In the towering rain forests along the northern shores of the Pacific, scientists recently discovered a new subspecies of the gray wolf. Unlike its genetic kin anywhere else in the world, this wolf swims, fishes for salmon and roams great distances from island to inlet across both water and rough terrain.

Excellent content. Loved getting to watch a documentary about wildlife that isn't terribly sad, simply science & interesting facts. As well as the Indigenous perspective. Thank you Canadian Geographic! My brief time spent with the coastal wolves here in B.C. has been nothing short of magical. Hoping to get back out and photograph them in the near future!

I think the wolf discovering the microfon (and later the Zodiac) did NOT damage or destroy anything. He knows EVERYTHING in his territory - but has never in his life seen these things and so he cautiously explores the find: what is it - is it a dangerous thing - can I eat it???? That`s all he did. It was "damage" only from our point of view . . Great documentation by the way. Thank you. But please: Forget about the music! The sounds of nature would have been far more appropriate . .

first the mic then the boat: they knew what you were doing and how you got to their island. then dad decided he had had enough of the crew's smell & constant noise. i am curious if they could hear the night vision equipment. that seemed to bring them all in to investigate. the growl was interesting, but i didn't see any hair raised so it might have just been a friendly "hello." wolves growl often while they're playing. i am a bit surprised that dad wanted anything to do with the mic since it probably stunk of the crew. maybe a crew member who owns a dog was holding the mic in his lap for a while and the wolf thought he was just eliminating competition? but then it must've become a game, kind of a tug-of-war... and he won. lol
