safe to do this cause your ski.is sitting a little higher (because your not killing your bearings.. see 1 It takes no more time just letting it roll off the trailer and placing it to the side AND you reduce the gravel rash by driving it onto the sand. Also if you do want to drive it on and off the trailer get a LOT of experience first..... The only accidents I have ever seen in 10+ year's in the sport are people trying exactly this. It's just too easy to hit the wrong lever which probably explains why 90% of ski accidents happen at the boat ramp 😉 Cheers and safe boating.
@wesmccullough81763 жыл бұрын
1) marine trailers are designed to be submerged. Grease is used to protect bearings and the grease and bearing are wearing parts requiring maintenance and regular inspection. 2) trailers and skis are designed to be driven on and off the trailer. To avoid stress on ski you should have the resting part of the trailer submerged.

I could not get my skis on or off the trailer if I did not fully submerge it. If my trailer axles are above the water, because I have a bunk trailer, I would never be able to shove my ski off

Maybe this works with rollers, but with bunks I have to push my ski (with my wife driving it) off the trailer even if I've got the fenders mostly in the water. Most boat trailers around here use bunks, and every goes fenders deep.
