The Easiest Way To Put On A Bat Grip - Cricket

How many times when getting ready for your cricket match has someone said "have you got a batting cone, i need to put on a new grip"? Most of the time the answer is no one has but, if you have a kitchen at your club there is a good chance you will find a sandwich bag laying around. Clean it first if it has been used though.
You can apply a new batting grip in less than 150 seconds. It is remarkably simple to do and you can really impress your mates with this simple cricket hack.
This video shows how to apply the batting grip with a sandwich bag. A shopping bag can also be used but is much harder as there is too much bag within the grip, which makes it harder to slide down the bat handle.

Seriously should be position 1 on how to fit a cricket bat grip. 3min max 6 min if the first time you do it. Works brilliantly. Super efficient no nonsense tip. Work with small shopping bag as well. Never knew. Super job.

That looks like a vintage BDM. I am sucker for gear and tend to notice 😉 Great video though! Didn't think it would slide on this easy. But since I'm used to the cone, I prefer it the traditional way. But always good to know if I don't have my cone, a good plastic bag can very well do it! 😀

Hi @Dreamer2000 good spot, the BDM bat was part of my coaching bag as it was beyond use in games. I find it easier putting a grip on with the bag now and have banished the cone to the garage. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment👍😀

Hi Ray, if you put a bag on the first grip and then repeat the same process. The bag then slides over the 2nd bag with less friction. Then cut away both bags when finished. Hope that helps.

Im using the same blue bag as him but it keeps getting stuck around midway of the bat handle. Then the plastic bag just tears away.. any way to work around this?

Maybe check the bag is straight as if twisted it will get stuck

How to remove the unwanted folds of the grip. I'm unable to remove the plastic from the middle part and it has created 2-3 unwanted folds. What to do now?

Roll the bottom half up until the folds are gone and then roll back down to the blade shoulders. If nearer the top roll from the top until you remove the creases. Hope that helps

Hi John H, That is annoying. I tried 1st time with a shopping bag but it had too much plastic inside the grip. So got stuck. I then looked at a recycle food bag but the film was too thin. A good quality sandwich bag though worked a treat. Hopefully you have better luck next time you try, as it does work with a good quality bag.
