I like this design because you can plug the TV into a surge protector at the bottom to keep your equipment protected.

I installed an electrical outlet behind the tv that has surge protection built in. And add it to the circuit from the lower outlet. That way you don't need the wierd power jump cable or a surge protector on the floor

May I ask what you mean by “jumping electric to the new box”? The rest of video is presented very well and easy to understand other than that phrase. Never mind, I see now you plug the new installed box into the present outlet lol

What about if the fire break is in between? Also, i found they make a surge protected outlet when I hung my TV. Added that on the same circuit as the lower outlet and installed directly behind the tv. and then I didn't need that weird power jump cable down low or surge protector. Lots cleaner imo. But this is not a bad way if there's an entertainment cabinet that covers it all up
@TheFunnyCarpenter

If your above the fire blocking, I’d try and stay just above and then drill a hole in it through the box opening.

Looks good but I have some reservations about the power jumper lead as it appeared to be a doubled ended male connector which is what is known as a kill lead. Removing the wrong end of this lead with the power on would expose powered prongs which would be rather dangerous.
@TheFunnyCarpenter
@TheFunnyCarpenter Жыл бұрын
It would not be possible to power up the prongs in this configuration, its essential just the male end of a cord.
@jdemuro1
@jdemuro1 Жыл бұрын
The other end of it is the TV. Unless the TV is capable of energizing the male prongs, you shouldn't have to worry about it.
@robertt9342
@robertt9342 2 ай бұрын
There’s no power on the male box end. The TV does not supply power to the socket. This how you actually do this without creating a kill cord.

You should mention in the title this is for Americans only or for "cardboard walls" only. In Europe there's typically no "cardboard walls", but a proper brick walls. I always find it hilarious seeing those "cardboard walls", but here we go, there's actually one advantage of having them.

@jdemuro1
@jdemuro1 Жыл бұрын
Interior walls usually aren't...but not always. Depends on the house. But yeah it'll be a pain to get it through if they are. In that case it's helpful to use a wall fish, which is a rolled up length of stiff (but still flexible) wire that you can use to push through the wall, then attach your cables onto the end of it (electrical tape is best for this), then pull the cables through to the other hole, and detatch from the fish.

He screwed it into the wall, then jumped the power with the provided cord. Meaning, plug the provided double headed cord into the new outlet and the existing outlet. That's how u get the power.
