Honestly, Disney needs to rein in the vloggers anyway. For example, Brian Hull takes up valuable space in the meet and greet lines just to get shots for his online KZbin show, which he alone profits from. The actors have no choice but to go along with it, even though they aren't getting compensated for their screen appearance, and their contract doesn't cover screen appearances. They also are not credited for their performances. That kind of crap has to end. Personally, I think Disney should just pick a few of the best vloggers, travel planners, etc and create some kind of "press pass" for those chosen few. Then they can cancel those passes at any time if those people abuse their privileges.

@hillstones3 жыл бұрын
It was the right thing to do. The current AP program was broken. When the parks re-open at limited capacity and reservations only, you would have 1.5M passholders expecting to get into the park, or max out reservations constantly. That would be a disaster. Also, Signature and Signature Plus passes would effectively be reduced to the 'Flex' pass. We had Signature Plus passes (at $1,399 each), and went last year in December during the 'two-week' blackout period for all other passes, and we could not get into Disneyland because the park hit max capacity after a few hours and the gates were closed. So those passes were ineffective because lower passholders bought regular tickets to get into the park. When Disney started the monthly payment program for the passes, it caused a surge of new passholders, so the parks were always crowded. We let our passes expire last January due to the planned 3 month refurbs of rides, but then COVID hit. Disney will announce a new program once they can resume normal park capacity, probably a subscription program with different levels of features (like what Magic Mountain does).

I'm pretty sure Walt Disney didn't have middle-aged nerds in mind when he almost bankrupted himself building the place. Along with Magic Mountain, the concept of issuing annual passes was a ploy to generate income without having to actually spend any additional money. Unfortunately, what did happen was the proliferation of park zombies taking up space and doing things they should be doing at the local park or at home. Being old enough to remember the good old days, when you could go to these parks in the middle of the week and expect minimal crowds, people now have to deal with hoards of teenagers, middle aged idiots staring at their iphones, the smell of Depends, geriatric path walkers, etc,. These places were designed to be visited by a family, once a year. If you're so bored with your life you need to go look at Goofy, Donald, Mickey and Minnie three times a month, I suggest you spend your money on some visits to your psychiatrist or maybe a subscription to the Disney Channel.

The SoCal was an insanely cheap pass, and basically was oversold. My understanding was people were renewing them at a very high rate (so they weren't falling off at the rate Disney wanted). @Kevster223 жыл бұрын
Actually no, Disney would prefer passes especially with Monthly payments as it is more predictable steady income, also they make most of their money not from ticket sales but inside the park from food, merchandise and parking so passes give them more profit as not only is they pay upfront or monthly AP holders visit the parks more often and often end up buying expensive limited edition Merchandise. The only reason Disneyland decided to sunset the AP program is due to the extremely limited capacity. One time a Castmember once told me that APs could fill both parks to capacity over 10 times if they all came at the same time. If it wasn't for Covid and the restrictions on capacity creating demand and making supply(capacity) extremely limited they never would have wanted to end the program as it was more profitable in the long term than ticket sales and tourists, and again much more predictable as APs likely renewed every year and they can have idea in advance how much they will make.
@sccarguy82423 жыл бұрын
@@Kevster22 I don’t doubt a word you said, however that capacity cap changes the rules. A person paying $100’ish per person per day, plus food, photos and gifts is probably more profitable when you can’t be at it near 100%... I’m sure there is a tipping point and I’m sure Disney knows exactly what that is. Those folks know how to separate people from their money in the most efficient way possible. Lol

I agree. I live in Illinois and you still can't go in any business without a mask on and I often wonder, "don't people get sick of this requirement?" and is it always going to be like this? That should have been dropped the day all the hospitals nationwide got the vaccine, but it wasn't dropped and I see in indication that it ever will go back to normal. It's hard to breath with that on and it is hard to hear what people say when they talk. Part of communicating is being able to see someone's mouth move and hear what they say.

@richardludwig36733 жыл бұрын
@@FiveElements00 It’s not just hospitals, the vaccine needs to be available to everyone - and that’s going to take time. It won’t be four years, but it will probably extend into the summer. The healthcare frontline workers are getting the vaccine right now, but it’s just starting to get to non-frontline healthcare workers.

@@richardludwig3673 I see but the thing is, the virus is called "covid 19" (starting in year 2019) and here it is the year 2021. It seems like people are trying the extend this crisis out as long as possible. They said the SARS virus in 2013 was the same thing as this and no one shut down or had this level of over-reacting.

