There not brothers their father and son. The current empor is the son of the previous empora. Jinshi is the son of the current empor. The babies were swapped remember.

I think it's hinted that they know. By the way, jinshi was talking to the empor about choosing his own path , which implies the empora wants him to succeed him because he's his son and jinshi not wanting to.

The new concubine feels like she really dosn't want to be there but has no other option, she also seems to be somewhat interested in Maomao. 8:10 not that i know of, but my brother isn't actually my son so i wouldn't know what Shinji and the emperor talk abaut
