Julian Jaynes' theory, as presented very clearly in his great book, "The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind" explains very clearly why people, who lived in civilizations up until three millennia ago, 'knew' there was an afterlife. Have you not read it?

It's crazy I just stumbled upon his interviews yesterday! I was looking into Jacques Valle's books and someone in the comments recommended to watch the Mishlove interview with Terrence McKenna. I started watching some of the videos on his channel. Super interesting guy (although some of his concepts are a little far out for me). Anyway I just think its a cool coincidence.

Very interesting. When I was a young child about 3 years old I had a memory/dream that I was an adult female (I am male and straight), walking around a courtyard with a fountain and was gazing at the fountain through a wrought iron fence while gliding my hand along it. I could feel my dress and hear its rustling as I walked. I felt aristocratic or from a wealthy class and the whole thing felt very familiar and Spanish. Of course I had no idea or reference about anything Spain or Spanish. It wasn’t until I got older that it all started to fall into place. And the real kicker was when I found out I was part Spanish and that my Spanish ancestors were rather wealthy.

I was shown all the keys points of this life as a child. I forsaw all the greatest and worst experiential perspectives the things I would end up going through through what I can best describe as a higher conscious lense. I don't know much about past lives because this life wasn't even given the chance to construct a solid ego in the first place. I wish I could share the revelations I've received but trying to do so with our language would just botch the point. Consciousness fundamental... don't deny fear...go through it.

As a student of Egyptology I'm not sure the Egyptians ever made mention of reincarnation, at least reincarnation isn't the term I would use. He's definitely right about the Egyptian idea that every person has not only a body, but also a number of other forms/souls. Soul is a tricky word here but the Egyptians believed there were multiple parts of a person that persevere after death, with different destinations and purposes. All that said, I think that if we continue to think about life after death as an "after" instead of a "beyond", we remain stuck in a spatial-temporal paradigm, which may apply in reincarnation, but it gets really confusing when trying to explain theological concepts of life beyond death. We start imagining some location, staying stuck space time.

An extension of this argument is that assuming this phenomenon of reincarnation is true, a possible explanation of the collective unconscious affecting the afterlife is that consciousness creates an extension of itself. I enjoy the notion of consciousness as a "field" akin to any physical field like a quantum or gravitational field. Considering the energy conservation laws these fields obey would imply that consciousness also is conserved and reincarnation is a mechanism by which this takes place. Just a fun idea to think about!

Super interesting - this makes me wonder why we don't hear more about the ancient Egyptian cosmology and ontology. I lean towards a Jungian collective-unconscious explanation for "memories" of situations and general events that an individual ostensibly hasn't experienced, rather than reincarnation in the sense of some individual essence that is preserved and transmigrates. Mishlove mentions the collective unconscious in connection with the afterlife, so I'm unclear why memories of putative past lives require a different mechanism. Certainly the idea of the "personal" essence being composite and perhaps decomposing into elements that go their separate ways is worth a ponder.

I think empirically all we can say is these people remembered someone else’s memories. It could be reincarnation or simply point to a collective consciousness of some sort where memories can be shared. I had a strange bout of deja reve once and when I told my friend he finished telling me what I’d seen. It was a memory of a very specific and vivid dream he had from his early childhood before I’d even been born (he was older than me). I think of this often when reincarnation is offered as the only explanation for these stories.

Curt, Wouldn't it be interesting to see if anyone is "educating" AI's in a specific bodies of historical literature... meaning uploading libraries of Egyptian Middle Kingdom "texts" .... into an AI program... would that then allow us to "converse" with a Egyptian mind from that time period? Sumerian cuniform texts? Of course we can read the texts and assume what the "gestalt" worldview would be...but what would we learn if we could actually convese with a mind from that time period? What would be the emergent aspects? What if you can interview a Sumerian? Surely someone is already doing this??

So, that being said about reincarnation contibuting to gender dysphoria, how should we handle the condition? Should it still be seen as a mental illness as the DSM5 classifies, largely because of the su icide rates, many of which having no relation to bullying or outcasting, but simply mindest. Should it be treated as an illness considering studies show no amount of hormonal changes or body mutil ation reduces the percentage of sui cides, or teach it in elementary schools as a positive ideology?

Why is everyone obsessed with us having to reincarnate forward in time? Why can't you reincarnate into the same bodies in the same timeline? If time isn't fundamental, or even if we live in a block universe, then all of time, the past, present, and future are already recorded and are only coordinates then we should be able to even reincarnate backwards in time.
@Solaar_Punk

Because time in this dimension is fixed in one direction. The people from this timeline's past have already had souls.
@PrescottValley
@PrescottValley 3 ай бұрын
@Solaar_Punk people in the future would also already have souls if the past, present, and future exist simultaneously, too. Einstein told us almost 100 years ago that time is just an illusion and all exist simultaneously together. So which dimension is time fixed in? We live in 4 dimensions that we know of already. We can do the math for 7 more dimensions that we know we live in according to quantum mechanics and string theory. These 11 dimensions are on a scale of a theoretical infinite number of dimensions that we most likely live in. So which dimension is time fixed in? All of them?

I believe in reincarnation, but I think it could be true even on the physical level (with reasonable abstraction) rather than necessarily being supernatural. Our brains have so much in common just in how theyre connected via biology and genes, that our individuality may be more of a distinction than a difference. Even as an individual your brain wiring and atoms are replaced so you would only be an imperfect copy of a younger self which may in fact have better representatives in todays young people around you today than the old you. If we are forced to say you are you because of your material...that changes too...every atom replaced over 7 years. So we can only really define an identity in the abstract anyways...but this is shared with many other people, animals, and even machines and books when they are in use...at that this abstraction level and to varying degrees. I really think we were all here long ago, right now in other people and possibly other sentient life in the universe, and into the future.

When we die someone or something uploads our consciousness , erasers our memories and experiences and merges it with artificial life . Advanced technology is breeding humanity , no different to cattle breeding for human consumption. It’s our essence that is at stake - when you dream , is it your human character or a subjective non human awareness…. Think about that!
@Lucmercurius
@Lucmercurius 3 ай бұрын
That's an interesting idea, can you expand on that? I don't understand the part about dreaming, you mean our true mind is when we dream? What about our lives here, is it digital or are we in "base" reality?
@No2AI
@No2AI 3 ай бұрын
@@Lucmercurius our essence, in dream does not acknowledge or recognise our human form or character as the self … whilst in dream state our consciousness disconnects from the body and ventures into a mysterious and disorderly reality , so it appears when you wake up, yet during the dream itself your consciousness accepted it as natural and coherent and does not question the strangeness of the event or events . So Where then is the ‘real you’ and where is the ‘real here’, why during our dreams don’t we question the ‘illogical and irrational’ events that unfold?
