As a kid, I never thought I would find some kind of enjoyment out of watching a guy shaving at 5:00 in the morning lol. But seriously, thanks for all the great videos Geo cause they have helped me embark on an awesome journey when it comes to shaving. Makes me feel more like a man each time I shave with my safety razor.

Love my EJ DE89! I started with a cheap Van Derhagen butterfly type from Walmart. Didn't like it. Went with a vintage Gillette SuperSpeed butterfly type I picked up off that auction site.. It was okay. Then, I bought the EJ DE89 from Geo. I paired it with Astra Superior Plantinum blades and a tub of TOBS Sandalwood cream, also bought from Geo. I've been using this combination for years now. No problems and no discomfort. A very smooth shave! You can't lose with EJ! By the way, I did try several different blades before settling on the Astra. As far as aftershave, right now, my fav is Captain's Choice Nor'Easter balm, again, from Geo.

Well this is my first DE razor I got it 6 months ago and don’t regret it one bit, I feel the shave it provides is fantastic for my skin with Derby extra blades. The money it saves compared to my old cartridge razor and quality of shave is a no brainier for which one is better. I started off with an arko shave stick and had no problems whatsoever but decided to treat myself to the Taylor of old Bond Street sandalwood shave cream. It’s turned a chore into a very pleasant experience that I often look forward to.

Love your video Geo! Thanks so much! My favorite razor. It is critical and I learned through experience, the shave creams are very hard on the threads which screw to the handle. The critical is making sure a person cleans those threads really good so there is no corrosion. My first head last maybe 6 years. Contacted Edwin Jagger, they are awesome, they replaced my head, and gave me some tips on cleaning and polishing.

Hello Geo ! Greetings from Greece! You have helped me a lot with your videos so far , and you answered a lot of questions, that I have might have had and I thank you for that , I am very grateful ! But one just came up ! Isn't the handle a bit slippery? Because I see it without any knurlings or grooves. I know from you , that you are not supposed to handle razors with wet hands , but still, does all this polished chrome give you a good grip ? Oh and a thing I forgot! Good job on keeping a 10 year old razor like new ! Keep it up ! 👍

I never started out with this razor... I went to the Merkur 34G and never looked back.. Then upgraded to the Merkur Slant 37C via a Geo YT Video...and BOOM! What a smooth great Razor.. smooth with a Little more aggressiveness in the slant for the perfect shave.. Btw Merkur 34G is just the Gold version of the 34C-hrome.. I assume it would be a step backwards for me to try this Edwin Jagger 89, but it is undoubtedly a classic! I bet the Merkur 34C and Edwin Jagger DE89 together are responsible for a hundred thousand people begining their wet shaving Journey with these specific pieces in their hand! Cheers

I’m ready to move away from cartridge razors and this video has only confirmed my decision. One question, though. I’ve seen many videos mention that the Feather razors are very sharp and often suggested to make a razor shave more aggressively. I plan to purchase a DE89 variant from Shave Nation, but a little hesitant to start with the Feather blade as a newbie. What are your thoughts on what to start with? Well, I typed the above comment before watching the whole video and it looks like you answered my question.

It's very rare I shave because I trim to keep a stubble but I recently bought a KCG safety rasor for my dad and now I feel like shaving and I ended my subscription for dollar shave club since the safety rasor is better than the 5 blade rasor that most people use

I've been wet shaving about 7 months now. And I really enjoy your reviews and instruction on the subject. I've only got 2 razors right now. A Vander Hagen which I purchased at a drug store. And then I ordered a parker 96r. I been looking at your site for an upgrade. Was wondering if u could give a few razors. Interested in an adjustable of some kind. Thanks 👍

Love my DE86 but wish it was more aggressive. Maybe I'll try a shim, I just need a bit more. Setting 3 on my Merkur Progress works good for me, much more aggressive.

@@geofatboy Yes. My beard is thick and even growing on chin and stache. But grows uneven on the rest of the face. So I have to give it 2-3 days growth for a comfortable shave. So by then, it's a bit too long for the mildness of the EJ. I do really well with the adjustable, it's the best for me I believe. I'll still have use for the EJ, but only at the right time, works good if I do every other day, but I love shaving best at 3 days. I wish I could do everyday, loving it now that it's a hobby.

astra is my favorite blade. i had this razor as well but i found the handle would get slippery as my hands got wet so I had to buy a knurled aftermarket handle that didn't fit that well but it worked for about 10 years before the threads on the head of the shaver gave out and I had to get a new razor. also the chrome peeled off a bit and scratched up my face but I just hit that with some 1000 grit sandpaper and got rid of the chrome burrs that were scratching me. all in all it's a great razor but they should put some knurling on the handle.

I went for a Gillette King C double edge, inexpensive to give it a go after spending 20years putting up with cartridge razors and razor burn/ingrown hairs. Nothing but a baby smooth face/neck with no irritation now.

Is it better to get the rubber handles compared to the chrome ones.
@ianmayer2951
@ianmayer2951 3 жыл бұрын
Geo, is there a reason you don't hang your brushes by the handle instead of the bristles? a matter of preference or it's meant to be hanged that way ? I always hanged mine at the very top of the handle... I think it looks better and balanced side by side with my safety razor.
@geofatboy
@geofatboy 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian-Most of my brush handles don't fit in the stand, but they do where the knot meets the handle. Hanging somewhere on the handle eventually scratches the handle so be careful with that.
