Carter wanted to report to the radio frequency and asked Kat “can the covenant trace it to us?” To which Kat replied “I could”. Regardless Carter took the call and from my understanding because of that the covenant traced it back to their location, thus how the phantom with the Field Marshall sniper found them and assassinated Kat.

The field marshal was killed by noble-6 right before the onager. The zealots and him were from the group known as the Devoted Sentries; which was a part of a larger chapter of zealots. One of his zealots killed emile, not him. It is very likely that hes the same field marshal from winter contingency, and the one that shot kat because such a high ranking elite would not be very common. So essentially, he is responsible for the deaths of 2-3 members of Noble. (6 died because Emile got killed by his zealots so 6 had to stay behind). The Field Marshal is also very important because he signifies Carter's mistake that haunts Noble Team for the rest of the battle. Carter told Emile not to chase the field marshal, he got away, and eventually came back with more zealots and killed half of Noble Team. IMO he was after Noble Team for the data they got from Dr. Lazlo's body. He probably wasn't able to get anything out of Lazlo before Noble arrived. It was clearly very important, why else would he go down there personally to kill a scientist. When he realized Noble had gotten the research data, he decided to hunt down Noble. His first target was Kat since she took the data module. It was clearly a well planned assassination. Once they got the Cortana fragment he went straight after the Onager and Emile to ensure the Autumn didn't escape Reach with the data. He was after the data. The elite on screen during noble 6's death (who pulls out a sword and watches the Zealot and ultra kill 6) is also confirmed to be a field marshal. Its kinda confusing, there were 2 field marshals present during the battle of reach. The first was a part of the Fleet of Valiant Prudence led by supreme commander rho barutamee. The 2nd was likely from one of the massive fleets that came later, perhaps he may have even been from supreme commander Thel Vadamee's Fleet of Particular Justice. Either way, I believe that there is 1 Field Marshal per fleet. Since the battle at it's height had multiple fleets come to reach, multiple Field Marshals being present just shows how massive the covenant invasion was. Field Marshals are ground commanders for an entire planetary assault and only answer to their fleet's Supreme Commander.

Field masters are typically golden in color, so the generals in reach were either Ship Masters or Field masters, as well as most of the zealots in Halo CE and 2. Field Marshals are much higher up in the chain of command than Field masters. Field Masters command a battalion of maybe 1000+ troops. Whereas Field Marshals have complete ground authority of planetary invasions. Meaning a Field Marshal has command over every field master in a battle. Interestingly enough, despite unlocking the general armor at a higher rank than the Zealot armor in reach, Generals answer to Zealots.

Theory*. I personally believe that the field marshal, who is seen shooting Kat was in the beginning and is the field marshal at the end. I think that the Covenant zealots were almost like a reflection of the Covenants version of Noble team. Kat’s the intelligence spartan of Noble Team, the open channel communications with the Colonel probably alerted the Covenant of Noble Teams presence. I think he (the field marshal) is a special position, commanding the Red zealots. Isn’t it at all suspicious how they didn’t change any of the zealots of field marshals seen. There are ‘white’ field marshals hidden in the missions but he’s consistently in it like a special elite squad who maybe carry out HVT missions. Likely leading to the death of Kat and Emile. His position is likely completely secretive, so likely he wouldn’t be promoted or noted in history. The way those assassinations are carried out and the way the Covenants Zealots were always placed at extremely crucial locations likely made their missions absolutely limited if not completely secretive. Just my thoughts, what do you think?

ALSO the reason he didn't just glass Noble team is Either because he saw them along the way as he was flying away and didn't have the time or clearance to reorder the glassing fast enough , the 2nd reason he didn't glass them is Because HONOR

Canonically during the cutscene when the covenant ships appeared and emitted radiation. This In turn killed noble teams shields. An energy blast or radiological blast is kind of like an emp technically it is, I don’t believe that there was any malice behind kats assassination and that the Sangheili field Marshall had the window to fire so he shot kat. A way to explain why he possibly didn’t shoot the rest of noble was due to possibly being caught off guard by there sudden presence and didn’t have enough time to react to carter Emile and jun.

