My name is Lucy, I'm a Dutchwoman here to offer an alternative approach to beauty.
On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies, tv shows or history and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!
I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my little passion project.
You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and home & interior videos.
Enjoy browsing!
Love,
Lucy

Silvousplaits did this one as well and she suggested that the tail end could have come loose and was meant to be wrapped completely like a bun so there is that option to for finishing the ends if one desired. I really like that you wanted to mention the possibilities of finding hairstyles from actual preserved bodies found in the world. It is quite fascinating. My hair isn't quite long enough to do this one yet, but I'm getting there!

This is exactly what I was thinking, the hair probably came loose after her death. But it's good to have options for different ways of styling it!

Yeah, I remember trying it a few years ago. It was really easy and secure (once you wrap it into a bun and use a couple Bobby pins). I definitely think the bog body had her hair in a complete bun originally; it's more practical.

I used this one as a fairly migraine-friendly hairstyle before I went short-short with my hair. From the second you can do one loop, you can just bobby pin the ends under the bun and, if my coworkers are to be believed, fake a whole lot of length.

Ooh, you might at some point do Skrydstruppigen (The Skrydstrup Girl, 1300 B.C.). She isn’t a bog body but she does have a very distinct hairstyle with the bulk of her hair on top of her head held in place with a hair net and tied/decorated with thick woollen string. That would be interesting to see you recreate.

You could tie the braid with a string of yarn or leather, that would still be authentic. They used these things for their clothing.

They even used oils and fats to secure the hair. They had trade of those coming from Spain

When I woke up today, I had no idea that I would spend part of my morning reading about bog bodies. I didn't know about it and I'm truly fascinated. How can it be, that a body can be conserved for these many years... Absolutely amazing. I loved this video, thank you!

Absolutely fascinating! I remember watching a series called 'mummies alive' which featured an Irish bog body - it was the first time I'd heard of them, they're so interesting. Thank you for sharing this hairstyle 😊 My hair from root to tip is around 30" so definitely going to try this! Thinking I might try wrapping the braid round completely until it forms a bun to give it a modern everyday-wearable twist 😀

How fascinating! Are they sure this was the actual hairstyle it was meant to be or did the little braid escape over time and was actually meant to be tucked under the braid again to create Some sort of updo rather then the it just hanging out like that? I’m learning to be a hairdresser and this kind of reminds me of how an updo is Made but the little tail hanging out in the end is the only off part for me so I’m curious

Thanks for posting this! I've done this a couple of times now and it's quickly become my favourite hairstyle. My hair is very heavy so buns often pull my scalp and won't hold but with this style I have had no issues although my hair isn't quite long enough and it's a bit too thick too, but it definitely helps to have like day 4 hair. I decided to tug the end with a bobby pin so that it is a complete bun and it honestly looks so cute and neat. I also love the feeling of wearing the same style as my ancestors probably did so long ago. So thanks again!

I have calf length hair and I did this, except I kept wrapping the braid around and tucked the end under. It was super comfortable and easy. I put an ornamental wooden hair stick in just to make sure the braid end didn't come untucked. Normally I need a lot of pins to keep my bun in place but I played volleyball and it stayed put.

I tried to recreate this hairstyle in the past. I have about the same hair length as she has but my hair is thicker which made me run into problems as soon as I tried to wrap the braid. It was hard to loop the braid through and I couldn't do so more often than one time because there just was no space for the hair to go. Also, it wouldn't stay up. I figured this would be usefull to know for anybody with long, thick hair who wishes to recreate the style. :)

Try braiding the first part down further, that should create an actual loop once you add in the second part of the hair. I usually braid the first part down to my neck not just to the middle of my head. Hope that might help because this hairstyle is amazing.

I've seen the bog bodies in Dublin as well. It is a fascinating topic in Irish literature and there are whole books about the bogs (not only the bodies but the landscape itself) in connection to Irish psyche and history. In fact, there is at least one literary genre based on bogs called bog gothic.

When wrapping the braid around the second time it may hold better if it is tucked under the first loop. The weight of the first loop should keep the second one in place.

I sometimes braid my hair, until it is nearly nothing left open and the braid is really thin. Then I add some water to the tail and "massage" it in. Those braids hold forever, even better than with hairelastics. I wouldn't use pomade or fat, because it can become lose after some time.

Almost all bog bodies were sacrificed. Theyve even found animals ,loot and weapons used as pagan offerings. If you're doing recreations of hairstyles you shouldn't be afraid to show where they come from. It's a disservice to viewers who dont know. Mummies are not offensive. They're windows to our past and a small peak at ancient mankind. Great video nonetheless.

Hi. I know you want to have Lucy show the bodies in the video. But I understand why she wouldn't and agree with her. I've seen bog bodies in real life before, even before I turned ten. And while it's very fascinating for an adult to see these bodies they can be too much for a younger person to see. If you want to see these bodies you can search on Google real quick (shouldn't take more than a few seconds). There are tons of different bog bodies all over Europe, such as Grauballemanden, Auning-kvinden, the Borremose bodies, Tollundmanden and lots more, these are just a few from Denmark. I know you as a viewer wants to have more background to the videos you see, but Lucy is already doing enough by recreating this hairstyle, and she is not responsible for showing the bodies. Glad you enjoyed the video, but look up the pictures yourself xx.
