The Elephant in The Room: Addressing the Unaddressed

This is a lecture delivered by Imam Shadeed Muhammad addressing some of the current dysfunction in many of the African American Islamic Communities. During his address, he highlighted the information overload that has contributed to much of the confusion among Muslims; he highlighted incidents of murder, violence and sexual abuse of Muslim children which tends to go unaddressed as well as the need for active leadership among Imams, preachers, teachers and student of knowledge.

As a new muslim these are the issues I have questions about and all i hear is dont go here. Dont do that and inside I often wonder why so much hate there are muslims from different countries who dont even want to greet because were from diffrent places. So many questions i have and my children have and i just dont know where to turn.there are so many people who are not muslims have this sick and twisted veiw of muslims because of this behavior.

Subscribe to their channel and they have recently covered on previous episodes social issues such as racism and colorism in the ummah, amongst others, but this one about abuse going on was the realest imho. As’salaamu Alaikum Dear Brother.. hang in there. There is going to always be someone who trolls lecturers postings just to put inciting comments to stir people up. I have ones like that who do that as well. Your lectures are needed. So many have learned things incorrectly. It’s not their fault really. We trust our friends and family. Is most difficult to learn correct truths. You want to know the very first thing I learned as a Muslim.. that some lie. It was done on purpose. I love learning. It drives me. I have so many that come to me for answers. I do not like to guess. If I’m not sure or don’t know.. I tell them that I will look into it and that I’ll get back with an answer plus proof if needed. All in all.. Muslims are just peoples. You are finding out that there is not one way that is set to all Muslims. Sects. There are too many different ways being taught and learnt. There is not one correct way. For instance.. the translation of the Quran to English. Many different translations exist. Same is with the Salat words in English. It’s confusing. For one to sort through all of that and come out of it unscathed. It needs to be standardized. Islam is supposed to be learned easily. It’s not that way if you have to learn it on your own. I am forced to learn on my own. What I learn.. I pass on. I make sure of what I say is truth. Sooo.. Brother.. keep doing you. You are doing wonderful work. Everyone learns at their own speed. I will make Du’a for you and your family. Allah knows best ijs

I pray Allah (SWT) forgives us or short comings. Heal our communities and guide us to follow Qur'an and Sunnah correctly with intellect and discernment not just blind following Sheikh Fulan. I pray we as a community learn to act on what we know and stop absorbing information without putting it into action. None of us are perfect but we need to progress our character so that we are our best selves and our families can be their best selves. Society cannot thrive if communities are disorderly and communities cannot be orderly if families are dysfunctional! We have much growing to do. I pray Allah puts us on the right path, and allows us to walk upon it. May Allah have mercy on the victims and the families that are suffering abuses and these murders. I know this is old but I wanted to say the portion where you’re talking about the book you translated and someone stating it’s bidah sounds like an outside job that appears internal. What I mean by that is I truly believe these non educated “scholars” are really from outside of the communities they say they come from. I also believe that their financial backing comes from people outside of the communities this dysfunction is spread in; I’m from the suburbs and always attended a suburban masjid in a solid middle class town. I never EVER heard the foolishness that you’re talking about until I went to an inner city masjid once. The masjid I went to discussed things like the importance and reasoning behind wudu or how to islamically parent; these inner city masajid seem to feed off of intricacies that don’t affect the daily life of those they’re speaking to. The result is people who lack critical thinking skills spreading whatever they are spreading (because it’s not Islam from what I can see) and people either adopting that same stringent, rigid mentality to accommodate their lack of control of everything else around them (like poverty, gang violence, etc) OR they’re running as far away as possible. It’s very sad.

Allah SWT did NOT create us to be the same nor does He SWT want us to be all the same as long as we follow Qur'an & Sunnah. One of The rapes were when a whole Masjid sent one of their prominent ikhwaan to Egypt to flee persecution for having sex with a minor. This has to stop. And he exposed the placating going on. What? You don’t understand brother. If one wears a thobe to emulate the prophet ﷺ than it’s Considered worship (mubah) which means you will be rewarded. From hukm Shari’a it falls under mubah zaahid according to the four imaams that’s why I wear qamees or thobes. But I’m not talking about that in this case I’m talking about my culture which you’re not from because you clearly can’t understand but I’m not going back and forth with you besides it’s Ramadan.
