yay i have been waiting for this one. please react to the 13ty floor elevators “you’re gonna miss me” it is another 60s psychedelic band. it is a very gassy song. the one that says 1966 on it. it look like it is live from the thumbnail. the scenery of the video adds a lot to the song and gives you an idea of just how strange but amazing the 69s were

This song is on The Easy Rider soundtrack album, as is Time has Come Today. I think that you would have liked Thunderclap Newman Something’s in the Air better. Nights in White Satin is also on it (but the short version). So many great tunes on that album.

I used to do a lot of drugs in the 70s, and started weed in '68. But I feel like I'm trippin' whenever I hear this song, whether I really am or not. Btw- this song was one of the first psychedelic rock songs to hit the radio. The Beatles were just starting the trend around that time. The Yardbirds joined in, and a few others. The Castaways.

This is purely a psychedelic rock song. It describes a dream-like state, one that could be natural or chemically induced, and it does it with the psych rock styling. Listening to it, I *feel* Mary Quant, young Brits in cool clothes, face painting and Volkswagon buses. (I was 6 years old when this came out, but it makes me remember these things.)

Also. To be honest. You can actually listen to a psychedelic song while you are sober. You can understand the experience of an acid trip while listening to a psych song sober. But, you have to drop acid if you really want to enjoy it. By the way. The acid effect last from 3 to 8 hours.

I was a teenager in the 60s. The typical thought process was that you needed to be high to really appreciate this style of music. I don't think so. There were people I knew who said that. I'm guessing there were songs that were really out there and you had to be high because if you weren't they sounded like crap. Psychedelic or what ever. Good is good no matter what your mental state is.

Good music sounds good regardless of the psychedelic condition of the listerner, but relaxed music can sooth hyperactivated senses at times. Have you listened to "Box of Rain" by the Grateful Dead yet? That's from 1970. Quite a lot of psychedelic music has a slower tempo than this Electric Prunes classic. "Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow" by Strawberry Alarm Clock is a trip. That's from 1967. Donovan "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" holds up very well, flower power pop intact. That's from 1967. "You Showed Me" by The Turtles aspires to glide your ears down a lazy river of harmony. That's from 1968. "Who Knows Where The Time Goes?" by Fairport Convention might bring tears to your eyes. Sandy Denny has one of the purest singing voices you'll ever hear. That's from 1969. "Diana In The Autumn Wind" by The National Gallery is an odd duck that splits in two and then rejoins itself in flight. That's also from 1969. And then there is The Yardbirds "Heart Full Of Soul" from 1965, and The Byrds "Eight Miles High" from 1966, and The Beatles "Tomorrow Never Knows" from 1966, and The Beach Boys "Good Vibrations" also from 1966. Chances are greater that you've already heard those songs. To dive deeper still, Fleetwood Mac "The Green Manalishi" gives shape to a bad trip. That's from 1969. Blue Cheer "Peace Of Mind" rocks years ahead of time. That's also from 1969. Fever Tree "San Francisco Girls" brings the harpsichord and simulated sitars back to the stereotype. That's from 1968. Gandalf "Hang On To A Dream" makes the hanging easy. That's from 1968. Vanilla Fudge "You Keep Me Hangin' On" turns Motown around sideways then brings it in for a smooth landing. That's from 1967. Status Quo "Pictures of Matchstick Men" is a goovy little tune from 1968 that Camper van Beethoven scored a hit with in 1989. And for kicks check out The Dukes of Stratosphear "25 O'Clock" from 1985.

Thanks for this classic oldie but goodie. We used to think he was saying "I had too much to "Drink" last night, but as you know from the title, it's "I had too much to Dream last night." "Time has come today" by The Chambers Bros. is a great old classic 60s psychedelic hit from 1966 or 67 I think. Please react to it. ( Play the long version if you do it, otherwise forget it.)
@daveman_50

This was REALLY early psychedelic. It was released in Nov. 1966 and was a hit in Jan/Feb 1967. By comparison, Iron Butterfly’s “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” made the charts in the summer of 1968. For anything earlier in this genre, you might think of parts of the Beatles' Revolver album, and "Rain", or the Yardbirds' "Shapes of Things" (Jeff Beck), which were all in 1966. So I give the Electric Prunes a lot of credit. A great song.

Can you believe that this was considered too long of hair? This came out while I was in high school and in the 60's we mean't High school. You had to at least done the deed once to have the experience. I B.S. my way though three years of high school, just from hearing other people talk about it and practicing in the mirror to learn to keep my eyes looking like I was falling asleep. I also learned to use soap in the eyes to get them red. However by the end of my junior year I got into it pretty good and what I found out was nobody believed my claims to have been doing drugs those times I faked it. I was so bad that last year I was almost sent home for good because of behavior problems. I managed to graduate with a 1.7 gpa. My family was proud. I was involved with pharmaceuticals heavily for about 3 years then no more until my chronic pain issues forced me to be tied to these things. Well I guess that's enough personal problems. See you on the next great reaction.

Listening to Jimi Hendricks "Are You Experienced" while tripping was a revelation to me. The whole construction of the song was different than what you normally hear. It was like opening a door and discovering what he really, truly sounded like. You could finally answer the question... are you experienced? You got what he was saying. His genius was that the songs were written and could be heard two different ways simultaneously, depending on where you were at. A rare, rare talent. Very few performing psychedelic rock could pull it off. Although not psychedelic rock, you might really enjoy "What About Me" by Quicksilver Messenger Service.

Yes you can listen to psychedelic music sober( although I did...yes!) after all when you love music this much, isn't music itself akin to being in a euphoric state, I.E. all by itself it is a drug. It sure as hell makes me feel good.

Great song by the Electric Prunes (I'm old enough to remember when it came out!). The first psychedelic song has to be "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys, right? Brian Wilson's vision in "Pet Sounds" made it such a ground breaker in so many ways.
