NMS is a glorious pastiche of tones and inspirations, I think that detail was inspired by Warhammer’s Lizardmen & their spawning pools being able to radically change what lifeforms come out of them

When I first encountered the geks i thought they were friendly but actually some them are really rude making them the actual villains of the game but the only friendly gek I knew was Nappolo on the anomaly. It makes sense that a gek will be offended if you say something spawn related in the game because it makes sense that the geks that are alive don't want feel ashamed of their race.

Even when you start building your base after enough quests in with the Overseer you start to realize that he's cursing you under his breath while requesting favors of you. Almost as if he feels like the roles are wrong and you should be serving him instead as he explores the ends of the universe in your place. The superiority complex with the Gek is so real.

Technically it’s the vy’keen since they can injure you in safe areas for saying something wrong but I don’t know if that can actually kill you

I'm late to this party but you seem to have misinterpreted the first spawns original aspect. They didn't begin as universe conquering. Eugenics yes, but in this situation one must consider the universe they are in. As a primitive race the first spawn would remove the weak from the spawning pools. We can debate the morality of that but what happened in universe is that the sentinels responded to this act with a genocide of a planet, if I read some of the boundary failures correctly, and the atlas considered this one of the first signs that it was dying as the simulation was broken at that point. The gek were killing off their weak and the Aeron responded by wiping out the planet. From here the gek swore vengeance and became bent on universe domination and after the vykeen pushed back the sentinels the gek took the opportunity to enslave korvax and melt down the planet for resourses in defiance of the sentinels. It's alluded to in the Artemis quest that it was all a symptom of the atlas breaking down and the korvax altering their DNA was just like altering computer code but the code was broken from the get go. That being said, the most intriguing comment in this entire game comes from the overseer who says your son signed the contract. The implications of this are pretty wild when you think about it.
