The candle cannon thing that Christine used was a payoff to the first Doctor Strange when Strange picks it up to use against Mads character and he says “you don’t know how to use that do you” so he just throws it at him. The script wasn’t that tight, but Raimi proved that he’s still got a fastball and can elevate material. I had no problem with the cameos getting axed so quick. They had an arrogance that made me believe that they could be taken out by a threat that they underestimated. It made sense that they would be more concerned with Strange instead of Wanda. Also, I’m very happy that Anson Mount got another crack at Black Bolt and happy to find out that Feige doesn’t completely disregard the Inhumans. Hope Mount returns. Just wanted to share my thoughs about the bad Dr. Strange: That Dr. Strange is not the Evil Dr. Strange from What If. The evil Dr. Strange from what if was so strong and unstoppable that his universe was basically erased by his actions and he got trapped in his own little prison in which the Watcher says it was his own punishment and wasn't going to help him. Trust me! The Dr. Strange from What if would wipe the floor with Wanda and our Dr. Strange.

This movie either needed to be an hour longer or 30 minutes shorter. Too many things were unexplained (weird ghoul killing canon) or undeveloped (America just suddenly being able to control her powers, and her backstory was so lame to me). The entire plot point about super strong book was essentially useless (Wanda just destroys it). Characters are stupid (the Illuminati are just all idiots), and the tonal shifts were just way off base in my opinion (the horror elements just did not mesh with the cheesyness for me). The acting was also not great (I thought America's actress didn't do a great job). Still had fun, but the movie was not strong. 6/10.
@60fpspeasant842 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! Although i like this film more than other marvel due to some awesome Sam Raimi shots. The Wanda shots jumping between 2 universe look so cool.
@crlpl12 жыл бұрын
If by Weird Ghoul Killing cannon do you mean Brazier of Bom'Galiath, then I suggest rewatching first Doctor Strange movie. Doctor Strange grabs it to threaten Kaecilius but does not know how to use it. It was a clever scene that shows, that Stranges variant learned how to use that and showed Christine how to do it.
@NicoSuavemente2 жыл бұрын
@@crlpl1 I remember that part now, thanks for that. Honestly though, I think it barely improves the scene, because there is zero indication that Christine would know how to use it. Also, it's a payoff for a small throwaway scene in a years old movie that most people (including myself) had forgotten. If the payoff was another small throwaway joke, it would be fine, but it wasn't. So most people watching it will just be confused.
@hsavov2 жыл бұрын
I still haven't watched the podcast, but watched the movie in IMAX. I agree that America Chavez was the main weak point of the movie, as well as the out-of-place comedic relief (the entire illuminati thing was out of balance, so the gravity of that universe's Strange actions never felt serious and that section could have been cut entirely). I think if America Chavez was cut from the movie, the breaches to the multiverse were caused by a combination of events from Spiderman-Man 3 and Wanda's desire to reunite with her children, the movie would have been much better. The way things were laid out, it seemed that there would be serious consequences from Strange's actions in Spiderman 3, but that was entirely scrapped in favor of a weak character. I think Elizabeth Olsen did an amazing job in this movie and was the high point.

@XAshe522 жыл бұрын
Good discussion. I liked the movie. My one gripe is Wanda's motivation. In an infinite number of multiverses, why on earth does Wanda want to get to one where her children are safe and happy with another good version of her? You're telling me there's isn't a multitude of universes where her kids are orphans or abandoned? You could even make it more of a plot point. Wanda could say she's looked at thousands of universes, and in almost all of them her kids either never existed or are dead, and she needs to get to these ones before they also die. That would at least make her heel turn understandable. She's lost so much. Her parents, her brother, her soulmate and her children. And she cannot bear to see these other universes where her children keep dying. I don't buy at all that Wanda would even think of stealing her kids from another version of her.
@lumoneko2992 жыл бұрын
It would seem that the multiverse isn't infinite in the sense that every element can be different. Like there doesn't seem to be a universe where Doctor Strange is happy with Christine. So with Wanda, it could be that every universe is either her children being happy or they don't exist at all.

@MarcRitzMD2 жыл бұрын
She personally has only found the universes in which Wanda still exists so that she can dreamwalk. With the power of Chavez, she could hop to random universes where the mother died after giving birth to both of them, but that isn't an option that has become available for her at that point. It would still require absorbing Chavez.

Christine uses the Brazier of Bom'Galiath when fighting the spirits, it's a callback to the first movie when Dr. Strange picks up the artifact when fighting against Mads' character, Kaecilius, who then asks 'You don't know how to use that, do you?' for a small laugh

It's really a good movie for me and I enjoyed it, but I don't think it met the expected hype generated. There were these stylistic choice with the camera and angles they made that weren't use in the previous MCU movies. I couldn't really say that I hate it, nor do I like it. It's not the first time I saw the style, but kind of weird on this one. Another one is the experimental musical note fight scene, which did not click for me. That fight scene is a bit weak as well. For someone who watched the "what if" and believed that that variant was the Strange Supreme, he should hands down destroyed the "regular" Dr Strange.

I have 2 reasons to comment: 1- I see complains about the memory store and I agree that it could have been better but, it is explained in the movie... Dr. Strange says very clear to America: "don't you see? Every universe we visited was chosen by you because we had to be there, you don't realize your power ". You have to think that: appearing in that universe, at that time, at that street and passing in front of the memory store (that gives you a small glimpse of the memory that upon paying, you can be there) was chosen by her powers. It cannot be tossed as "stupid coincidence" in the movie.. Un my opinion. 2- NOITA! You guys mentioned NOITA, I tried many times to get David to check the KZbinr: FURY FORGED. He loves the game NOITA. He sounds just like David, even some ways of talking. Some maneirisms.. Don't look at him, just hear him and let me know if I'm crazy. Thanks guys. And yes. With that said, the Illuminati section really showed some serious “reshootville” vibes… I’d love to see the directors cut! One thing/ you guys mention about America’s power being controlled out of nowhere but the WHOLE thing is she’s holding back because of her parents. It makes sense that she’s gone on these adventures and trusts Strange that his words and his belief is worth her also having belief instead of fear 🤷♀️

Yeah America goes from feeling like an unfortunate soul who is burdened by a cosmic power, to taking ownership of her power and believing in herself and her capabilities to wield it, and that only happens because of the trust and belief that strange puts in her.

Where you're talking about how Strange could have told America 'you can do it' at any time and the movie would've been done, the vague sense I got was that's true, but it was more about Strange's arc to get to the point that he could be the person to say those words. I say vague sense because I feel like what was missing was us seeing that click with him in some little moment, and maybe that connecting more with the story about his sister. I'm long time Team Raimi and loved the general vibe of the film, but I feel like the emotional core of it was more a rough sketch plastered over with awesome superhero stuff than a solid foundation. Which is pretty jarring when compared with Wandavision, which was neutron star levels of emotional density with a thin coat of MCU.
