The Elusive Houston Downtown Tunnel Entrance

Downtown Houston has a massive 7 mile underground tunnel system that most people don’t know exists. One of the main entrances on McKinney and Main is difficult to find. Signs don’t mention it. People standing nearby can’t provide much information. This video shows my attempt to locate it and see if you can actually get into the area after 5 pm.

The only way to access the tunnels are from inside the buildings. I used to enter through the Park Shops but it’s closed now. Another way was through the JP Morgan Chase building or the Allied Bank building

I entered at McKinney and Main, which my video shows. I was looking for an entrance. That’s an entrance. It’s an entrance only for the tunnels.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen that. My usual entrance was from the park shops

Most entrances to the tunnels are inside each building. Fun fact: the City of Houston does not own or operate these tunnels, hence no entrance/exit on the street. Instead, each individual property/building owns and maintains that section of tunnel beneath it. Thus, entrance to their section of tunnel is usually inside.

I know. 600 Milam. Take the elevator down to the tunnel that covers all of downtown

The signs say nothing anywhere. There’s no reason for the city not to mention it at all on any signs.

@@RageTVHTX Yes, because there have never been signs, it’s just impossible for these newer signs to have any information. Impossible. Things must always remain as they are!
