Most probably the valve is used for placing your foot accurately rather than hitting the valve itself . If you have a target point to hit then you can hit the ball more precisely . It gives a reference point to hit . You can manipulate where to hit the ball relative to valve now . That's why valve is used . And it does improve accuracy upto a certain point.

Great concept! You gotta be closer to the ball while hitting it, and hit it more with the inside of the foot, with the leg coming straight on to the ball instead of from the side, I'm sure you will ace the knuckle soon!

Bro it was a alot easy when I tried the knuckleball All I had to do was don't copy others and see what fits me. So I watched some videos and learnt that you don't have to actually hit the centre of the ball if you will hit below the centre of the ball with a straight foot and a little bit of force. It actually follow throughs the centre of the ball and automatically your hard bone hits the centre and it's very easy to hit the knuckleball with this technique. It definitely worked for me even as a beginner and it could work for everyone else too.

The reason why the Jabulani knuckles much easier than other balls irrespective of kicking technique is because of it being too spherical. When you have something like that travelling through the air, there is a lot less drag (air resistance) so it prone to a more unpredictable flight pattern. Compare that to a conventional 32 panel ball, where the stiches between panels acts as divots and create more drag, which leads to a more predictable and less turbulent flight pattern. The demon skin could just have been good since it was the same build as the cheap glider football. Also the flat ball did knuckle quite a lot, but it dipped more than making lateral movements. Was still very unpredictable though. Good experiment nevertheless 👏🏾

If you think about what you actually want to happen, make sure the force of your foot goes into the direction the ball will go. Imagine two arrows, the force of your foot and the direction the ball goes, if they are in the same line then the ball will not spin.

im no pro but after closely looking at your technique you would probably benefit for striking the ball an inch or two higher. this is because when you strike the ball near the bottom in will generate top spin which will negatively impact the knuckle.

As far as I know the demon skin idea is faulty because the reason the ball curves in the first place is the little pockets on the surface of the ball catching the air and creating traction on the surface, thus causing it to curve. Jabulani knuckles a lot because the ball almost has zero surface patterns that would help the air fill and create curving. I believe the reason the demon skin ball worked is because the ball itself has very little 3d patterns on it. Hope I explained it well English is my second language :)

More than anything you just need a ball that is as perfectly round as possible, with seams that aren't very prominent, and then it's all technique. If you can hit the ball without putting any spin on it then it'll knuckle. Physics is what makes a ball knuckle. That's the thing with the Jabulani, it was almost perfectly round and with the near perfect seams, plus the grooves helping it to direct airflow. A traditional football has a deviation of about 6mm, the Jabulani had a deviation of about 1mm, making it the roundest football ever. Due to it's construction, the speed at which the ball needs to be travelling to knuckle is higher than a normal ball, about 40-45mph vs 30-35mph for a normal ball. The Jabulani due to it's construction also didn't actually spin as much as a normal ball, making it knuckle easier because the less spin that you impart onto the ball when kicking it allows the airflow to be influenced more by the seams, similar to the principle with seam bowlers in cricket that can swing the ball. If you hit the ball dead with no spin, the air is then influenced by the seams to create pockets of low pressure, which the ball moves towards. Because you're hitting the ball faster, it knuckles more.

Your technique is the problem not the ball. Use a straight run up, hitting with the flat side of your foot near the ankle, and don't pull your foot to either side, and don't swing through, just stop your foot after contact. You keep pulling your foot to the side after striking and it gives the ball spin. Also for the water filled one and the flat one, you shouldn't have taken it to the extreme. Just do a little bit of water with the rest air, or the ball is too heavy, and with the flat one don't deflate it completely, just a little more than usual so its squishy.

A "knuckleball" effect is really just a dead ball after striking it. And the technique is literally striking it with the "knuckle" part of your big toe, minimal follow-through to avoid accidental spin on the ball. So the ball needs to be also struck very hard to get enough velocity ( to generate the turbulent air). Most the time players strike across the ball and might not realise they're doing it and the area in which your foot makes contact with the ball will matter. Best way is to just analyse the masters of the technique (Ronaldo, Bale etc).

The aim of the video wasn't about his technique. The literal aim of the video is "cheating the knickleball" and making it easier to get. There are some KZbinrs who can knuckle 20/20 with a normal ball. What would be the point of that video. The video was to show if someone cannot knuckleball properly, what is the best way to cheat so they get it consistently.
