The alto is good for a trombone choir. It would have been nice to hear big band arrangements with alto, tenor and bass trombone, just like alto, tenor and baritone sax. I think alto trombone lost out to tenor because the positions need to be more exact to be in tune - there's less room for error on a smaller/higher instrument.

In case anyone is thinking of buying one, I can say that is beautifully made. The mouthpiece is just like the one for my baritone. I didn't expect that. +Tools240 I'm not sure what you need help with here. I've never played any 'marching' variety of instruments, as we don't really have them in this country.

+Trent Hamilton They are basically the same as their concert counterparts, but more suited for marching and outdoor environment (like the tuba and the sousaphone) and they have slight tonal differences. I was just wondering what instruments are good coming from a woodwind player :)
@darylynn6219 жыл бұрын
I find the Euphonium to have the Richest sound and Range, the Marching 3 Valve Baritone is a SweetHeart to play also. I have never heard a good sounding Mellophone? If I played French Horn, I'd rather play Alto Horn or Tenor Horn ( Valakeri Horn) as. the Rhinegold fans name it.
@joephillips57319 жыл бұрын
Where would I get this trombone?
@MichealMJF3 ай бұрын
I disagree that it's only a novelty instrument. Every time I hear a trombone ensemble I'm wanting to hear higher pitched horns on top for more arranging flexibility. The alto looks to be the ideal addition. Also, a big band such as Stan Kenton utilizing 5 trombones could definitely have benefitted from having the alto as the top voice.
@darylynn6219 жыл бұрын
Please excuse my ignorance , but "What is Pedal tone"
@TrentHamilton9 жыл бұрын
+darylynn621 In brass instrument terms, it is the fundamental tones of the instrument. The lowest notes you can naturally play.
@darylynn6219 жыл бұрын
Cool thanks, could this be lowered by a longer tuning crook? Say to B flat on An E flat horn? I have an ancient alto horn that came with an extra crook. It was bent so I never tried it.
@jrlepage2a039 жыл бұрын
+darylynn621 If the tuning slide was longer, then yes. The length if the tubing is what determines the pitch of an instrument, which is the whole principle behind tuning slides (and the trombone's main slide, even). As an example, my Bb/F tenor trombone has a really long tuning slide for the F attachement which lets me tune it all the way down to E. I don't think there exist alto trombones in F which have a long enough tuning slide that you can tune them in Eb, but in theory, it would be possible.
