I know that sounds kind of depressing, but I have a little personal ritual. Every year in my birthday I listen to this song. It's been 10 years. I'm not a teenager anymore and it's not my birthday today but I came here to say it's a shame you stopped doing this project. This song has been with me through a lot. Thank you.

My 65yo composed, well-accomplished neuropsychiatrist doctor friend told me she still feels like a teen "inside" and psychologically. Her take is that the facade changes as we age, but most folks are this way. I felt simultaneously validated and disappointed. LIFE RIPS, Y'ALL 💜🙌🏻

Heard this song in the movie Goodbye, World and it has been a favorite of mine ever since. Also kept thinking about this song when I was homeless recently. I was literally walking the streets until dawn because I didn't feel safe to sleep. It is weird the things that pop into your head at times.

+rollmefurtherbi And older than 20s. Why generalize? I think its just part of the human condition and something all of us (or at least a lot of us, haha) must suffer through. 39 year old dude right here and this song, for better or worse, is totally my life. Most so-called "normal" people/"grown-ups" seem like self righteous douchebags though, so I've learned to just accept myself and be ok with it. Its probably due to some type of undiagnosed developmental disorder of mine - but who knows for sure? ::shrug:: I just try to make the best of it :-)

When I hear of my cousin having a another baby Im shocked "Shes only 18!" Than I remember Im not a kid anymore but why does it feel that way? +11bravo1789 Uh-oh...I'm a 39 year old dude who still has nothing figured out - guess I'm really screwed, haha. Other than that, though, I'm like you in that I used to worry a lot when I was younger, when every one else was enjoying themselves. I was that "nice", sheltered, innocent boy, getting good grades and never rebelling, always too scared to stand up to my parents or other authority, etc. Hey, I was proud of my good grades - everyone's good at something, right? ;-) Sure, I was bullied a bit and I never really fit in with my peers, but I grew up upper middle class, so life wasn't really so bad and I never REALLY had to struggle (I see that now looking back, but it didn't really feel that way at the time, haha). Got a good job straight out of college, good money, etc. While all my other friends were all still in community college (I went to a 4 year school) and struggling. However, when the real world finally began hitting me hard, like when things got tough at my job, I realized I couldn't take the pressure and I cracked. Had to quit. For my sanity's sake lol So now things are really rough in life - financially, socially - you name it. I guess I just never really adapted properly to the "real world" like most people do. I think I have some type of undiagnosed developmental disorder, hence why I seem to always make the same mistakes and never learn, while everyone else my age has magically become successful in life. While I still feel so young emotionally and mentally. I think its possibly due to trauma I experienced when younger, because someone on KZbin recently opened up my eyes and I think now my family may have had what's called abusive narcissistic personality disorders. Really fucked up my self esteem and my head, still to this day. Really scary feeling like something's "wrong" with you, but not knowing what it is and no one seems to really give a shit in terms of helping you figure it out. So now that I'm older, now I choose to rebel and try to find my own path in life. Kind of the opposite to most people, who rebel when younger and then settle down and become "normal". Story of my life - go figure lol Most so-called "normal" or "grown-up" people just seem like self righteous assholes with no empathy to me. People should just be themselves, do their best, try to be a good person, and try not to worry where they're at in their life compared to others (easier said than done, I know). Just live your own life and try not to care what others think. Never really wanted kids anyway - figure its enough of a struggle just to manage myself, haha. So yeah, now I wish I'd definitely enjoyed my youth more while I had it. So I'm trying to now. I'm not sure you can call it a mid-life crisis though, since deep down I've always been this way. Its just only now I finally have the courage (or desperation lol) to let it out and truly be myself. Well, online at least :-) And try to put myself out there, to help others like me feel less alone. Sucks I didn't enjoy my youth more while younger. But I guess that's life. At least I still have good music to discover like this :-) Sorry for the novel, guess I had to vent, haha. Please check out my Channel if anyone relates to what I'm saying - I created it for people like us :-) Oh, and to the OP: "phillyhippie" - cool name! I'd totally be a "hippie dude" if I had the "balls" lol I might be too shy and introverted to be one, but I'm definitely one on the inside :-) Definitely a sensitive and empathic soul (bite me, y'all, if you think that sounds "pretentious", haha).

I replied to another poster in your topic just now and basically told my whole life story, haha. So I won't repost that here (its there if you want to find it), but I'll just say: Hang in there! You're not alone. I'm way older than you and going through all that, too, so I think its something a lot of us go through. Or at least a lot of us misfits :-) I like to think its just part of being human. And if we're meant to figure things out, we will somehow and it will all work out. And if I never figure things out, well...at least I'll always have awesome new music to discover and relate to like this song :-) Always trying to be the optimist, haha. Please check out my Channel if you relate to anything I'm saying - I created it for people like us :-) So I'd be flattered if you or anyone wants to check it out. Peace.

Goodbye World brought me here (though I may have heard the song on Girls, too - seen a few eps of that). "I make the same mistakes, feels like I never learn. Always give way too much for little in return. I haven't changed a bit, I'm still not over it ... I never did grow up, feels like I never will. My friends are all adults, I'm still a teenage boy..." Slightly altered lyrics ;-) But yeah, this is my anthem, for better or worse, haha. Anyone else? Its not just for girls or teens (or hipsters lol), but for everyone because we're all imperfect and flawed. And that's ok. Just part of being human, so people should accept it and embrace it about themselves and stop beating themselves up about it. Took me awhile to learn that. But what's so great about being "normal" or "grown-up" anyway? Most people like that I've met (especially online) are just self righteous assholes. Fuck them. Just stay true to yourself & do your best to be a good person. If anyone tells you you're not good enough the way you are, kindly tell them to go fuck themselves, haha.
@ShyLivesMatter
@ShyLivesMatter 8 жыл бұрын
Please check out my Channel if you relate to anything I've said. I'd be flattered :-) I basically created it (for one reason anyway) so people like us could hopefully feel less alone. I probably just have some type of undiagnosed developmental disorder (that I can't seem to get help for no matter how I try) which explains why I am this way - but who knows for sure? ::shrug:: Scary feeling - knowing something's "wrong" with you, but you're not sure what and no one seems to care about helping you. But I figure, at least if I can help others feel less alone, my life can count for something. And back to Goodbye World...maybe its just me, but I didn't think it was nearly as bad as people make it out to be. It was a realistic look at how many people would act in an apocalypse scenario and was primarily about relationships. Every movie doesn't have to be about people running around being "badass" lol That would bore me. So if that makes Goodbye World a "chick flick" - so be it. I"m a dude and I liked it ::shrug:: Different strokes...

sonder n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own-populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness-an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.

That is true!! And fine.. I can totally relate to this song.. I'm the on who always wants to stay up late when everybody else wants to go bed early.. and I still feel like a teenage girl.. and do make some of the same mistakes.. (but not always..).. I wish they sang that instead in that line... my ears want to hear it.. ('I'm still a teenage still.." I wish she said..)..
