This show puts to question the whole free will vs fate dilemma. While Griffith was indeed the one who made the choice at the end, the Idea of Evil and the God Hand have been manipulating both him and events around him to ensure that he would make the choice. Maybe Griffith would have made the choice regardless of the situation, or maybe he would have refused to sacrifice the Band if the God Hand hadn't pushed him to do so.

There are certain things you watch in anime that change you and take a piece of you when you watch it. Akira definitely fits that bill. But THIS?! I remember every detail, every scream. the reason the 2016 version was so bad was two reasons #1 because of time constraints the graphics actually didn't have enough time to finish rendering so they had to push it forward with half-rendered graphics and #2 the director had no experience with action or horror style because he only ever worked on chibi style slice of life anime prior
