Love ya work mate, and I see you responded to someone below wanting to get your hands on a SDD3K. I can certainly tell you if there's one purchase that for me stood the test of time it's that unit, and it will never, ever be sold - the actual main challenge is I just have to keep the damn thing alive!! It sits in my rack and is very well taken care of, for good reason!! I was talking to an old friend (who used to be "the guitar guy" in one of the main shops I'd go to, and who then became a mate, as some do when you have that "always in the bloody shop aren't ya! Do we need to order a camp bed?" vibe going on) who used to say he looked forward to me stopping by to check gear out because I'd sit there for hours just trying this sort of tone stuff out, instead of defaulting to always playing some lead or something. Nowadays we've got so much scope with digital units and modelling, IR etc but honestly there's really just no substitute for hitting the preamp section of my 3K at just that right spot, running it into the amps (I have an old 70s-era HH and a HiWatt combo - both are loud as individually, together they can be... just a shade off devastating haha) and just playing some of those classics. (It's often occurred to me that my favourite 3 guitarists are all Dave's too - Dave Murray, Dave 'The Edge' Evans aka The Edge of course, and David Gilmour. Weird how things worked out there too). Another banger explainer for people to enjoy out there, cheers!

Latest Boss GT-1000 firmware added an SDE3000 delay model- it's quickly becoming my favorite delay block, which is saying something when it beats out the Space Echo.
@hummer2222 жыл бұрын
Does the GT1000 also implement an analog preamp section and analog feedback circuit in delay fx? That's where the magic lies with my SDE3000.

@@hummer222 It emulates it, including the feedback phasing and filtering. Sounds pretty great.

Nice one Leon! I've been indoctrinated into running delays after the amp usually in parallel over the years and forgot how cool it sounds up front.

I have to admit, I was getting more "Gilmore" vibes than "Edge", but the tones and playing were still great. Some day I'll get an AxeFX...

Question: Is the SDD Pre & Vintage Digital Delay you demoed here only available on the AXE FX 3 & Fm9 or is it on some of the legacy units (namely the Axe FX II)? Also, I would love to know you opinion on the idea of AxeFX for FX only in a tube amp stereo rig? Which rack unit would you use? Thanks so much & again another BadAss vid!

Available on the II and AX8 as well. Axe-Fx III is incredible for fx only in a trad rig!

4:00 Sorry but it's probably my bad for not getting it. Is the purpose of using two amp blocks and setting the delay phase to 90 to get a stereo delay sound or something else? Could u please clarify that part for me? Thanks a lot, Leon!

Leon, sorry dude, that's not sounding like the Edge as all, to me. I dunno. Not the famous songs, at least. Too aggressive on the gain? Too fast on the repeats? Not much of a bucket brigade delay sound either. You're usually right on the money on these. We're you rushed to do this episode? Anyway, another thing I noticed is that the new white ambience light you're using is a bit harsh. Gives a cold wash over your studio. What happened to the warmer amber lighting? Looked much more natural and probably a lot better for your eyeballs. Pretty sure that Mahe warmer LED bulbs. Sorry for the criticisms. I just appreciate all the top notch stuff you always put out there. You, Pete, Andy, the old ambient guitar guy, the bald dude, and when I need a sedative for my insomnia .. Don Carr🤣✌️

I agree, it's more about the drive saturation with whatever your favourite delay is

@@LeonTodd I liked around. He often played a strat through low gain, then 2 different modulated delays (EHX Nemo Mann) in parallel
@igiveyouthetruth5 күн бұрын
I don't think you have any understanding of the Edge sound. Where to begin... He's not David Gilmour. He's not in Pink Floyd. He doesn't play Run Like Hell. His core tone isn't that distorted. It's edge of breakup. Modulation is in the delay, NOT the chorus pedal. The SDD preamp is used to boost subtly, not turn into heavy metal territory. It's also about a subtle tone, and there is NOTHING subtle about this tone. Yes he does harder tones with delay (Until The End of The World for instance) but I don't think that's what you think you are doing here. It's really NOT about sticking a dotted 8th delay and muting gritty tones. He very very rarely does that clichéd sound. Not impressed.
