Our voyage through my embarrassing earlier works continues with a game from 2002 rather heavily inspired by the Monkey Island series if Monkey Island had been mainly about sex jokes. I played ToOK yesterday and decided to watch this tonight. It's a very cute game, a loving tribute to a bunch of adventure game classics that were made by teams of non-teenagers with money and resources, and not one overly-horny 19 year old with a bad blog. That's the right light through which to view it.

Looking back over this, I feel like one of Yahtzee's problems with his old games is that he holds his past self to a higher standard of humour than he does even his present-day self. The little throwaway gags like the penlights quip about the owl don't need to be fully set-up and punchlined jokes, and it's fine to have little chuckles like that in sometimes.

Yeah, found it on one of those freeware discs that come with computer magazines, I was scared shitless by it but eventually went through the whole series and loved it. Only one that I didn't enjoy as much the others was Trilby's Notes because I've always been extremely bad at text based adventures.

Kharneth Korn I really liked the story in Notes but it's just that I don't have the imagination to get through text adventures. I'm better at classic point-and-click like the other Chzo titles. Overall I think 7 days was the best of them all though. I JUST WANTED TO GO TO SPAAAAACE!

1 minute and 30 seconds into it and Yahtzee already tells Gabe to stop smacking his chops. The only reason I dislike it when Gabe smacks his chops is because Yahtzee makes a big deal of it. It's not that big a problem.

This game was the first Yahtzee related thing I ever came across a decade or so back, because at that point it was one of the few AGS games that was finished and not completely dreadful. For what it is, it's really not bad! Not something to be embarrassed about.

It's looking to me like a lot of these characters are fragments of Yathzee. It's kinda like how a deity in a video game might be made up of several elements or charms. Smash Yathzee into pieces and he falls into little shards of Rob Blanc and such.

Yeah, the earlier versions of AGS engine (the one used to make these point-and-clicks) were under MS-DOS. And later Windows versions were a bit of a pain to run on modern systems.

I never forgot to take the disc back for a rental game. However I did once neglect to take the manual back, and I being a stupid kid at the time, kinda freaked out a bit about this. So I rented another game shortly afterwards and sneakily put the manual in with the second game. I don't think being buried alive like that is survivable. You'd just ingest a lot of dirt and be crushed under the weight of it that even if you did get out, you'd have little strength to stand. And even then you'll most likely suffer from crush syndrome and die soon afterwards.

Seed Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?I thought 7days was good though. Gameplay was a bit standard for an adventure game, but story- and atmosphere- wise it was decent enough.My favorite in the series has got to be Trilby's Notes, though, with it's own OST, appealing graphics and kickass story and atmosphere.

***** Don't get me wrong, I liked that game. And the whole series for all that it matters. But the way 7days treats space physics and some smaller things is worthy of a few Nobel Prizes. There's a let's play floating around that explains everything in detail, check it out. You can actually fall down if you don't strap yourself to a harness-thingy and die immediately as a result. If Yahtzee ever does take up making games again I think this would be a brilliant one to build off. Unlike some of his other games this one wasn't just not bad, it was actually pretty fucking good. And it's a solid enough foundation to build off, use this as a "Jumping off point" as yahtzee says, preacher's pissed, goes finding Kent on an island or something. "13 years, 13 fucking years, you thought you'd gotten away with it. Well I'm back, and I have a barrage of nuns and pedophiles to help me. You're fucking dead, Kent" Obviously all in an Irish accent. Perhaps Kent is the villain of this game? Portrayed as a now billionaire, think what people thought of bill gates in the 90's. Okay, fuck the nun thing, that's kinda getting into shitware "Doom penguin Zombies vs pirate nuns XD LOLSORANDUM" territory. I guess I'm having a giggle thinking of the sequel to this being as big as Saints row or something. The juxtaposition of the two would be a laugh in itself.

Just a general question, but does anyone feel like people's tastes in gaming changes over time? For example, just five years ago, if you asked me what my favourite game or genre was, I would have said CoD/FPS games, but right now, I have been trying to get into older RPGs and RPGs in general. Games like Fallout, Elder Scrolls are now some of my favourite games right now and I somehow accumulated over thousands of hours in total throughout each series.