Maybe it is a hint Adam to hit up new adventures. To be honest and a bit blunt with the up most respect to you. I love your videos. I don't think there is a video I have not seen of yours. However the amount of WDW videos everyone is doing these days are burning some of us out. I am only speaking of my friends and family that travel with you Adam. I am not at all speaking for everyone. Last night I could not sleep so I started to binge watch your route 66 venture for the 3rd time lol. I also see that Jacob has decided to do a Dixie highway adventure using some of your tactics from back in the day. It was always fun watching you and Jacob together. Your last few videos around the town you now reside at in Fl have been great. Again i can't speak for everyone but sometimes I feel like you were made to make videos of small town USA. I will take your travel videos over anyone's including The Travel station.

I’ve been over Disney videos for the past six months. The parks are not the same, and watching the same people do the same things day after day, pretending they are, is boring. When the parks get back to “normal”, I might come back, but I’ll be too busy planning my next vacation (have already cancelled 4 in the past 12 months).

I had a feeling that this was going to happen since Tokyo Disneyland got rid of theirs(It’s the only other Disney Park with a lot of locals).
@KayIsJustPeachy3 жыл бұрын
True. WDW does get a lot of locals too but because of the sheer size of the parks/resort it's easier not to notice them.
@Wig43 жыл бұрын
@@KayIsJustPeachy WDW , lots of 'locals' ? That's very limited. In Tokyo, the park is an "almost inner-city park". Railway and underground stations, a short public transport from most locations within the city. Young people used the AP there, not so much for the attractions, but to gather up, THERE. Night-time club atmosphere. Date in the park. Get parties in the park. MARRIAGES in the park (Disney Sea is extremely specialised in weddings) .............. But, remember : Disneyland/sea Tokyo is NOT a Disney property, It's 100% Japanese (Oriental Land Co) and all operations, sales programs, public relations... are 100% independent from Disney co. Being 'the best parks' has never withhold them to offer considerable LOWER entrance prices then the American parks. (Even when considering, Tokyo in average is more expensive...)

My first trip to Disneyland was 1969. One of my first memories of childhood and I even remember my mom had me on the kid leash. We would go annually in the mid 70s and 80s and it was always fun and memorable. Into the late 90s and early 2000s what started to change were the crowds. Those early days you could really enjoy the park. The lines for rides were painfully long but the rest of the park wasn’t very crowded. Later things started getting nuts and people were packed in like sardines everywhere and let’s admit that massive crowds just takes away from the experience. Dodging the myriad of strollers and elbow to elbow people just sucks. I blame annual passes and the locals who abuse of them. It sucks that people feel slighted but thinning the crowds for those who travel there for vacation matters. The locals who think they are the lifeblood of the park are wrong. They are the reason the park was busting at the seams and took the “magic” from the Disneyland experience. They could show up anytime they want and did while making weekends a living hell. So boo fucking hoo. Maybe the park can become a more enjoyable experience for everyone instead of having to fight through the local masses who show up because they want to get a fucking churro and wear their Disney merch like a badge of entitlement. Thank you Disney for stopping the abuse

It’ll come back in some form. Even the email they sent about it said as much. Odds are this is to keep the park emptier when they eventually reopen with restrictions so they can have more single or multiple day ticket holders giving them money to get in. They’ll bring it back after several months with an inevitable price hike. Having said that.. super bummed. Really been looking forward to going back when this is over but single day ticket prices are kinda ridiculous for the number of times I go when I'm in the LA area.

Could agree more, Adam, it is a thing! We lived in Newport Beach, and as Premier AP holders, we would even visit Disneyland just for lunch (that was before Downtown Disney). Sounds decadent, but that was the advantage of AP ownership, never felt compelled to stay all day, or even ride as locals. Thanks for an another introspective video, always appreciate your hard work. Cheers!

15:26 that’s the truth!!! It’s why I like YT so much, get to watch so many others have the same passion for things I like and being good people. I really wanted to get that premier passport last year ... I hope it returns soon. I only had 1 Disney AP in my life and that was the year of WDWs 25th anniversary (1997). I had the premium AP which included everything with no blackouts. I used to go almost daily to the parks with my video camera and film. I remember so many times in Oct of 1998 where most of the rides were walk on and FP didn’t exist.

Agreed when "things return to Normal" Annual Passes will return. Annual Passes are part of the DL culture of SoCal. I have friends who would go to DL after work just for dinner, or the kids got a great test score, or whatever. Want some Dole Whip just head to the DL, get to the Park and get some Currro's. Some of my friends got them for Christmas presents every year from their Grandparents. It's a SoCal tradition.