The reason no elites cam out of that phantom, is because of noble six, who is considered “hyper lethal”... he was able to take down 5 zealots and 1 field marshal because of his extreme combat skills, the field marshal knew this and taking on 3 other spartans was not a good idea considering his rank the elite is very good at predicting and making decisions, which lead to the attack on sword base, the attack on new Alexandria and the attack on the pillar of autumn. The reason this elite killed only 1 spartan at a time is because he was being cautious. Making sure he didn’t underestimate any of the Spartans in noble team... also the elite that killed Emile was a zealot

It’s actually amazing how fast the Elite was able to target Kat and able to be so precise. It looked like he was at an angle and it does give him some room but to be able to counter the Phantoms bobbing and the pressure of shooing a Spartan is unbelievable. The rifle had a lot to do with the kill but it’s the being using it that makes it crazy. He had like 2.5 seconds of a window and he got her in less then 1 I bet he got some serious p***y once he got back

This video is actually not wrong but only half right. Remember, The only members of Noble team not actually killed by Zealots is actually Jun and Jorge. Kat was killed by one. Carter was killed by one. Emile was killed by one and 6 was killed by one.

According to Halo Reach lore, there were only 2 Field Marshals on Reach, Eled Nadatee', who became a member of the Swords of Sangheilios and took part in the events of Halo 3, and another unnamed one, whom was killed on Reach by Noble 6. I've seen some speculation that Eled was the one who killed Kat, but I'm not entirely sure.

Brutes disgust me, maybe they are more likable in halo wars 2? I didn't play it minus the demo. But besides that they are portrayed as dumb animals that rely on brute strength. No intelligence. Halo 3 and odst really made me hate brutes. Seeing the horror of brutes invading earth, fuck that. It would be terrifying. They are mindless killers. Elites are more or less like us. Albeit physically stronger. But they have a "human" side. They aren't monsters. They were honorable beings who fought for what they thought was right, and were betrayed for doing so by the ones that lead them. Brutes killed for fun. Its really hard for me to see why you would like the brutes over elites, not judging tho.

The REAL conspiracy here is that Noble team knew by this point in the game to NEVER let Kat drive a vehicle. Thus, her usefulness to the Covenant as an asset was at an end. They were just tying up loose ends. ;)

In the end scene, where Noble 6 is killed, the elite holding the full energy sword is left handed. At 3:46 in the video, it shows the same elite as the one in the end scene. They have the same armor or rank, they are both left handed with a sword or grenade. This is who I believe was picking every member of Noble Team.

Kat’s helmet has a bigger area on the back of her head and neck where there’s no actual armor and it’s just open area that allows for a higher likelihood of actually dealing a killing blow, while Noble Six on the other hand could be wearing any helmet he wanted to and also Kat was closer and Six was turned around and about to start shooting at the Elite before he could get a shot on him

Shielding was off due to the Armor being incomplete. It takes a minute for the Shields to activate as stated in The Fall of Reach Novel. As per how they knew they were there. The Radio was most likely hacked . Carter asked if the comms could be traced , due to it being unsecure. I believe that since they are indeed hunter killer squads , they would have been tracking Noble team

I imagine Kat's shield was down and recharging as she was the last Spartan to put her helmet on. Also the Elite Field Marshal at the very end of the game, guarding the mac gun IS the same exact Field Marshal that assassinated Kat. The ones that killed Emile were Zealots under the Field Marshal's command. This is actually all information you can find on the wiki itself. The Field Marshal from the beginning of the game, to Kat's death, to Emile's death is the same character, and you eventually kill him as the final Elite in the game (before Lone Wolf).

Kats helmet was knocked off explaining why the glassing took down her shields. They didn't recharge before the Elite shot her since she had to put it back on and it was so soon after the fact. Maybe the helmets connection was damaged and again she payed little thought to the gravity of that weakness.

As for the shielding point, I like to think that a full-body seal is required for a Spartan's shields to be active. Since Kat had her helmet off in the elevator, and had only just put it on before leaving said elevator, her shields hadn't reactivated yet. Like you said, the shields crackle. Not only when going down, but also when booting back up. Between her replacing her helmet and her being shot, her shields didn't crackle once, and they didn't crackle when the glassing started, since her helmet was already off.. So the round went through the armour of her helmet uninterrupted, because her armour had been in the process of rebooting her shields after regaining a full vacuum seal. That's my theory, anyway.
