My theory behind messmer's snakes are that, similar to godfrey and godrick, they are grafted to him. However, for a different reason. Noting the wings on the snake's body, his dragon communion eyes, and his overall odd body shape, i believe hes using the snakes essentially as proxies to halt the transformative effects of dragon communion. That would explain the wings on the snakes and his eyes: through grafting, hes managed to go further into dragon communion than any other without becoming a magma wurm.

I thought the transformation was the entire point of dragon communion; you're trying to become a dragon. It's just that most people, or even everyone who attempts it, fail and ends up as a magma wyrm instead. Though even then perhaps the wyrm is merely an intermediate stage, and those who continue the practice can transform into something else. Have we seen a demigod that practice dragon communion yet? It's entirely possible that it manifests differently for a demigod. The snakes could be part of the transformation.

One thing to note about the shield being dropped from TWLID is that they have been dead for YEARS. Before the erdtree was even a thing. Their weapons are all old and rusted and even the bandit curved sword alludes to them being old. I think the reason banished knights are in Farum Azula is because Godfrey invaded it, much like he did the Mountaintops for Marika. Both banished knights and crucible knights used to be part of his army, and we see two of his 16 crucible knights in Farum Azula as well. One of the crucible knights is even still fighting the beastmen, so they're not friendly. Stormhawks were also part of his army, and there's plenty of them there. Marika must have conquered Farum Azula at some point, if she stationed Maliketh and a tree sentinel there. And it would make sense that she'd see the ancient dragons as a threat, given that their scales (the ancient dragon smithing stones) can forge weapons capable of killing gods. We also don't know why the ancient dragons would have attacked Leyndell, but it could have been in retaliation for Marika and Godfrey destroying their city. Finally, the Ruins Greatsword is a legendary armament, despite just being a broken piece of Farum Azula. I think that's because it was made legendary in commemoration of the meteor originally hitting Farum Azula (probably mid-invasion), causing it to float and basically be destroyed. Most legendary armaments aren't granted that title due to strength, but rather a special event that they represent.

If you look at the back of the crucible knight armor set, it also has the two snakes embroidered on the cloth part. Also if you pay attention to the flame in Mesmer's hand it starts out as black, then it goes to red, and finally has a golden glow within the center of the flame, similar to how the crucible knights armor is mentioned as being gold with a reddish tint, almost as if Mesmer has his own type of special flame, like a crucible flame. His flame seems as if it is fueled and burning at around the golden energy that other Demigods of the golden order, mainly Marika, Radagon, Godwyn, Morgot and Miquella are known to wield

Watched yet again, more random observations: Messmer's spell when we first see him looks like a fiery/black growing branching sapling tree in his hand. It looks like a dark version of Melina's Erdtree spell as it is 'growing'. It is more clear as a branching pattern rather than thorns when adjusting contrast in image editing. In the top left corner of the screen in the Wicker Man scene, the tree there left has a branching pattern very similar to the spell. Behind Messmer appears to be his throne and behind that a Marika statue. The rider on the downtrodden Leonard-type horse in the swamp has missing feet, just as Radahn did. Ranni's moon seems to be prevalent, with clear shots of its 'rune'. There is imagery of augers as a decorative theme in the scene with the throwing daggers - some sort of pot-stand sculptures with what look like helical blades, and tall thin 'tower' buildings in the background that have similar motifs. Two uses besides lava-siphon that struck me - as digging tools in very tough terrain (like mines), and to dig holes in which to plant saplings. The details packed in this trailer are insane.

We also know the item is linked directly to Miquella through its description, which reveals that Miquella has the ability to compel affection, or love. Not sure if it's been mentioned, but the spear encircled by twisting snakes in the "main" sigil from the box art make me think of Caduceus, the staff of Hermes, which is a symbol of healing. This new sigil is also evocative of some (older) depictions of Caduceus. The staff Caduceus also had the power to make anyone fall asleep, or wake them up. The prevalence of St. Trina's lilies in the same trailer might be some kind of reference though that's probably a big reach. This coupled by Miyazaki's (translated) comment that Messmer was a "heroic" figure (in the vein of Radahn and Malenia etc) makes me wonder at his motives, or at least how Messmer himself views his actions (as "healing"). If he was really the first burner of the Erdtree, we know in fact that he was right, and we later do the same ourselves in order to set the Lands Between right (or not).

