This would have been nice to know when I set up my hitch 3 years ago. It explains why the front end seems a little light. Guess it is time to make some changes.

I just did this with a 2018 quad cab ecodiesel with autolevel air and a 26bhsck (i think it was) and we had the hitch flipped, 1 hole up in the L brackets and 6 washers. The truck was on level ground when i set it in jack mode. when I turned off jack mode the air suspension didnt need to self level and I lost nothing. the trick to this is when you raise the tongue jack, check the front AND REAR heights before turning jack mode off. if front and rear drop dispraportionally, its setup wrong cause the air autolevels unless its over capacity. there is nothing you can do about the 1” rake on ram 1500’s with air but you can setup so the rake is maintained. best towing experiemce ive had in 25yrs. I didnt even have to scale it this time. of the back drops more than the front, theres not enough weight transfer and the air suspension is going to unload your bars. the air suspension should not be auto leveling, its dangerous

How can we tell what 100% weight distribution is? Do we need to have a scale for that measurment?

If there is little to no sway, your hitch is set up correctly! If you are feeling a lot of sway, check your manual to adjust your hitch.

​@@EqualizerHitch - We are adding two washers to the hitch today, everything is level, but the camper has too much sway, if we bump the L-bracket the truck feels like it's floating on a sponge - Hopefully this fixes the issue

You can use a scale or a tape measure. For 100% weight distribution, that means the weight distribution hitch is transferring all the weight back to the front axle so that it has the same load as before a trailer was connected. If using a tape measure, the height of the body fender directly above the front axle is directly related to the load on the front axle. In other words, if the height of the front fender above the front wheel is the same height with weight distribution as it was before connecting the trailer then you have 100% weight distribution. However, 100% isn't always the goal. It depends on your vehicle. refer to your owner's manual to know how much is recommended for your vehicle. Typically HD trucks recommend about 50%, while some half-tons or SUVs will recommend more. But don't ever exceed 100% or you are taking too much weight off the rear axle of your tow vehicle which creates other problems.

Addie, Yes! The more washers are added, the more weight distribution you are getting from your sway control hitch.