Hi, Theory 1 : the tree in the lands of shadows is the original "crucible" great-tree, the one which Melina burnt when she had a body. The GW erdtree grew above it, and it's the erdtree's light that we see above the veils. The veil was placed to hide the fact the original tree was still there, and Messmer is there to keep the lands of shadow in their current hidden state. Theory 1bis : Messmer is the one who burnt the tree with the help of Melina back then. Possibly Melina's twin brother, which would explain that when Messmer was erased from history books, Melina got the same treatment. Theory 2 : the tree in the lands of shadows is the erdtree's "evil twin". Marika grew both in the lands of shadows - a distant isle - and took only the "light" tree in the lands between, leaving a light-eating tree in that island. Theory 2bis : Miquella could not reincarnate in the lands between, due to the fact the rune of rebirth is in the hands of Rennala, and not on the GW-elden-ring. His soul reached the shadow-tree so he could reincarnate under the rules of a shadow-elden-ring. Theory 3 : moving the stars allows to travel in a parallel dimension - and Radhan blocked this so far. The lands of shadow was ruled by GW/Marika until they moved by dimension breach, so the background lore is absolutely not related. The "veil" in the sky is in fact trails left by the dimension breach.

I might be crazy but im pretty sure both mesmers snakes and the snake sigil both have wings. Its pretty much the same snakes too since the symbol only has one wing on eitger snake, which matches mesmers snake wings being asymetric

I think the depiction on the shield of the sun realm is the building after Godrick arena, the one where you cannot wield your weapon and has the throne. Looking from the arena you can see it has the big rounded central tower, the two side towers and the door with the triangle top as well.

I always thought of the Sun Realm Shield as a reference to Dark Souls.

the area with the lion statues is probably the one where you fight the lion dance creature as a major boss, since the trees are looking similar

The sigil at 1:40 definitely gave me Crucible knot talisman vibes. Concerning the crucible imagery with lions and the dancer puppet we'll fight: I'm starting to think that the Beast Lord that Godfrey defeated was Serosh, whose soul he then grafted onto his own in order to become kinglier. Sort of a subversion of the expectation that a human would be more civilized than a beast. Or that the civilization that came before the more "advanced" one of the Golden Order was less developed. In fact, the animalistic Horah Loux needed the Beast Regent Serosh, who helped lead the previous Crucible civilization, to calm his feral behavior.

I think we're going to get a 5th Talisman Pouch in the DLC. Miyazaki said we were going to get a new equipment slot. If we also get a 5th Talisman Pouch the UI on our equipment tab will be a neat 5X6 instead of a janky combination of 4X5 and 2X4.

Just a few things that have jumped out at me on my latest play through that seem like they could be connected to the dlc setting. In Jarburg, when talking to Jar Bairn, he quotes his Uncle Alexander, saying, "my home is of the past. And the past, as they say, is a different country." Seems a little too on the nose to me. I also noticed one of the spirit nobles that give flavor texts says something interesting. In the Weeping Peninsula, outside the church of pilgrimage, one of them is talking about the mausoleums, Marika, and the demigods inside and says something to the effect of, "he is your unwanted child" perhaps referencing Messmer

It's a womb. The symbol at the bottom is a womb. EDIT: Honestly, I gotta hand it to you, Zio. You've become my top Elden Ring creator! Your output is consistent, frequent and ALWAYS high quality, and you never publish a video with nothing new to say.

That impaled man was likely impaled by Messmer. I don't think he's a boss, somebody else will be the boss in that room

Oh Mesmer is definitely having a phase where he turns into a dragon. We gotta see what happens when a demigod turns into one, since non demigods just turn into wyrms

Would be cool if Eleonora was from the same dragon faction as Messmer, considering she wears the drake knight armor and uses dragon incantations ! (I realize this might be a stretch)

Dude in vati's new video he explains the blind can see things others can. Like mogh found the mother of truth (forgot the other name) because his horn impaled his eye. Mesmer also only has one eye. Has he found a new god? What did he see?

When you mesmerize someone you charm them, both Trina and Mikala are known to charm. Maybe through blasphemy Mesmer was born a child of Mikala and Saint Trina.

It would make sense with the land of shadow being the seat of the sun. What does a sprout need to begin its growth process? Sun. Perhaps Marika had the erdtree here until it grew past adolescence.
@Soulsinquisitive6 ай бұрын
The mention of "...the Seat of the Sun..." could also be a play on words as well it's more literal meaning as you explained. I believe it may also be a hint at Messmer and his rule in the Land is Shadow with it referring to this castle as the place in which he reigns.

I hate how everyone overlooks the only other serpent character, Rykard, WHO had a vision of the future of a serpent devouring the world. Messmer could very well be that serpent given all that we’ve seen. Just saying.

First i wanted to see wtf Shadow of the Erdtree actually was, now that I see it’s an actual place I realized that Elden Ring does weird things with the flow of time Messmer could be in the past
